    Hi everyone.

Shelli, that's fab re: your discharge. You must be happy to have that behind you.

I am 29 weeks today and I am also huge. The PGP that was really bad in July is starting to creep back in again. I am finding myself increasingly challenged in my mobility. I will go to work this week and if it feels like too much I'll look to getting signed off the following week. I would use a lot of sick leave but I am so exhausted coming home everyday that I think it would be worth it.

I had a consultation on Tuesday where I found out that my GTT test was negative, but it was close to the line in some of the categories. She did a scan and said that the head and spine were measuring fine but that the stomach was measuring two weeks ahead. She proceeded to give me a lecture about my diet, etc. I was surprised because I have been making a very conscious effort with my diet all summer. I was very upset leaving the hospital. I went back yesterday to repeat my GTT and to have a repeat anatomy scan. The anatomy scan showed that actually the stomach - and everything else - was measuring totally normal. The sonographer said it was probably because the gyne/obs have inferior machines in their offices. I was relieved but also a bit annoyed because I had been so worried all week.

I haven't started packing a hospital bag yet, but I will also read the thread on here and come up with a list to make a start on. I've ordered some nighties online and we have already bought all of the big stuff for the baby. We put the co-sleeper together this morning. We're buying some nappies/sudocream/wipes/sleep suits, etc. with the shopping every week so I have a wardrobe that's completely bursting at this stage. I should really stop buying clothes, I know, but we're having a girl and everything is so damn cute.

I am also a bit anxious about restrictions on fathers. When I was waiting for the clinic to open for my repeat tests yesterday morning, I saw a woman going in to have her baby. She was waddling along with her partner who was holding her bags. Once they got to the door, a porter came and took the bags off the partner and he had to shuffle off back to his car while she went in for the early stages of labour. It really broke my heart looking at it.

    Hey ladies.
Havnt been on here in awhile.
I'm 30+1. Time flying. Nothing done! Ye are all so prepared, good on ye!! I'm extremely busy in work and on my feet all day that I just dont have time to think baby stuff. When I get home late in evening I'm just exhausted. I'm gonna finish up in four more weeks so will get my head in the game then. I'm always a last minute person anyway haha.

Great news about your discharge from clinic Shelli.
Any update on your placenta Becks?

I feel restrictions wont be let up. Not in CUMH anyway. They really dont care about us women! Such a shame in this day and age. Let the partners get tested!! I guess because this is my first baby I wont know any different and trying not to over think things. Just going with the flow. We can do it ladies!!! We are strong!!! Xxx

Ah not too much done its just distracting me from the anxiety of watching the news 🙈

No updates on the placenta yet they have me booked in for a scan in another 4 weeks to check if its moved but I'm in with the consultant on Friday and they usually do a little scan by the bed so hopefully have more of an idea then.

I'm the same as you because its my first I don't know much different and we're very lucky to live within 10 mins of the hospital so I'm trying not to panic about the restrictions. Its awful hearing of so many women getting bad news alone 😞

I'm sure you're very relieved to hear everything is measuring normal but annoyed at being through the unnecessary worry last week!

We are the same with lots of clothes bought, we're having a boy and I can't pass all the Disney stuff in penneys we have a suitcase nearly filled! He's the first grandchild on my side too so being spoilt already!

I had a pregnancy massage today it was really relaxing I have to say and felt very safe covid wise, it was a nice treat.

Hi folks, FTM here and due at the very end of December. Does anyone know if you get one final scan if a public patient? I’m on the Domino scheme for the Rotunda but attend outpatient appointments in a local clinic. I was at the GP for my antenatal visit today and she seemed to think that only the heartbeat would be monitored and I’m due no more scans. Just would like to have one final look, so might pay for my own scan if this is the case. Thanks and good luck to everyone!

As far as I'm aware, if there's nothing unusual at 20wk scan there are no further follow up scans.
That's how it was with my son, but that was 13 years ago, someone might confirm if that's been updated or is still the same?

I'm being scanned again at 34wks, but that's because they detected a couple big things that need following up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭thefasteriwalk

I have a scan on Nov 3 and I'm due on Dec 12. Although I am not sure if that's standard practice or if it's because I have an anterior placenta.

Hi ladies, hope everyone is keeping well.

I had my 3d scan on Saturday, and it was worth every penny having my husband there with me. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't have bothered, but it made such a huge difference to him. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about it.

On Saturday baby was head up in my ribs and placenta still sitting very low, just like all my previous scans.
On Tuesday and Wednesday I was crippled with cramps, what I thought was a big or something I ate, but no vomiting or loose bowels, and it passed by Wednesday PM.
I had my 32wk check today and consultant scanned me.......she has completely flipped and dragged placenta with her! Head is now down and placenta sitting nice and high out of the way. He says that's what the pain was.
So it's looking likely I might avoid a section after all (they'll still monitor for size and other bits of course)

Im definitely going to pack my bags in the next few days. I'm super big and uncomfortable now.

Thefasteriwalk: no idea about scans I'm afraid. I had my last one at 20weeks. Would love another one just to see how much baby grown. I know my partner said he didnt mind not being there for the scans (first baby) but I wonder should I surprise him with a private scan appointment. I know he said that wasnt necessary in the past when my friends got them done. Does it have to be 3D or can you just do 2D (the ones like in the hospital)?

That's great news Shelli! Clever little girl you have in there :)

I'm 33weeks. Still working away. On feet all day. Exhausted. Heartburn. Must get different/stronger iron tablets. Reluctant to take anything for my heartburn even though I know it's ok.

Must look into antenatal and breastfeeding classes still. Midwife asked if I had my hospital bags packed the other day...clearly I just laughed. In work I'm super organised and everyone comments on it...but in my personal life not so much it seems haha. I'm a lastminute.com kind of person, work better under pressure.

I don't think there is another scan after the 20 week one unless there is an issue.
We went for a private scan about 16 weeks and it was totally worth for my husband, made it all real for him, so glad we did it.
Re the antenatal classes, both the rotunda and coombe have videos online (have watched them both) and am signed up for a private one day course delivered online also. Yes, I need information, and I swear I'm not panicking, lol.

Loveheart sweets are supposed to be great for heartburn if you don't want to take meds...
    ..., I'm drinking Gaviscon like it's tea 🙈
I get acid reflux rather than heartburn, I have to sleep propped up otherwise I wake with mouthfuls not acid bile. It's really unpleasant.

I packed my bag after posting yesterday, it wasn't as daunting as I thought.

Just had my online antenatal class with NMH, I have to say, I'm feeling much more positive now and the midwife explained the current restrictions well, it's not as scary as it seemed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 98 ✭✭Becks0603

    Hi ladies,

So nice to read everyone's updates! I can't believe how quickly the time is going. I'm 32 weeks on Tuesday, we did do the private 2d/3d scan and it was lovely to be able to go together and get to see the baby even though he spent most of the time hiding behind his arms and legs!

I have another scan in the hospital at 33 weeks because my placenta was very low at the 20 week scan.

Great to hear the baby has turned for you shelli, mine is still head up under my ribs really hope he moves by himself!

How did you all find the online classes you done?

I'm out today trying to get bits for the hospital bag in case we do go in to another lockdown, I know there's always online but I wanted to get some bits in penneys.

I just did the one class, it was a refresher class for second time mother's (or more), specific to those who had first time vaginal delivery and who are planning another vaginal delivery.
They have very specific classes for each type of birthing scenario, twins, VBAC, cesarian etc.

I found it great, midwife was was informative and helpful, taking the time to answer each and every question in depth.
She explained the current regulations in NMH in detail, which really eased my anxiety.

I had asked for the FTM classes, as it's been 13 years and I don't think I even did any last time, but she advised against it as second time around is different and has different protocols etc. I'm glad I did the refresher now, there is actually a lot different that I wouldn't have known about.

Sounds really good Shelli, I'm in the coombe and I think they've just put up some videos online so going to have a look at whats there the weekend.

Good to known the restrictions aren't as scary in reality, really hope whatever the government decide to do now, things aren't too serious by the time we're all giving birth.

I'm in the coombe too and have watched the labour videos, they are pretty good. Although I have nothing to compare them to I guess.

Thanks blueturnip every little bit of information helps I suppose!

I'm trying to work on the hospital bag the weekend and watch the videos, if I get that done I'll be happy!

There's a free 6wk online course from Trinity too, I did it early on and found it decent.

Oh I did that one too, also found it very good Shelli2. I also signed up to https://babyacademy.ie/ for their free workshop and also paid for their antenatal course (haven't done that yet).

Thanks, I’ll know more next week when I see the midwife again in my outpatient clinic but I’d say you’re right. :)

Got my last few bits in Penny's today, all clothes are now washed and wardrobe organised.

I was afraid of everything closing in another lockdown, and it's getting so much harder to move around and bend down to the machines.

4 to 7 weeks to go now....I've been told I definitely won't be let go over the 40wk mark, really hoping to avoid medical induction so I'm stocking up on all the home remedies. I know realistically baby will come when she's ready but at least I'll feel like I'm doing something..... patience is not my forte. LOL.

I have Clary Sage oil for my aromatherapy burner.
    Raspberry leaf tea.
    Majool dates.
    Breast pump ready.
    Booked my acupuncture.
Sitting on my ball all the time.
And the husband has been forewarned of his obligations too, haha!

Is this standard practice? I have a scan tomorrow week so I should learn about my updated situation then. I am just hoping that my anterior placenta isn't blocking my cervix - really hoping for a natural birth.

I have SPD and it's been getting progressively worse. I am hoping to be signed off next week as I really don't feel that I can keep doing a 2 hour daily commute with the pain in my pelvis. Plus, I am huge and getting more uncomfortable by the day.

I am also looking at 4-7 weeks as I am due on the 12th, but I'd love for it to be closer to 4 than 7.

    Same due date 😊

Wouldn't be standard practice as far as I'm aware.

I was 41+6 on my first baby, and he was 12lb.
I've had a few minor hiccups this time around, and she's measuring big already. From the very beginning I've been clear with my consultant that I don't want to be left to go over, I couldn't risk another huge baby, so he promised to monitor very closely and induce if I got to 40wks or earlier depending on weight.

Unfortunately I've no faith in the accuracy of the weight by scan. I was scanned the day before having my son and he was estimated 8.5-9lb.
It was only after his birth they said it should have been a section 'if they had known he was so big'.

Jesus, that's horrific. You poor thing!

My uncle was 1 stone and my grandmother had a lot of trouble because of it later in her life.

I suspect you're right not to trust them: the consultant said my baby's tummy was measuring two weeks ahead the last time I was with her and booked me in for another scan, but that showed that she was measuring normal. Very stressful.

Are you all still working? How is it going?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 928 ✭✭✭Shelli2

I'm working from home and it's very flexible so I'm lucky. I haven't been in the office since the end of February.
My official last day is 27th November, so I'll keep going as long as I can.

  • Registered Users Posts: 98 ✭✭Becks0603

God I'd say the commute is a killer @thefasteriwalk, I am working from home 3 days and 2 days in the office but starting to get uncomfortable now too. 7 weeks left today fingers crossed but I mentioned the pains at my last appointment and the consultant said it was probably the start of pelvic girdle pain :(

Hopefully it'll be closer to 4 than 7 weeks for you @Shelli do you just sit on the ball or do you do exercises? I just got one, hoping it might help with the PGP and have a scan tomorrow to find out if my placenta has moved up and hopefully baby has turned!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 928 ✭✭✭Shelli2

PGP is a killer, but I find the ball definitely helps, I hope it gives you some relief too.
I just sit on it, kind of bounce a little and roll my hips around, basically whatever feels good when I'm sitting on it.

Going into the office if the PGP gets worse will be difficult, Becks. I find going onto and coming off the clutch really painful. I went to the physio last week. She gave me a Serola belt which hasn't been working too well. I found the whole process more sympathetic than useful, to be honest. Nov 27th is officially my last day, too, but I almost certainly won't make it that far.

Yeah I find getting in and out of the car really sore along with turning over in bed at night, made worse by the pain in my hip from lying on my left side so much. I'm lucky it's only a 10/15 minute drive to work, I can't imagine the commute your faced with and traffic is basically nearly back to normal now! Hopefully you get signed off sooner and can mind yourself before baby comes along.

Had the follow up scan to check my placenta and the sonographer said it's moved up and is no longer a concern but baby is still breech. 33 weeks yesterday she didn't seem very encouraged that he'll move, I asked her was there anything I could do and she just said not really have a chat with the doctor next week.

Oh girls. I could be (hopefully) having a November baby.

    I had a scan today, 34+4.
Baby girl is already weighing 7lb ,1oz. (Approximately 4-5 weeks ahead). If I hadn't had lots of early scans that showed my dates were correct, I'd be convinced I was actually wrong my last period date.

I have to see my consultant next week to make a plan. I'm definitely going to push for induction at 37wk.

  • Registered Users Posts: 38 maisie_moo

7lbs 1oz already, wow! Great to know she thriving anyway! You'll be meeting her very soon imagine!!

Becks, has your baby turned yet??

Iv finished up work this week. I'm 36 weeks. Feeling good physically. Heartburn is annoying me though..its literally after everything I eat. Taking stuff for it.
I'm looking forward now to some rest and downtime. Though I must finish packing hospital bag.. organised as ever!!
Have girl name options but no boys names, so little stressed on that front. Why are boys names harder?
Have antenatal class this weekend and breastfeeding one week after. Baby better stay put until I learn a few things haha.

  • Registered Users Posts: 98 ✭✭Becks0603

Oh shelli that's exciting, she must be thriving in there 7lb 1oz already :)

Our little man is still breech just back from the hospital, I have a tiny cyst that they are monitoring, they don't seem worried about it but the woman doing the scan gave me a good look at him and he has his head tucked in at my ribs and bum down low which I'm assuming is where the pelvic pain is coming from haha I'm 34 weeks and back in tomorrow with the consultant so will see what they say.

I'm the same maisie hospital bag is nearly finished being packed but I feel like I'm saying that ages haha great that you're finished work and have the time to relax a bit and do your classes. We booked the baby academy antenatal class but it's not until 21st November!

Oh I know we are struggling to agree on a name for him, we both love two different names and trying to come to a compromise haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭Cailleachdubh

I'm 35+2 today. Midwives told me last week that baby was breech, which was a bit of shock. They told me to get on my ball, try spinning babies etc and that he had around a 2 week window where he was more likely to turn. After that it's less likely. Finished up in work last week. I have a 1 hour 15 min+ commute and emotionally I was finding it tougher after the breech news. They're bringing me back to the midwives' clinic tomorrow and will send me in to meet the team and make a plan if he's still breech (which I think he is). If it ends up being a section, so be it, I think my hormones are just raging at the moment! Now that I'm chilling at home, I'm feeling better though but very uncomfortable in the evenings with pressure under the ribs and heartburn. Bag is more or less packed and I've been buying loads of baby stuff online...All the deliveries! Trying to get the house in order now....sloooowwwllly

I'm a week behind you Cailleach, trying to sit on the ball in the evening but I really feel like he's too just comfortable where he is. Good to know you still have a 2 week window, a lot of people are telling me the baby can flip even when we're asleep so we might not notice.

Thank God you're finished with the commute, that alone is very draining. Also buying loads online, the baby stuff is just too cute. Enjoy your time at home now and make sure you look after yourself :)

Oh Shelli, you poor thing. Still, I think you're lucky to hopefully have her here sooner rather than later. I would be very happy with a November baby. I hope all goes well with the consultant next week.

Maisie Moo, I've also finished up work. I feel much better now and I actually think having all this time to relax will be helpful for labour (or, at least, I'm hoping that's the case). We were the same with names. We now know that we're having a girl, but before we found out we had a list of something like 8 girls' names and couldn't agree on any boys' names at all.

I'm very lucky. I had a scan on Tuesday and baby is in position and ready to go. I also feel like I'm ready to go so the thoughts of spending another 5 weeks with my PGP, the general discomfort and the heartburn is quite frustrating, but I just keep reminding myself that she has a little more growing to do.

For the breech ladies, my last one was breech all
Along. When he came out (section) the cord was wrapped around his neck twice so they reckon he couldn’t turn. My friend was breech up to 38 weeks and was also booked for a section and hers turned and she didn’t even notice! You just never know and it’s somewhat out of your hands.
I’d love a November baby too but I won’t get my hopes up! I went on maternity leave early and then the lockdown came, and my OH got covid, and I had to mind kids alone for his isolation and it was very very tough. But it’s over now and can just try to get ready and rest as much as I can. The silver lining is my consultant reckons my OH has immunity at least for a while so no chance of him getting it when baby is due, and also given that we’re due at the end the lockdown hopefully covid numbers will be way down and we’ll all be that bit safer in hospital.

Thanks for the beanybabog. Glad to hear your husband is over the covid and it's one less thing to worry about.

My appointment on Friday really unnerved me the doctor basically said to decide before my next appointment in 2 weeks if I want them to try turn the baby at 37 weeks or book a section for 39 weeks. She said there is only a 40% chance that it would be successful them trying to turn him because its a first baby and he's been breech the whole time then if something goes wrong I'd need an emergency section.

The sonographer had mentioned his head was a bit big so the doctor on Friday decided she wants me to do a glucose test this week because of that and my bmi at the start was abit high. Feels very late to be doing a glucose test at 35 weeks.

She went through the possibilities of why he was breech and mentioned in rare cases it could be a sign of something else I could look into a harmony scan. That kinda tipped me over the edge surely its a bit late to be saying that to me at 34 weeks :( anyway I've had a few days to get over the appointment and I feel OK now if I have to have a section so be it as long as we're both OK that's all that matters and at least I'll know when he is going to arrive.

Becks my own experience is that some doctors are totally fine with trying to turn the baby, others act like it’s a huge deal and there’s loads of risks.
And then of course you hear some babies are breech for a “reason” and you go down the black hole of worry. My consultant was fairly blasé about trying to turn baby- I asked was it risky and he said he wouldn’t do it if it was and it’s only risky if someone tries to force it around. We did it and he was very gentle- lifted babies bum out of my pelvis and tapped its head, but baby didn’t swing around so he left it. As I said it transpired the cord was probably keeping him breech.

Thanks for that, I was a bit of a wreck on Friday but I've calmed down now I feel like the consultant was just ticking information off a list in her head. It can seem a but like they're pushing their own agenda. I think if he hasn't moved before the next appointment I'll just go with booking the section and sure what will be will be. As you said with the cord there was no way your baby was going to turn and you only found that out after.

Becks I said the same, if my baby is breech this time I wasn’t going to bother with ECV. The section isn’t bad, I think it’s nearly easier when the choice is out of your hands.

    Thanks Beany.

How is everyone getting on this week? My doctor finally got the flu vaccine in and I got it this morning, was starting to think baby would be here before I got it at this rate haha

I'm fed up now to be honest, I know I shouldn't complaint, baby is doing well and I'm lucky enough work from home, but I'm just ready for baby to be here.

I had the flu vaccine at my last GP appointment too - small side effects suffered included a very sore arm for at least 3-4 days, it was firm and hot to touch, and on the 4th day I had very mild flu like symptoms, aching joint and muscles but no temperature. Overall, I feel it's definitely worth it for the protection it gives.

My mobility is completely shot now, I can barely walk a few hundred yards without pain starting, and my hands and feet swelling badly. Turning the the bed is complete agony. And the lack of sleep is starting to become unbearable, I seem to be completely unable to sleep for days and then one day will nap the day away.

I just keep telling myself that we are nearly there, and she will be so worth it!.
I knew a pregnancy at my age (38) would be different to my first pregnancy on my son (25), but i really wasn't expecting it to be so much more difficult.

I just can't wait until she's here! With my consultant on Thursday, hoping for an early induction due to her size, so we'll see.

I myself was a breech baby and was turned by the doc, my mother said she found it very straightforward and not painful but a little uncomfortable.

Not at all Shelli, its tough going and sometimes you just need to complain and get it off your chest.

Fingers crossed for an early induction for you, it nearly gets harder the closer you are because you still feel like its ages away!

Same Shelli, I can’t sleep at night even when tired but I nap when I can.... I’d love a proper full night sleep. I’m constantly waking. My legs and hips are sore too, nothing major but I’m sick of aches and pains, tiredness, and just generally never feeling comfortable in my own skin. On my last ones I was counting the days down but this time even though I’m finished work I’m just taking it day by day, have a lot of online Christmas shopping to do and bits to organise so that’ll keep me from wishing the days away. I’ll be glad when it’s all over though!
