Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A plane just came through fairly low over the old head en route to cork airport, got a burst of amazing flashes. Id say its an impressive sight from up there.

I'm in Shanbally near Carrigaline and ive never seen so much lightning. It's moving slowly west along the coast.

Impressive enough light display over the mountains south of Clonmel all sheet lightening but quite active and regular. No thunder and only a few drops of rain about 30mns ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,471 ✭✭✭SweetCaliber

My inner child is out, never seen anything like this before, a light show in Tramore, around 3 - 5 seconds max between each flash. Sky is like a strobe light!

Had a fantastic view of the storms off the south coast about 40 minutes ago, from the vantage point of a plane. Flashes every couple of seconds.

Rain getting heavy now in Rochestown and the thunder is getting louder. Plenty sheets of lightning. Worth staying awake for.

I'm not kidding, I think they are filming a new Thor film in the skies over Carrigaline. It's absolutely insane here. Thunder is fantastic!

As I type this a electrical fork just went across the sky and another 13 seconds. This is crazy.

Edit: and another! This is crazy loud , like it's right above us. Dogs going crazy.

Thus is great, some blasts now

What are the warning levels for thunderstorms? This definitely feels like a more severe event than a yellow warning would suggest. Torrential rain, surface water on roads is very bad.

Met Éireann's explanation doesn't provide much.

Yellow: Thunderstorms No Criterion – not displayed.
Orange: Thunderstorms Widespread thundery activity over an area of several counties.
    Red: Thunderstorms No Criterion.

Hot damn, these are some nice pics!
