There's news articles on major sites announcing the playtest and emails, so I'm not seeing any NDA violation here.

Ah it's fine, only codding, it's no secret at this point with the amount of people invited to it and leakers etc. Only pointing out how specific the wording of the mails were!

Semantics aside, looking forward to seeing things moving, they're really going balls to the wall with this one. Short films, lore, portal. Trying to brush the sins of the past away. Hopefully it'll be Battlefields year!

So Recker is Oz " we were a team" and Pac gets dead.

I heard Orbital is the map in the tech test and that there are now Zones with sub flags and altho a technical test it eventually ran well (textures etc all over the place). If US win the rocket launchers if No Pats it blows up.

But lagwise I believe the cross play worked I heard you couldnt tell who killed you as in if they were human or AI or what PC/Console and the kill feed now omits either the killer or the killeds name and only the weapon Killer/Killed pops up. The guns system feels tacky I heard none of them feel like a gun and with on the fly accessories they all felt meh but that wasnt the point of the test so the person who told me this isnt bothered.

Only a few specialists available and tbh they are just different skins with an optional item in the loadout.

Gunplay sits between BF1 and BFV, players can move extremely quickly and the slide from BF1 is back.

Again I heard all this from posts on reddit and discord and other people.

"Anyway, I had to resist hating Irish as he was such a stereotype but kind of glad he's back and there is that canon consistency. Reminds me of COD in that regard with Captain Price. Hope Hannah is back too."

Does this not imply she went down the rope and ummm well yah know.

/Quote only quotes all the message and I wasnt bothering to reply to the Op.

Also the story thats running on the daily blogs actually has a point, the ship seems to be hub of sorts. Cant actually do anything in the test so I was told from another person but its implied you join games from there and helicopter takes you in, if you read the daily blogs it makes sense tbh.

I see both sides of the argument. Each game or franchise has a spectrum of authenticity, if they mess with that too much, it can create friction. Just because it's a video game doesn't mean "anything" can be thrown in, e.g. a machine gun in God of War wouldn't go down well.

Ignoring the misogynists and sexist twats, I can see why many in BF community reacted the way they did to the initial BFV trailer and style. That was their thematic choice, but it didn't go down well and as such we haven't seen it replicated in many other games.

Well, there's an irony of saying "garbage post", claiming I'm somehow denying sexism exists but then you go on to state you know what Battlefield players think of women? As in, the countless millions strong playerbase, you know what they, as a collective hive-mind, think of women?

It's a nonsensical statement. Literally every single game ever made has a minority toxic element. The bigger the game, the more notice these toxic elements get, but they remain a minority. Anyone who claims to speak on behalf of, or with an understanding of, an entire fanbase is deluded.

"It has nothing to do with authentic WW2 and you know it" is outright ridiculous. I'm literally telling you, as a long-time Battlefield player, the initial negative reception to the launch trailer had everything to do with that for me. There are many others felt the same. The majority, in fact.

Just because you personally don't care about historical accuracy doesn't give you the right to say those who do are sexist. I prefer games like Hell Let Loose and Enlisted to BFV, because mostly I crave a more historically accurate WW2 experience....and using mild language, some random person on the internet attempting to tell me it's because I'm a closet sexist or don't want women in games can get lost.

"You can get over the fact that vagina people are in your shooting games". Another nonsensical argument deliberately trying to derail the discussion and make it into something it's not. We're talking about the context of it being a WW2 shooter here, while you disingenuously try to twist it into a broader sexism issue in gaming.

There are no end of women in shooter games I play. Most of the characters I play in various games, specifically hero shooters, are actually women, not that it ever really occurred to me or I gave it much thought because I couldn't care less.

It's not about women. It's about a historical experience. Some people couldn't care less, some people do care - both are equally valid and everyone's free to purchase or not purchase, play or not play, like or dislike based on creative choices made that clash with a historical experience.

I mean, your post implies that if people can't "suspend my disbelief" then they have a broader issue with women in games. Are you actually so out of touch with reality that you believe that wanting historical accuracy equates to that, regardless of the medium of entertainment?

Are Enlisted and Hell Let Loose sexist games for not having females? Are the developers sexist? Are people sexist for preferring them to other WW2 games that do have women? What about American Civil War games, would someone be a racist because they disliked Robert E. Lee being black? Or if the Confederate side was made up of women and men of asian and black heritage?

Your argument that wanting historical accuracy is sexist and somehow incompatible with the notion of entertainment existing to entertain is utterly absurd. People are perfectly entitled to want historical accuracy, other players are entitled to not care, developers are perfectly entitled to make any game however they see fit.

"If you don't want women in a WW2 shooter that's up to you but it doesn't bother me and I enjoy it" - completely valid opinion and I'm fine with that. That loads of people including Battlefield and COD fans hold.

However your opinion is not that or even close, it's a nonsensical "if you don't want women in a game you're sexist" that pretends context is an inadmissible concept and ironically it's ultimately an extremely intolerant view.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,200 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

And there's nothing that says e.g. Transgender Asian people with e.g. Down Syndome in e.g. wheelchairs can't exist in the game either, but we all know what the reaction would be. There will be women in every BF game from now on, future or historical, and I doubt it will be a major issue because they since seem to have learned a lesson regarding their fanbase and presentation. It sends a far more powerful message to include women without making a fanfare circus about it. Just my opinion, back to 2042.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Homelander

You managed to deliberately twist and misrepresent everything I said and you're inventing most of your argument.

My whole point was that it's OK to not be OK with decisions taken by developers that compromise on historical accuracy, and that it's a valid opinion without being screeched at by people like yourself that you hate women.

The astounding ignorance of yourself to attempt to literally explain to me, that it's actually my rampant bigotry and hatred of women and refusal to see them as equals apparently, that's at play here simply for having a preference for historical accuracy.

It couldn't be that I am a huge WW2 history buff, have studied the subject avidly since I was a child, have made documentaries on many topics, have a library of about 1,000 books on the subject, and unsurprisingly as a result tend to play a ton of WW2 themed games.

That couldn't possibly be the reason I'm not thrilled about the direction BFV took and the reason I prefer games like Hell Let Loose and Enlisted that are visually authentic even though I still bought and played BFV for several hundred hours and at no point did I "terrorise" the developers in any way.

And apparently I'm utterly pretentious to suggest it was ever about historical accuracy?

The actual nerve of you to suggest that people who prefer historical accuracy "want to live a fantasy where women were second class citizens" and they can apparently induldge in their bigotry fantasies - and dismiss historical accuracy as a completely invalid reasoning.

Just because you personally don't care about historical accuracy doesn't mean other people don't. If that were the case games like Enlisted and Hell Let Loose, as well as tons of other genre games, wouldn't even exist. I guess you think those developers are all a bunch of woman-hating bigots on the wrong side of history as well.

Don't agree. Most of the friends I game with thought the initial trailer and theme were ridiculous. They don't "hate women". The overbearing theme was stupid.

tbh, surely all claims about 'historical accuracy' go out the window when you can destroy a tank with a few sneaky slaps of a hammer?

Not really. That's gameplay mechanics versus historical accuracy. I mean something like Verdun is a tremendously good visually authentic WW1 game and BF1 isn't too bad either but obviously neither are remotely historically accurate from a gameplay point of view for obvious reason.

A game where you spend 80% of your time huddled in a rat infested trench before slowly walking 1km across no mans land into withering machine gun fire wouldn't be much fun.

When people talk about historical accuracy they mean general portrayal of a given era and the internal world created, it's very little to do with the gameplay mechanics themselves as long as they're not outrageously out there.

BFV has stellar core gameplay but it doesn't feel like a WW2 game for a myriad of design reasons, the pacific campaign DLC was superb and felt way better, but for me BFV just doesn't feel like an immersive WW2 game, just a fun arcade shooter.

It's why I now play Enlisted mostly, occasionally I'll dip back in BFV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,200 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

Removing women from the equation. The first trailer was absurd. They were experimenting with a "reimagined" more "zany" World War 2 and it looked ridiculous (to me personally) with the metal arms, katana's and all that stuff. Judging by the community reaction it obviously wasn't a popular theme and approach.

Putting women in it front and centre triggered the mysogynists and obviously annoyed the authenticity types. That only added fuel to the fire. After I watched that trailer I immediately thought; well that looks stupid, and there's going to be an internet shitstorm after this, didn't take a genius to figure it out. The game that followed wasn't half bad (in my opinion) but the damage was already done.

I am excited about the new game. I am freshly coming from COD. I cannot play that title properly for the life of me, it's just not for me I guess. All battlefields have been fun for me, and I regret going away from the title. Even if Battlefield has one characteristic that aligns with Battlefield, I am still happy to get away from the run and gun style glitchy COD play.

The Beta showed up on the PlayStation store listing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

Beta supposed to be this Saturday but no official confirmation, preload morrow but again not official.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,261 ✭✭✭Shlippery

Think the latest dates thrown around are Sept 22nd for the Beta. Maybe a bit earlier for 'preorders' - I've EA Play or whatever, so hopefully will get it in early access via that subscription..if I like it will probably buy the full game then as I've done in the past.

Curious to see differences between the Beta and that other technical playtest that my good friend was playing

Seems to be a lot of radio silence lately from the dev team, wonder if they hit a hitch or if there'll be a delay. Beta was rumoured for the 22nd

One part where they should get a pass is the work from home angle, I feel game dev is something that'd need a lot of in-office work, so kudos to them for what they've achieved so far but hopefully we're not delayed til 2022.

There's been some significant gameplay changes added just recently, e.g. no more reviving with the medic dart gun from a distance. Late changes like that are a little concerning to me. I've seen way too many games released early just to pad a publishers annual revenue report. I'd be fine with a delay till March 2022, and to receive a game that's actually completed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

While I've no faith in Dice not to **** up, but a change like that wouldn't concern me. Yes it's a huge difference but there's a big difference between internal testing fill with people somewhat playing the objective and trying to play as they envision the game to be played compared to what happens when a 1000s monkeys slam their faces on a keyboard in a public test.

Plenty of games especially F2P have done far worse and actually had the mistake make it to release before being nerfed.

Rumours of the playtest not being as they said and actually being the current build, and then whatever huge issue that cancelled the PlayStation playtest.

And Nov 12th for 'early access' according to Freeman so not bad. An extra sprint of development maybe, be interesting to see what they can turn around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Homelander

I see the game requirements make zero sense, as is the case with most games these days.

The "minimum" AMD processor is the 3600, while the "recommended" Intel processor is the i7-4790, an almost 8 year old CPU that not only has way less cores and threads than the 3600, it's also slower per core.

Makes no sense whatsoever unless the game for some reason is running horribly on Ryzen. Which I doubt given BFV runs excellent on Ryzen.

Even putting aside the ridiculously overinflated AMD minimum spec, why would the recommended Intel CPU be an ancient i7 from 2014, which sure can run the game, but there's zero way it's giving an optimal experience versus an 8700K, 9700K, 10400F, etc that have more cores and threads.

I honestly don't understand where they pull these requirements from. Cyberpunk was the same, lists a crappy €99 3200G APU as the recommended AMD CPU and also Intel 4790 as the recommended Intel. Game comes out and unsurprisingly runs like total crap on both compared to newer processors.

Where do they pull them from? It happens in tons of games.

bought it from Pc specialist for 950.

Normally I build my own pc but i was only saving about 50-100e this time around so said I'd just have them build it instead and save me the hassle of RMA'ing faulty parts if that happened.

One of the perks is even after your order is delivered you can go back in, select your order and you can upgrade any of the components and they will either collect your pc to do the upgrade or send you the part. For some reason they charge 1250 for the card when you buy it with a Pc but for an upgrade they only charge 950.. couldn't resist that offer plus I got BF2042 for free with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Probably some weird manufacturer price fixing thing to limit the gouging, they can't charge a premium for a boxed GPU but the actual installed one they aren't limited as it's part of a full system with all the labour and quality checks that go and can accounted for in the price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,462 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

yeah not sure as I saw the same model going for 1250e on other sites just for the gpu. Could be a mistake on PC Spec's side but I'm not complaining.

Deja Vu :) Electronic Arts lead community manager, Adam Freeman, has stated Electronic Arts is scaling up server capacity to account for player demand.

EA's sheer contempt for their customers never ceases to amaze me.
