Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Eh, I never liked the rush games as much as everyone else did. The mini games in the second one are rubbish, and the two storylines are exactly the same levels, just that blaze is a little slower than sonic with a weird hover ability, and they retcon whatever story they give her in the rush games in sonic 06.

The problem with Sonic developers is they focus too much on the speed aspect. Sonic was never about speed. Too much speed and the game is uncontrollable. sonic was always about inertia. sonic controlled poorly and couldn't move very well unless he picked up some inertia then he controlled a lot better.none of this homing attack on rails bull****. It's that simple.

    This, right here.
If there is one thing that fupping ruins modern Sonic games is the insidious insertion of this homing attack in every modern Sonic game, as if it's as part of what we loved about the 16 bit games as running fast.
    Here's a clue Sonic Team, IT ISN'T!
    It's awful!
It makes the gameplay judder, stop and result in almost random enemy attacks getting through resulting in loss of speed and rings.
There are so many unwieldy characters that seem to be able to negotiate terrain with grace, from the Cogs of GoW to Nathan Drake, not to mention a certain portly plumber.
And yet they just can't seem to get it right.

Maybe they could just hand it over to Ubisoft, let the gang behind Rayman Origins and Legends take a stab at it.
It would wind up being beautiful with enough fan service to keep the old codgers happy and with enough innovation to make the kids squeee with delight.
    Why not?
It's not like Sonic Team appear capable of doing anything else with the franchise aside from drive it into the ground.
At this point the games are fast becoming akin to Army Men games, pure bargain bin fodder.

Well, the Ubiart driven titles have at least introduced something new and impressive into platformers, and I think they'd make an excellent stab at it.
But then my dogs randomly smashing the keyboard of a dev kit making a Sonic game would probably make a better stab at a Sonic game than Sonic Team.

this is not made by sonic team though

Its somewhat interesting to note (at least according to neogaf) Nintendo heavily supervised the development of bayonetta 2, hence why that game has turned out so well, meanwhile the team for this was basically left to their own devices.

It's also worth noting that Bayonetta 1 was a masterpiece from an incredibly talented development studio, and a sequel with a broadly similar team was unlikely to be anything other than excellent.

Sonic, meanwhile, has flopped his way through three or four console generations while barely featuring in a game worth anything more than mild praise and several worthy of outright disdain.

In short, far above Nintendo's involvement / lack thereof, might I suggest 'Bayonetta = Good, Sonic = Bad'?

Well I'd be perfectly receptive to a new, good sonic game. I don't know how they'd do it, but I'd play it.

I read that Nintendo were pretty hands off during development.
Playing the game betrays little that suggests they had some hand in it, so if they did have input they were able to adopt an entirely alt persona and allow the game to feel 100% Platinum/Sega.

No I know, I really like B2, I meant in the sense of the one nintendo apparently supervised being good, and the one they supposedly didn't being garbage (again)

I'm not necessarily against the implementation of the homing jump, but tracking it back to Sonic Adventure and its sequel, it just categorically did not work, and there was no discipline in implementing it. Not only was it a sometimes twitchy, awkward shot, but it gave so many levels a rail-like quality that lent it an air of "right, we got this, you just hold the controller."

So this game is terrible, full of glitches and ps2 era textures, there is a glitch that allows you to skip 80% of the game, it has been beaten in under an hour already, Shadow and Metal Sonic are there for no real reason apparently bar the fans would enjoy them being there, and from what I have seen on twitter there is a glitch that makes the graphics better? WTF?

Also read there was 3 or 4 testers for bugs and glitches in the game and that was it.

I want to play this for myself but 40-50 euro just seems like a waster of money so I'm gonna wait till a price drop.

    Thoughts on Boom so far?
Games bad, comic and tv show good

3-4 testers for a normal-size, linear game is the norm AFAIK.

Assuming 3 months testing, that's still €20-25k costs.

Having a small test team for a game like this would be alright.

Not responding to bug reports logged by those testers on the other hand...

Think I'l wait for a price drop, the 3DS version doesn't look much good either.

I paid €7 for Sonic Unleashed, it was €10 too much

heh, I'm not saying its a good game (hell I played it at the eurogamer expo and disliked it immensely) but I am oddly feeling sympathetic because everybody seems to be out very quickly to bash it to bits.

compared to sonic 06 which is the worse sonic game where it was mostly ignored as a bad game initially and then a few weeks after release it trickled in how really really bad it was.

The game is barely on shelves and already gamegrumps are trying to redo the success of their sonic 06 series with it etc.

    Sort of makes me sympathetic.

It's a game made by a company who are in a business to make money. It's not an unloved puppy.
If people make crap games they should not be rewarded with profits and sales. It's that simple.
If people make crap games that run a beloved franchise into the ground and stamp on it, well even more reason to avoid.
The fact people will part with money for this beggars belief.
Though that being said I've stated before I'm not a Sonic fan

The studio's staff turnover rate was high during development.
