Thanks. I'd highly recommend it if anyone is impatient for the 12 week check in.

That’s lovely! I did one too but earlier so it was more of a blob! This is my third in a row and I always do an early scan because I hate the idea of waiting until 12 weeks with nothing. I went to ultrasound.ie and they were excellent, one person in the waiting room, wash you hands before you walk in, disinfect everything. I felt very reassured. Even got stopped by the gardai on the way and they accepted my reason!

I’m in the NMH on Monday for my first app and the harmony test. Is anyone else doing it? I also find it good for peace of mind and also to get the gender early. When I’m sick in the early days I find knowing the gender makes it more real and easier to bear all the rubbish bits

Hi just a quick question for people on here who have done this all before 😠what happens at the first scan/maternity appointment? It says it can take up to 2 and a half hours and just wondering exactly what tests they do etc. Thank you

    Hi RubyJessie,

The scan and 'booking visit' are done on separate days in some hospitals. The scan is done by a technician (unless private) and they can't tell the sex until later scans. The booking visit involves blood pressure, weight and urine sample and then you meet with a midwife who will run through your medical history. There's a bit in it so can take a while.

I'm thinking about the Harmony, but when I rang one of the companies that does it in Galway, it was going to cost 650 euro. So I'm on the fence now. Might still get it but they recommended getting it closer to 12 weeks rather than 10 as it is more accurate then.

650!Wow.I think we were told just under 400 on our last in 2018.We didn't go for it in the end, but I can see why people might want it though.Just felt I had been through 2 previous pregnancies without it anyway.

Merrion is charging €430. €650 is very high

    Hi all,
Congrats to everyone! I am due in August and had the panorama test. Great piece of mind especially now as anomaly scans have been shortened :(

For anyone who has health insurance, you can claim it back with Irish life health under “pathology” and I think with vhi it’s under “foetal screening”.

I paid €450 in the rotunda and got €225 back from Irish life Health. You can claim back 20% back of the remainder through your tax at the end of the year!

If anyone is in Dublin I think Evie is the cheapest place to get it done!

    :)

    Hi,

How is everyone getting on this week? Working from home is starting to get to me although I think I have developed a fear of having to go back to the office full time! What are your thoughts on public, semi-private and private? I will be attending the coombe but finding it all confusing as it's our first. Would welcome any opinions and information anyone has.

    Thanks

Popping in from January 2021 thread, if that's ok given.you ladies are a little bit further ahead.

I'm just wondering does anybody have any bra advice? I want to get non-underwire and also need a bigger size to what I'm wearing as I'm spilling out of my normal bras. Its difficult when we cant go try on. I'd usually head for M&S, local one is Liffey Valley but dont think that'll be open for a while yet. Also a lot of their stock is out of stock. Anybody find an alternative to M&S or recommend any specific bras? I dont need nursing bars but just something comfy and supportive without wires...

I usually find Debenhams great for bras, I have quite a big chest (GG) dreading them getting bigger :(

Check out the Boob or Bust website and Facebook page, it's a superb and foolproof method of home measuring and they give great advice on brands and fit.

Do you have to go back? Saw my consultant and he advised me to work from home and he’ll write any letters if needed.

My boss wants us to go back bit by bit with reduced numbers in the office. Did your consultant say you would be best to stay at home being pregnant?

Brilliant thanks for that i will have a look at Boob or Bust.
Bit wary of buying from Debenhams with the future of the company sadly looking bleek but I will definitely have a look, i couldnt think of where else to go other than M&S. Thanks again.

I apologise if i am going slightly off topic here, i really just need to point out that ordering from debenhams seems super risky going by the comments on their official facebook page, there are complaints after complaints about orders not being received/refunds not processed, the comments are full of them.

Again, I dont mean to be inappropriate but couldnt scroll on without mentioning it, it's really bad!

Oh no, I had no idea! I had ordered at the start of the lockdown and my order arrived fine but I didn't realise things had gotten so bad! Thanks for commenting

Appreciate the heads up, i knew they were in trouble alright but hadnt seen the complaints. Best avoid, sadly.

My consultant said if I can work from home do, and he’ll write any letters I need to do that. So I suppose if I couldn’t work from home it would be different. My friend, a healthcare worker, has been told to work from home for the 3rd trimester as no patient contact allowed (they wouldn’t be covid patients etc).

Anyone got harmony results yet? My last two were a week exactly and under the week. I’m trying not to get my hopes up because I imagine with the pandemic there could be delays.

I had mine back in April as due in November and i got the results exactly a week after the test so there was no delay at all which I was surprised with. Hopefully you don’t have long to wait

Thanks! Although now I kind of wish you hadn’t told me because I can’t stop looking at my phone :-)

How is everyone getting on? I can't believe we're into June already!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭Shelli2

I'm so emotional, I'm crying ALL the time.
It has been a crazy tough year anyway, but these hormones have got me unable to hold it together.
Physically feeling good though, bump is super big already, but I was huge on my first son too.
I'm on 3 week monitoring in the Pre-term Surveillance Clinic, plus my normal clinic and GP appointments. Plus side is I get so many scans! ðŸ˜
They found an infection in my routine bloods, but I've no symptoms so they put me on an antibiotic for a week to be safe.

The year is flying. I'm dying to start shopping and prepping the babies room.

    How's everyone else doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 maisie_moo

    All good here thanks ladies.
Bump is growing. Elastic trousers/skirts are my life now. I'm not noticeably pregnant yet as Iv been into work a few times (they dont know yet) and no one would suspect I'm pregnant (probably just think Iv lockdown fat haha) but I cant fit into my jeans anymore and I'm a real skinny jeans wearer.

Had dating scan two weeks ago and I'm bang on my LMP date. Baby was moving around loads on screen. Everything normal so far (fingers crossed)
Got my anomoly scan date in the post for 21weeks. So long few weeks to wait until then as it not required that I see GP inbeween then. Suits me fine really as I happy out. I feel I'm too relaxed about my pregnancy...Iv yet to tell lots of people. My nearest and dearest know alright.

Any nausea or strong hunger I was feeling few weeks back has really settled. Also didnt see to pee during the night last night (sometimes it can be twice!)..yey!

Was looking up baby sleepsuits online the other day ...aww they're so cute. My gender is gonna be a surprise but it sure is easier knowing what you're having in relation to buying things and looking at things haha. I hope shops open soon as I'm more of a physical buyer.

My heart goes out to you Shelli..you've been on an emotional rollercoaster of a year and that's before the pregnancy hormones are added in!

I'm dying to start shopping too but same as you Masie I love rambling around the shops and browsing.

Just started telling close family this week, one of my close friends had bad news this week as well so holding off on telling the wider circle for the moment.

Had my dating scan and booking appointment this week think the scan is within 3 days of my dates.

Does anyone know how overdue they let you go in the coombe? I'm due 15th December and have had already had a couple of jokes about being in there on Christmas day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭Shelli2

We did a little shopping yesterday, really uplifting. My partner got all emotional and said it just hit home to him that there's actually a baby on the way and he's so excited now, grinning from ear to ear all day and talking to bump.
We're using my son's pram, it's an iCandy Apple, it's 13 years old but absolutely immaculate! Got it out of my mother's attic yesterday and was shocked at how perfect it still was. Before we put it into storage here we took it to Tony Kealys and bought a new born car seat that fits the system. I love it all.

Partners reaction brought home how left out he must be feeling, sitting in the car outside all my hospital visits and scans. I hope they start allowing him in soon

I’m massive, I look about 5-6 months pregnant, I’m actually embarrassed for myself! I’m also still tired and feeling a bit sick, much better than I was but not 100%. Puked for the first time only yesterday changing my 2 year olds smelly bum. Feeling a bit sorry for myself as there’s lots I want to do but I’m just so lethargic. I’m hoping for an energy boost soon.

Youv already had a baby beanybabog, I heard people show alot quicker with each pregnancy so don't be embarrassed. Embrace it, you're body is doing a wonderful thing. I can't wait to have a proper bump...I forget that I'm even pregnant at times so think the bump will make it real! Also major respect on entertaining a toddler while pregnant too. I only have myself to worry about and get tired from doing nothing. I know I'll look back and say "what used I even do with my time??"

Shelli, that's great you can reuse your buggy and you kept it in such great condition. One less thing for you to get. What else must you get? I dread the buggy shopping. I hate making decisions and I'm not a shopper at the best of times. Eek.

Becks, no idea about the Coombe but in my maternity hospital down south theyll let me go 10 days over. So if Coombe was same you could well have a Christmas day baby. Hopefully you'll have your little elf before then so you'll be home for your xmas dinner :)

Honestly not much left to get, I also still have my Armsreach Co-sleeper from my son, I'll pick up a new mattress for that.
I've an 18mth old niece, and two cousins with baby boys recently, so many hand-me-downs. ðŸ˜

I have a few treats on my Amazon wishlist, but nothing essential really.
I'd like a nursing pillow and a decent breast pump.

Shelli you're flying along, so handy being able to use the Icandy, just goes to show they really are an investment!

I'll be the same as masie, struggle to decide on a bar of chocolate in the shop nevermind big expensive decisions like buggy etc!

Fair play to you Beanybabog, I can't imagine having to look after a toddler with how tired I've been lately, try not to be too hard on yourself.

Thanks Masie, fingers crossed baby loves Christmas as much as I do and wants to be here in time haha
