I'm not 100% sure, but I think we might have played off white/competition tees once or twice, maybe for the likes of captains, but generally its off the society tees

Benny will confirm but I think we settled on white

I might be mistaken, but I think a lot of courses expect societies to play off society tees to reduce the wear and tear on other tee boxes.

It's been society tees for most every event I have played in, IF the course offers them.

I reckon you can trust Golfgraffix on this one...hes got insider knowledge :D

We generally play whites unless the club dictate otherwise. All depends on the course though. Sometimes societies are just the better option.

I took advantage of the spring rates at Portmarnock today, the course is in good shape except for 13 where a temporary green is in place. From the looks of things I wouldn't expect that to change by Saturday. It played dead into the wind today, so even 100 yards shorter it took 3 shots to get to the temporary green. Greens were pristine on every other hole, and deadly fast.

Excited to kick off the season next week! Here is a little video I took from today

    Also, got a nice rainbow

Been a while since I've played there, can I check what warm up facilities are onsite?

Right Folks we seem to have a bit of a issue as I was doing the timesheet out I noticed 29 have accepted on teamer but we only have 28 slots!

So before I have to let someone down can I just please ask that you are all committed to going Saturday 100% and if you are unsure please could you unaccept on teamer and let us know by PM.

As I would hate to have to inform someone that I have no room for them and for someone not to show on the day as you can imagine!

I will leave it to Wednesday afternoon and hopefully it works itself out.

    Regards

    Benny.

So would Kinsealy be the closest range to the place, if you wanted to hit a small bucket of full length shots?

Another close enough to Portmarnock is the Halpenny Driving Range at the entrance to Dublin Airport. You can hit off turf or mats and also has putting and chipping greens.

I'm going to have to do a last minute drop out myself now lads.

Just got a shout from Club Captain to say that our team jumped up the leaderboard on the final weekend & picked up the last automatic qualifier spot for the Winter League final on Saturday.

Its matchplay & the first real major of the year. I've never actually been on a team that qualified for it, so think I'll have to play at home instead.

Am gutted that they're clashing, was really looking forward to getting out to Portmarnock & seeing all the crew. Its a class course & should be a great day (plus a bit of links practice before St Andrews would have been a major bonus).

Will change my status on Teamer to declined to confirm it on the system. Sorry for the late notice Captain, will have to catch you at the next outing.

Anyone played the course recently? How's it holding up? If it's as windy as it was last Sunday, it'll be a bloody nightmare to play i'd say.

Its playing quite easy at the moment, there is no real rough to speak of. The course is 125 yards short due to the 13th green being under construction.

Saturday will be a bit windy, with gusts up to 51 km/h but no rain forecast as of today.

Are there changing rooms/showers available on the day?

Played in November. Agree very little rough to speak of on some holes. You could get away with murder.

I think it was the sixth I had the least deserved bogie ever. Wild slice of the tee. Hooked two hybrid from the wrong fairway. Somehow found easily it on top of a hill, followed up with massively mi**** wedge, then a jigger out of the rough for a tap in bogey. I felt so embarrased

Class showers and changing facilities with towels provided. What you would expect of a top 20 ranked course

Don’t let the low rough fool you, it’s still a tough course!

Don’t get me wrong. I only had 22 points!! Putting it down to bad day!!

The greens were very tricky. Considering my home course was running at 10 today

Met Eireann now is forecasting the wind to start to calm a little around tee times and throughout the afternoon, but now also forecasting some possible rain to start then.

Well done to all. No surprise to see Golfgraffix take advantage of the home course for the win today and claim his (second?) Boards win? I guess the only surprise is that he didn't win either of the previous 2 outings in the Port :)

What a day Capt Benny, just hope you haven’t set the bar too high for yourself.
While the golf in our group only sparkled sporadically, the company with Offaly med, Charlie and Slave made for a great day.
Thanks to all for the work behind the scenes, again.

Raging I missed the game today but I had a nice treat on the golf course as a spectator today as a consolation.

Alas those cruel golfing Gods deserted me yesterday but still had a bit of craic with my group and was nice to play hole 18 in the first of 2019’s genuine sunshine.
Having not played the course before I was impressed with the Summer conditions, I knew it was going to be fun when I dropped two balls on the putting green and they rolled 10ft away. I’d like more shape to the opening stretch as it felt a bit rinse and repeat versus the remainder of the course which was continually peppered with hole variety which I prefer. Think 16, 17 and 18 were super holes to close the course out with. Back to plugging balls parkland now for a while longer....
Well done to the winners and hope all enjoyed, always great to get around dry

Well done to Golfgraffix on the win & to the captain for what sounds like a great opener to the year.

Have to console myself with the fact that my team won the matchplay final of the winter league at home.

So my match 2 up so made a bit of a contribution to it.

Hopefully catch up with everyone in Athy

Really enjoyed yesterday, great course, great company and some great golf.
Hadn’t a great round myself, started ok but the usual inconsistent golf came back. Had a few pars but too many scratches cost me a score. Still, I enjoyed it and isn’t that what it’s all supposed to be about.
