Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

€200? total impulse purchase at that price.

Looks like these may be very easy to hack, soldering on a USB cable to the board and plugging in a keyboard seems to be giving more games and some configuration options on some cabs

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoqsmylX_AU

I pulled the trigger on a Street Fighter 2, the want/need threshold was nullified with the price drop :)

Has anyone pulled the trigger on these? Seems a very good price. Are these well packaged up for trasit would be my only concern? Little to no in store availability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 225 ✭✭frasr

Been reading up a bit more, some of the different cabs/boards seem to have config files (not roms) from games they tested
e.g. street fighter board has config files for: 1942, 1944, asteroid, bwidow, ccastles, centiped, defender, ffight, gauntlet, gng, gngt, joust, liberatr, llander, milliped, missle, mk2, rampage, sbrkout, sf2ce, ssf2, ssf2t, strider, striderusa, and tempest.

So I've a feeling these will become very hackable shortly. The original street fighter cab was meant to have SF2, Strider, Final Fight & Ghosts N Goblins, and when they were dropped my interested dropped as well but looking forward to getting sick of SF2 and hopefully by then going back & putting Strider on it...oh the plans I have but won't have the time....

The packaging is decent with the monitor in the middle so I wouldn't worry about getting it delivered

I finished the mod and can now play all my old arcade favourites alongside NES, SNES, Megadrive, Gameboy and PS1

the only issue I had was that the screws on the paddles were glued on so I had to use a lighter to soften them up before replacing with the better ones

Cool! Yeah I went for the Spade invaders cab in the end. The artwork on these look nice and hopefully it'll play well.
Hopefully won't take too long to arrive! For €200 I think it's a good price compared what they were upon release and probably would have cost me more to build.

It seems the artworks on the controller panel are prone to wear, I believe you can contact 1Up for a clear cover to over the artwork. Could probably get a clear film and do it yourself too.

I don't but have seen the reviews.

Mine arrived today. Took me about an hour to put together, very straight forward, every part was labelled and instructions were very clear. It's extremely well packaged together.

The artwork is class, really eyecatching.
The cab itself is nice and compact, could probably do with little arcade stool for it, would go nicely if I can find one online. Gameplay and sounds are very good, it has its own volume switch.

I am aware that the control panels are open to wearing however, Arcade 1up got back to me within an hour with an order number for a free plexiglass protector that sits on top, awaiting dispatch on that.

Overall, It's very eye catching and nicely compact if you don't have a big room for it and a good price to at the moment. Sorry for the picture quality, but I've attached some below.

So I've one of these wrapped for me for Christmas day, it's the rampage one, kinda bummed she didn't get me the street fighter one but I'm still excited more than I have in years for Christmas day:D
Shame it isn't easy to add games, does it look like it will ever be an option without adding buttons and all that stuff listed in the video a few pages back?
I'm interested in getting a riser for mine but gamestop don't seem to have it listed and amazon doesn't seem to have it either, does anyone have a link to somewhere I can get one from please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,755 ✭✭✭Inviere

The SF2 one is the only one that’ll be worth adding more games to, as the control types of the other machines are really restrictive in terms of what’s playable beyond the included games.

I love the artwork and finish on all of them, but even at half price, it’s still a hard sell for me. I think I’d lean more toward a Pi in a CRT project with one of those rgb thingies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 817 ✭✭✭ronanc1000

AFAIK the riser isn't available to us in Ireland or the UK, so we are early to the game in the whole Arcade1up movement as such.

I did find on Reddit a page that does update availablity around the world. What cabinet is available in what region etc. This includes the riser. Hopefully that and other cabinets (like pacman I hope!) will be available early next year.

Anyone else think the dimensions look off with the riser?

They were designed proportionately to be small. Stick it on a riser and it doesn't look right.

I guess you'd have to get a look at it in the flesh. If the riser doesn't try to be part of the unit itself then it could look OK.

http://arcade1upstore.com section on the website specifically for it

Edit:that form seems like it's for the US only.

They have an email address on the UK end, use that.

    service@arcade1up.co.uk

That's what I used and they got back to me fairly quick so far I've an order number for the panel protector. They are available Monday - Friday, 9-5.

Sure worst case scenario you can always stick it on Adverts, shouldn't be that hard to get your money back on it anyway.

I’ll keep an eye on the mod that may end up allowing the addition of extra games to the stock system. Adding a Pi, new controls, encoders, etc, I dunno...I’d be worried it’d dilute the overall product a tad. You’d need to be very careful about adding too many games of course too.

Changed my mind on this, looking to cancel my order.
It's really down to the crappy spinner that they used, apparently it spoils Tempest completely.

Their one is over €500, at least that was the price in the catalogue!

Are most people ordering them with the shipping option?

I'd say so. I did anyway because there's was little to no stock anywhere. I ordered on the morning of the 13th with express shipping option (which is free) and it arrived the following afternoon.

Ah sweet, I just sent a pm to inverie asking about shipping times but that answers my question.

**** it, I think I'll cave in and order now.

Might go with a core i5 build.

It seems a lot of people are modding these. Would it not work out cheaper to buy the parts, some decals and build it yourself.

    Well, that's the thing.
Certainly, at €400 it was near regular cab money, and if you were going to try and have a RPi build of your own you would have better to go straight for an upright.
But at €200, well a slot it together yourself DIY kit is nearly in that territory, and there's value in the control panel, decals and screen as it is, slap in a RPi and you're good to go... until you need a candy at least!

    I caved in and ordered.

Here's the controller board needed if anyone who has Amazon especially prime wants to get it before Christmas.

Theres a lighting deal on zero delay usb arcade encoder on Amazon at the moment. About £5.50 delivered for those who want to get them soon.

It's a lightning so you can only order a quantity of 1,.and then pay full price for the next which is £6.99.

Have them in Gamestop Navan for 200, Ah at that price they're decent enough considering a PS Classic is half that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,058 ✭✭✭Doge

Here’s the amplifier I went for on amazon:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LEHBDCW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Seems to be the cheaper price of all the listings and is sold by amazon direct so the UK power supply should be decent and safe I’d imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭eddhorse

They will still come down in price after Xmas in the sales, down to €150 in the US.
Had a go on the SF2 in Gamestop in the Square n Tallaght.
They actually had it sitting on a box to bring it higher by 2 foot.
Buttons and joysticks seemed ok, as did the LCD screen. Not much more to them really.

Mine shipped yesterday and I was hoping for it to arrive today but it says it's up in Dublin Parcel centre according to the tracking info.
I just hope it comes tomorrow so I can sneak it in as I'll be away for a few days haha.

And, of course, Gamestop ignored my plea to cancel the order and shipped it instead.
Not only shipped it, but omitted part of my address so it is not going to get delivered now anyway.
    What a shower of half-wits.

The GameStop customer service email is not regularly monitored as far as I can tell. Had to do a chargeback a year or two ago because I simply couldn't contact anyone to handle a problem. As a result, I'll only ever buy from them now if I can use PayPal.

I was thinking the same thing, if only I had more space I'd be aiming to create a mini arcade. I wreckon you'll get them on adverts for anything between €100-150.

    They must be swamped.

Wouldn't put all your stock in the An Post tracking system at the mo......know two lads who've had cabs delivered today and yesterday and both are still 'at the Parcel Center'.
Just run off their feet right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,058 ✭✭✭Doge

You're right! The tracking status "out for delivery" updated a bit late and the cab was delivered!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,058 ✭✭✭Doge

So the build was pretty easy to do but one of the holes underneath the control panel didn't line up with hole above it.
So only 3 out of 4 screws are holding it down at the moment.

    468495.jpg

I probably just need to drill a new hole to line it up properly. Luckily they give you a spare screw because I stripped mine with a drill trying to get it in! Had to also trim the top left of the control panel as the molding was sticking out through the wood. Just a minor issue really.

Anyways here it is completed, as you can see theree no real point in building a cab from scratch as the side art won't be seen:

    468493.jpg

    468496.jpg

First impressions of the screen, it's very bright and could benefit from scanlines.
Hopefully I'll be able to tweak the brightness and contrast with that LCD driver board.
