Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Chocolate.

    Chocolate is the one item that should NEVER be included in a fry.

    Because it ruins the perfectly good chocolate.

    Apparently there's rumours of a sighting of the once discontinued Fry's chocolate orange bar in a pound shop in Wolverhampton (the Poundland shop). Dealz is also Poundland afaik. So if they're nationwide....well let's just say that there'll be a Fry chocolate orgy, my last one circa 2013 at a newsagents in Carlisle.

    Lard was only mentioned once in the thread which is a shame. It is an integral part of the meal. Proper fried bread is buttered bread fried in lard, and then buttered again. Lots of butter.

    I took it as read that any reference to fried breads of any variety were rendered to such a state by the use of lard. Only a moron or foreigner would suggest frying bread in anything else.

    Yes and No. Lard is Pig fat and Dripping is Beef fat. Make your own by melting down suet from the butchers and skimming off the lard/dripping.

    I now avoid a full irish when out because the last few times I got one the black and white pudding tasted of mould. All different venues in dublin. Do they pre slice pudding days and weeks in advance? I've had Clonakilty Black pudding in my fridge for weeks and aside from being dry at the end it was fine. The last 4 or 5 times I had a full Irish in a cafe or restaurant, I got that same mouldy taste.

    No mushrooms for me. No tomato for me. No beans for me. A full Irish for me is sausages, bacon, fried egg, black and white pudding and tea. Toast optional.

    Ethically sourced? I'm fascinated as to how that might happen. Like volunteered? A quick daily draining? Sourced from animals that have offered up their bodies to science? Gathered from vets after non-fatal operations on animals?(* ugh gotta stop thinking about this- feeling a bit queasy now)

    For those saying no to tomatoes in a fry, you don't have to cook them. Cut them up into fine slices, then salt and pepper them, drizzle with a little olive oil and then garniai with basil and voila.

    Beans are the cornerstone of good fry up.

    Mushrooms and tomatoes can f*ck off. Beans are savage though

    Beans don't belong in an Irish fry, and are also the only thing that can ruin the whole breakfast. Anything else you don't like can be pushed to the side, but bean juice permeates everything.

    If you buy a decent one it's delicious. There are no breadcrumbs in them and certainly no meat. Pork blood, pork fat, or sometimes beef suet, and a cereal, preferably oatmeal, and some oat groats plus seasoning is all that's in it.

    My grandmother used to make her own whenever the family slaughtered a pig.

    I’ve had a range of different kinds. Seriously, from supermarket pudding to dishes containing it in fancy restaurants. Whatever the ingredients, not one have I liked. I simply don’t like black pudding. And oats are another foodstuff are generally not for me. So mentioning that it contains oats only underlines my dislike really. Some people (in real life) have almost got offended when I say I don’t like pudding. I don’t know why. Am I supposed to like the stuff because it’s traditionally Irish?

    You're not supposed to like anything. It's personal choice or taste. I don't think anybody said if was obligatory for citizenship.

    For me the big no-no's would be tomato, mushroom and beans.....beans are the worst, the sauce gets into everything.

    The other big no-no is when it doesn't come with bread or toast.

    No beans in my fry, thank you. This is not negotiable. Baked beans are pleasant enough on toast or, occasionally, with sausage-chip-'n'-puddin' or similar, but not in a breakfast fry. I'm not too gone one tomatoes at breakfast either, but Woman likes them and I am prepared to give her that one. :D

    Clonakilty have upped their black pudding game significantly in recent years after some time in the doldrums, fair play. This weather Oi arr mostly liking Shaw's and Rudd's - the latter has an unusually smooth, almost runny, sort of texture as black puddings go. Denny and Galtee "pudding" are for scutterin' gobsheens and Americans who are so out of it they think cheese-like-substance from a toothpaste tube is a good idea. Fuck 'em. :cool:
