    Two man haters

Even for a radio thread, that's a pretty daft comment.

"When I was five years old I dreamt of sitting the leaving cert".

Honestly if you're going to push your "wholesome integrated migrant" story on us, you should at least make the story believable.
    What's not believable?

For the benefit of other users, since you haven't bothered to say, that young woman was 5 years of age in 2006 when she was living in a Direct Provision Centre. She would have had no real stability in her life, and it's entirely credible that she would have had the dream, from that age, of finishing secondary school and going to University.

She's now doing that as a student at NUIG. I don't see why you feel the need to belittle her.

    Because she was 5.
    She was 5 years old.
I dont know any 5 year old that know all the details about the leaving cert and university.
It's complete rubbish. It's not credible at all.
No five year old thinks about finishing school in 14 years.

You don't think 5-year-olds know about finishing school and going to college?

Of course 5-year-olds with older siblings and relatives know about that.

She's now about 18 years of age, and has more good sense in her head and courtesy in her manner than some people who are much older, so I wouldn't struggle for a moment to believe it.

Heard Ray interview Claudia Keane (Robbie's missus) during the week.

Towards the end of the interview it transpired that Claudia is a "Spar Ambassador" and was simply being interviewed to promote Spar.

    How do RTE allow this?

I was very surprised to hear that the show was coming back, especially given the circumstances that you describe. The only conclusion that I can come to is that they simply had nothing better to replace it with. I saw the promo and their offering for next season really is underwhelming.

I wonder is farcy squirming in his seat knowing what 1/8 of his extortionate wages could do for that family .

I was listening to this in the car and thinking the same thing. Complaining with the family about there being no money available to them when he is taking far too much himself from the same pie. Shameful hypocrisy, particularly from him who used to complain about the RTE wages when he was on the other channel.

You're a good man for the hypocrisy yourself Ray. Remember how you used to give out about RTE wages, or when you said you would leave the country if Enda Kenny was elected.

"Hold up a potato and gies what breed it is" games and features that rely purely on being seen need to be prohibited on radio. A transition year work experience producer wouldnt let it happen.

Ray is mad to reveal the price before they do it on "de telly".

So all Irish people think all black people are lazy .

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭jeremyj1968

I think it is disgraceful that people are treated like they are lesser humans because they look different and speak a different language.....

And I think it's an even bigger disgrace that RTE have allowed Ray D'Arcy to treat the Nuacht team such a manner. *boom boom* :pac:

I dont do Twitter, dont even know how it works, but did I hear farcy calling himself 'radio ray' on the Twitter thingy today ?. Whad a dipstick

When Ray said that he'd love to run around Ireland for a year & write a book about it I laughed....

Then he said that he'd have to win the Lotto to give up work for a year I was roaring laughing!!

He is the most complete hypocrite I have ever seen.
He said he would leave Ireland if Enda got elected
He hated the huge wages RTE staff were on, we know how that went
He hates gambling but had the Davy Russell after he won the National

He is a national embarrassment, I hope for the licence paying public he gets the boot

Jeez there's awful hatred for the man here. You would swear he was Ireland's biggest criminal. Behind the personality we see and hear there is a husband, father, brother and son. For all that he talks about himself we probably only know a smidgen of him.

In fairness if you or I got his opportunities in life would we turn down the € on the moral that others get paid a lot less?? Come on.

Of course there is hatred, the guy is stealing a living off the licence payers. I was that guy once in a great paying job, but after a few months I knew I couldn't cut the mustard, and without embarrassing myself or letting the team down I knew my place to move on. Mr Darcy knows he is bulletproof so he just going through the motions and picking up his check for doing a really **** job.
He should be put to a night time shift, and give Derek Mooney his proper slot

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,914 ✭✭✭glenfieldman

RTE are all about keeping jobs in the family and not losing face.
Dee Forbes will never fire or demote Darcy because that was one of her first high profile signing, If he lost his show that would be a kick in the face for her.
Unlike Today FM, who publicly fired Muireann O'Connell from the afternoon show to be replaced with Darcys sidekick Mairead Ronan, which they will regret in time
At least Today FM had the balls to change presenters, RTE management dont have that.
They will have Duffy, Darcy, Marian, and Tubs, the four most over paid people in the country until they die

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭jeremyj1968

He was giving out one day about how "RTE should have more women presenters" but the gender balance did not seem to be an issue for him when applying for Mooney's job. He was giving out about RTE wages when he worked in private industry, and then took those same ridiculous wages himself when he moved. He was pontificating yesterday about how all human beings should be treated the same, when he treats the Nuacht staff like something he wiped off his shoe. If he actually said "I'm just doing a job for the money" then that would be fine. But it's the fact that he tries to ram ideals that he DOES NOT EVEN ADHERE TO HIMSELF down the listener's throats - that is what makes him unbearable.

Nothing like a good rant to start the day. I'm a bit pumped up now, I think I'll ring one of our suppliers for a row.

Oh and with Darcy it's, "what froosh have you in a froosh bowl"
he does that exchange of -t for -sh at the end of words that drives me bananas!

He's not really ramming anything into people's throats -- or ears, for that matter.

Very occasionally, I'll listen to Ray D'Arcy, or search YouTube for a clip from his TV show (eg that awful TV interview with the lawyer from Making a Murderer) just to join the cringe-party.

There's a good reason why we have a rule here against saying If you don't like it change the channel' -- that's an unreasonable demand to make where negative and positive criticisms are equally welcome.

But it's also Completely Daft to claim that anything is being rammed down people's throats against our will.

Did you hear the bit where he was on about how it would be great to be able to fly a plane? Must have been in the first ten minutes, I don't think I've ever gotten past 15:10.

Imagine that fella in charge of a Boeing 737. He can't even handle the few buttons on his own desk with any competence, after almost 30 years in broadcast media.

"She thanked staff for "all their efforts across the summer"

Someone tell her that Joe Duffy has had 39 days off this year to date -- that amounts to working only 1.25 hours per day, over a 4-day week, for a salary in the region of 400k.

    Effort?

RTE Radio 1 Drivetime presenter Mary Wilson was tenth highest paid in 2016 with earnings of €185,679.

In 2015 Nicky Byrne, who hosts the Nicky Byrne Show with Jenny Green on 2FM, was eighth highest paid, earning €200,583. That year he also presented the short lived National Lottery game show, but he does not feature in the top ten in 2016.

Mary Wilson would be one of the lesser obscenely paid presenters. I can take or leave her but I'll say this. She did the courts and would have a good legal brain. She's an experienced journalist and can carry a live show.

Nicky Byrne plays songs from a pre-prepared list and gets more.
