Got one of them recently. The way i got them was to scan all channels including the encrypted ones.Pain in the ass deleting all the sky encrypted ones, but it's one way of getting them.

Better do a Auto FTA scan first, then afterwards do an encrypted scan of the specific transponders carrying these affected channels (transponder details are listed online) . This will avoid so many encrypted channels being saved.

    BTW
I think if you try to record the affected channels (listed as encrypted though actually FTA) to USB, doing so is blocked on these Walkers though.

Which channels other than Irish Saorview ones are HD?

Don't know if it's just me but the only non-Saorview channel I can get in HD is Channel 4.

Just you I'm afraid, quiet a few of the sat channels are available in HD, BBC/ITV/CH4/CH5 etc.

See the blue highlighted channels here - https://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2E-2F-2G.html

Is it just a matter of retuning again or am I using the wrong settings for the satellite (or even the wrong satellite)?

You have Ch 4 HD , so you have the correct satellite(s).

Do a manual scan for one of the HD transponders, inputting all the required parameters - Freq/Pol/SR, and see how it goes.

Cool. I’ll give that a try tomorrow.

Actually, thinking about this I have no idea what you mean by transponder and the freq/pol and SR. How do I set these correctly? Thanks.

I'm not sure of the menu structure of your receiver but I assume it's similar to their other Vestel based TV products

If so, go to menu -> installation -> manual channel scan -> Satellite -> [enter the frequency, Polarisation, Symbol Rate (satellite should be Astra 2)] -> OK

The receiver will scan the selected frequency and store the found channels at the end of your existing list of channels from where they can be moved to your desired position and non-required channels deleted.

Example, one of the BBC HD transponders

    https://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2E-2F-2G.html

    Transponder 50
    Frequency - 10847
    Polarisation - V (vertical)
    Symbol Rate - 23000

Got that sorted, my satellite settings had a different frequency and symbol rate. I have the BBCs in HD now too! Thanks.

The Satco DX name will most likely be replaced by satellite channel table after a software update

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,325 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Thanks for the info, I'll try an update now

Edit: Just updated and still showing as satco dx , firmware date is 2018-09-10. Preset list does not have BBC1,2 in HD , think this was mentioned earlier in thread . I'll see if I can find someone to talk to at Walker to get the list updated.

My Walker TV no longer uses the Satco DX name but satellite channel table.

On the preset list of channels, I originally used this when I setup the TV about 12 months ago but it was a mess, did a clean scan of all transponders and ordered them as I wanted and then saved to USB.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,325 ✭✭✭✭Tony

The order on the preset is not too bad but obviously would be better with BBC HD and without E4 etc being labelled as "pay tv"

The box still has the issue of crashing when the Internet function is on

It only happens On BBC satellite channels you might find it happens less on BBC SD, but will crash immediately on BBC HD, possibly this is the reason for leaving out BBC HD

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,325 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Thats an interesting observation, I'll check it out tomorrow, thanks.

    Cheers Tony,

Also a small issue with the E4 channels etc.

The fta channels hiding behind the pay wall is that they cannot be recorded

just do a software upgrade and there will be no issues with the box crashing on BBC channels. It was the same with the Toshiba/Walker/Nordmende TVs made by Vestel.

    Hi Tony,

Just copped your software is 2018-09-10

    Mine is V. 10.0.0.37
    2018-07-10

I've been using the box for Saorsat, obviously it's not picking up the newer software.

I've connected up the terrestrial now which gives me strong freeview but a very week saorview signal, mabey it will pickup the newer software, will see.

The software is only available via internet download I believe.

Yes I saw that too. I spoke to the sales guy in Walker and requested contact details for their tech guy as this can be a great product for the Irish market if the issues can be corrected.

Just got off the phone with the walker distributor and Walker advise they will update the channel list and include this on the next firmware update next month. I'll get the channel list file soon and share it here if anyone wants to test.

Here is the latest channel list from Walker with pay tv flag issue fixed and BBC HD added. Unfortunately the latest Food network etc changes did not make it but its a good baseline to start from , you can download from here , test at your own risk

Tony you can edit those files with Notepad++

    472637.jpg

You can then check that its still readable using Nova SatcoDX (which only allows you to reorder and delete).

    472638.jpg

Incase you are trying to figure out the parameters to add or edit locked channels in the list or add new ones (in Notepad++), this is explained in the SatcoDX Industry Standard Format Protocol.

    Hi Tony,

That loaded very simple, good to see the BBC HD channels added.

I suppose from a tech persons point of view we will always find some fault, however overall the channel list is good.

    Negative:
    No UTV HD
No More 4 (however it has More 4 +1)
    No Radio Channels

    Negative:
Still issue with Pay wall channels, a channel behind the pay wall flag cant be recorded, the Channel 4 and Channel 5 family are behind a pay wall.

    Positive:
Good to see Non Freesat channels included:
    CNN HD
    Euronews
    Horse & Country
    Paramount
    Retro Movies

    On a personal note
    Add UTV HD, More 4
    Add Radio Channels
Re organise list with HD cahnnels in more prominant positions
Re organise channels better, ie. have all entertainment together, news together, movies together
Possibly add more foreign Channels (African News/Entertainment etc.)

In relation to the box, I am very pleased

    Positive:
Approved for both Saorview and Soarsat
7 Day programme guide on Saorview and Saorsat
Single channel list for Saorview and English Satellite channels
    Simple for recording
    RTÉ AERTEL
    Easy to set up
Simple remote control (Big and easy to see)
Easy set up of favourite list
    A good affordable price

    Negative:
Only now and next info for English Satellite channels
Issue with BBC channels when internet function turned on

Hope this helps, thanks for sharing Tony
