Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I hope Vinales can step up this year. I genuinely think he has it in him to match Marquez pound for pound but for whatever reason he can’t put everything together on a consistent issues.

Not in the least bit surprised that happened. That HRC has looked quite loose.

And again. That one was nasty looking, and he’s hurt himself too.

I admire how he pushes it to the limit but that was one too far and I hope that's not as serious as it looks. Inevitable though and a miracle he's got this far into his career.

    Looks serious enough

Commentators talking about a potential career-ender for MM if his shoulder is gone again.

Is that likely? I know he’s done it a couple of times but no more than other riders surely?

He has nerve damage from multiple injuries/operations on that shoulder. He couldn't even lift a glass of water a few months ago.

Original prognosis now confirmed, broken right arm for Marc Marquez, operation on Tuesday.

Amazingly not ruled out of next weekends race. Bradl would be the replacement rider if required.

Nasty accident - injuries shall have a big impact on this seasons championship

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

I have a feeling that Honda will be in a bad place this season.
I could well be proved wrong, but you only have to look at the other riders riding that evil handling machine and how they are faring.
Crutchlow is being repaired as well.
Marquez could be out for a long time with that injury, I know he is like a cat and seemingly made of some rubber compound but he has had a lot of injuries over the years and this one looked particularly nasty.
On the other hand I am delighted to see Quatararo take a win, I hope we see more of him in the future and I am also glad it was a non -factory team taking a win.
Rossi's bike stopped and cut out, WTF? that was weird.
Vinales looked good but his tyre choice held him back in a big way.
All in all a great first race and I am really happy that MotoGP has finally resumed.

Hope I'm not dragging this off topic, but are the highlights available free to air anywhere?

I googled and found Quest TV had it yesterday but when isat down to watch i got Wheeler dealers ! Maybe there are different versions of Quest TV. I also came across c5 but no luck there either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,708 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Good news from Spain that Marquezs operation has been a success and there is no damage to the radial nerve.

MM hopes to return at Brno.

There will be one HRC at Jerez this weekend, Honda opting not to replace MM with Bradl which helps engine mileage.

Rins shall have a medical check on Thursday to decide if he is fit to ride.
Cals operation on his wrist is later today

Update : Cals operation has gone well and Cal will try to race this weekend

    Marquez is something else

Imagine him at the TT 135mph wouldn't be long going

If he had the road racers psyche

I think he is just unbelievable on a gp bike. he shows that year after year winning championships, saving the bike from crashes etc etc.

I dont think he would be fast in the TT or any other road race. His riding style would not suit road racing in general. He actually shared his thoughts on the TT not to long ago.

Marquez is flying to Jerez to see if he can pass a medical, that is simply unbelievable to me but these guys are a different animal to normal humans.
I would wonder even if he does pass the medical whether he is able to hold onto a 250+hp bike and brake with an arm that was flopping around just a few days ago.

I remember Lorenzo broke his collarbone on Thursday in Assen, flew to Spain the same day, was operated on Friday morning and flew back to Assen in the afternoon. Rode in the race on Sunday and finished fifth!

    They really are different animals.

I know they are a different kind of human but at some stage someone should pull him aside and say take the time to heal. i saw pictures of him in a full cast. he is a young guy with shoulder problems already. at some stage he should take time to heal.

regarding MM - 'health is your wealth' is not something he understands or appreciates. How doctors could declare him fit is beyond me.

And then do you remember him falling off again and bending the plate holding him together?
He took a while to come back after that one IIRC.

It’s unreal that he is attempting to be back so soon.

    Regarding Lorenzo,
    Isn’t a plate a plate?
I presume the plate is stronger than bone and that you can crash anytime and bend them, just so happened for Lorenzo it was the next race I think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

Its pretty common for plates to bend if the bone hasn't knitted.
Bone is stronger than a plate, the plate is screwed into the bone so the ends of the bone are held together so they can heal, if the bone hasn't healed like Marquez,Lorenzo and Hayden in 2006 then if you crash the plate bends and the bone either rubs off the other one which is painful and risks further infection or sits at a bad angle so the bone is a funny shape and you may have mobility issues.
Hayden rode the whole 2006 season with a bent plate so the medical staff wouldn't prevent him from competing.
It worked he won the WC.

Marc Marquez back on track for FP3 ,Cal also on track but Rins is not running in FP3 .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,137 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Wanted to post but site was funky but yeah Marc sat out FP1 & FP2 but looking at the times the other two did post Rins and Crutchlow are badly off pace. Probably should have just subbed in Guintoli and Bradl for them.

Cal was faster than Bradley albeit a second of the front runners - Rins was only 2 seconds off but in a lot of pain.

WC going to be tight this year and no rider wants to miss a race.
MM doing decent one lap times - longevity questionable.

Looking forward to quali - find out the true pace of the KTMS

If Marc is not going to miss any races then I don't think it will be a close championship at all. He's so far ahead of everyone else on the grid and well on his way to being the goat. FQ is good and has great potential, but he's no MM.

I don't for a second wish Marc ill will but I did see him being out for a couple of events as being a big positive for this years championship.

He abandoned qualifying 1 so he may not race this weekend. In my opinion he should skip this weekend and they are not racing next weekend. That's a lot more healing time. If he raced this weekend and got no points, which is very possible, then it was for nothing.

Yea judging by the amount of swelling on his arm as he left the motorhome there now, I'd say he's called it a day as far as this weekend in concerned.

Yamaha looking good. Could be a close race tomorrow.

Edit: MM officially out of tomorrows race.

Was far too ambitious. Shocking he was "cleared" in the first place.

FQ is going to be MM biggest threat in future years - his performance on a satellite Yamaha in '19 was sensational.

Brno & Austria are Ducati circuits so Dovi and Co will be to the forefront and will give the Yams and MM a tough time.

MMs arm looked very swollen on those BT pictures.

Why was it shocking ? MM underwent rigorous tests on the injuries and was medically cleared by Doctors.

Come on they cant have been that rigourous. He managed 17 full laps this weekend skipping 2 FP's entirely before officially giving up, and just LOOK at the arm.

    4. Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

I doubt it was solely down to the arm, Yes that was the worst injury but I am sure a 160k get off will do more damage to the body.
Its possibly what we can't see that is more troublesome to him.

Apparently Marc was upset because thats the most consecutive race starts record out of reach now. Was on 127. Dovi on 21. Rossi did 170.

Marc said he suddenly felt a complete loss of power in his arm when he was readying himself for another run. He was simply not fit enough to ride this weekend.

Gutted for Pecco - next 3 races are Ducati circuits - Yamaha must be concerned about those engines.

Lin Jarvis just gave a very interesting interview on BT where he was pointing the finger in part at the Japanese being unwilling to make the changes Rossi wanted.Also.interesting to hear him comment that Dovi underperformed this weekend.
