Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Won't be long before someone comes along to complain about how hard a time poor SF reps are given on the show.

That guy re the hash was a complete joke, i was caught with 2.5kg of hash..............eh eh it was personal consumption.

I've heard of stocking up on baked beans, shampoo or toliet roll but 5.5 pounds of hash:rolleyes:

SF certainly get a much more aggressive tone and line of questioning on the show than any other party.. and I really dislike SF.

I always laugh every time Chris starts on the "Was Gerry Adams a member of the IRA?" question. In the last 20 years many much better journalists have tried, I don't think he is going to be the one to crack that case.

I don't think it's his intention to get an answer, but rather to see how the interviewee tackles it. And it's been interesting hearing how the various members confront the question.

Generally they all stick to the usual shinnerbot script?

Yeah, although some go straight into it, others give it some consideration as to how they answer it, if at all, and others you get the impression know that any answer other than yes is a fairy tale.

Chris' forced way of making sure he pronounces every letter in a word is irritating.

    THIS.IS.INDEED.A.CORRECT.STATEMENT.INDEED.

    HA!

The whole mother in law thing on Newstalk Breakfast the last few mornings is silly. It's a news programme, not a Les Dawson tribute show.

You could almost hear the laughter when Ivan and the business guy were discussing UTV Irelands expected losses

No its a breakfast show, i like the fact that its not up its own @rse and 100% serious like Morning Ireland.

Its catering for a certain market and the numbers show that its working.

The mother in law thing also stemmed from a story they covered during the paper reviews I think it was.

There was a lad on with Ivan on St. Patrick's morning as co-host. I have heard him as a reporter on Newstalk Breakfast on a number of occasions.
Thought he did very well. He was relaxed, interviews were coherent and not given to showboating histrionics and gelled well with Ivan, I thought.
    He did great.

Can't think of his name, sorry.

Kieran Cuddihy is the guy you are thinking of I believe. He is quire versatile as a reporter and as a stand-in.

Would they ever get rid of that insufferable eejit droning on about music like a bishop at a pulpit. John Meagher is his name. Instant off-switch moment.

INM will continue to do a hatchet job on Irish Water, then there boss Denis o Brien will swoop in and buy it for peanuts!

Just like he did with Siteserv. And a couple of hundred million of bank Dept's written off as well!

Pointless tuning in when Chris and Ivan aren't there together. Even though they both have a tendency to ham it up (especially Ivan), they're a very good double act and a lot more entertaining than Morning Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,543 ✭✭✭Claude Burgundy

Its a borefast orgy this morning with smug 1 and smug 2 in place.

Kieran Cuddihy is so smug and is so far up his own @rse i don't know how his voice isn't muffled !

And Chris just plays off him, i'm just glad there's no music review on this morning or its possible they could explode with a smugness orgasm !!

Having any of them without Ivan is like having a salad sambo when you really want a fillet steak !

I can't stand Ivan either.Tries too hard to be irreverent and his attempts to be the average man just annoy me.

Far prefer the show when he is off.

Ah, but a salad sandwich is nice every now and then. Satisfies the hunger nicely without being outstandingly tasty, and makes the steak taste all the sweeter when you finally get around to making it!

    Laboured metaphors ago-go! :D :P

agreed, I don't think Shane works at all outside of talking politics which hes not great at either. Bit like Chris he seems like a nice guy but he hasn't got that cut throat commentary or interview style needed. As soon as he begins to air a personal opinion on something he goes all softly spoken and turns is into a "some would suggest" type of approach so as not to offend or say the wrong thing that would make him fall out of favour with listeners. The complete polar opposite of Ivan and Hook (hook who I can not stand btw) but their opinionated arrogant, loud mouthed stubbornness on air is entertaining. Coleman and Donoghue both trying to outdo themselves in a popularity contest are a serious bore fest, especially when put together.

Who's yer man standing in for Jonathon Healy, thought he was very good and would be a lot better on either Hooks slot or the morning slot instead of either Chris Donoghue and Shane Coleman.

What your saying is that Coleman/Chris are too PC whereas George an Ivan are not (which I personally prefer):D

The stand in for Jonathan is John Keogh.

Did Chris just talk about football, even saying he watched the Real match:eek:

That has to be the first time i remember him speaking about sport.

he's put his foot in it a few times with some daft comments about sport so he generally keeps quiet :) not his cup of tea I suppose.

I was surprised at the level of debate they about DOB and Siteserv, admittedly they did pussyfoot around the issue but at least it got a mention. Any other party and there would be Ivan blowing a gasket with his usual waffle along the lines of "surely [insert TD who farted too loudly] position is now untenable!!!"

Chris' interviews with people on the No side of the referendum are laughable at times. Even when they're making perfectly reasonable points (leaving aside whether I actually agree with those points or not) he just keeps reiterating "The words of the question are...". No attempt to delve deeper into the objection.

Yer one from the Iona institute humiliated the poor lad last week, if he can't contest with that crowd what hope has he got.

He just doesn't cut it as an interviewer for me. He can't articulate concise questions to get to the nub of the matter.

Anyone else think that Ivan gave the Land League's Jerry Beades a soft interview this morning? He's usually quite bullish and full of bluster and I would have expected him to take the LL task over their position re. Brian O'Donnell. Instead he left him to off to attack the bank and yesterday's court decision.

Maybe it's just me. I thought it was odd. I would hope Yates isn't letting his own horrible experience with the bank reduce his willingness to question O'Donnell's ridiculous position.

I believe the bank in his own troubles were AIB and BOI.

As of today's JNLR figures, they're the most listened to show on NT. Up a massive 35,000 since this time last year.
