Learner licence (so lazy) going on to my 2nd year

    €440 fully comp.

Now usually ppl will leave out some info about their quote, but I don't remember one before when someone left out which BIKE it was! :p

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

Mod Note: Can everyone please include all details from the quote as the type of bike can hugely affect the price. Also don't forget the Insurance Company so we know who's providing the best quotes

    No Claims Bonus: 2
    Policy & Cover: TPFT
    Price: 282

I rang and asked could I add a bike mid policy if I wanted, she said well first things first what bike would you like to add, I said a gsxr 750 k6/k7 and she went and checked and said no can do until I'm 25 even with the A license. She said it would be the same for any of the similar 600s, r6 gsxr 600 etc. all group 38 risk and zenith wouldn't do it before I was 25. She said try MCE but liberty wouldn't insure me either she reckoned.

That answers that so about what bike to move to come A license.

So I recently sold the blade and bought a Hyperstrada. Its a much less powerful bike and so I expected my insurance to go down. I had a claim from 5 years ago when my 749 was stolen, but now that is wiped clean I was expecting a much cheaper price. I think I paid about 600 last year (fireblade and still a claim) but instead of it going down - they upped the quote to €800!! FFS... Anyway I called around and then called them back and argued, they did the usual bull**** of pretending to talk to the underwriter etc, finally got it for €420. I was hoping for more but its the best they can do. I park in an underground car park and they said if I had it in a private garage they could be down towards €300 - good to know.

    Company: Carole Nash
    Bike & CC: Ducati Hyperstrada 821cc & BMW k100, 1000cc
    Age: 37
    Licence: Full Clean
    No Claims Bonus: 10
    Policy & Cover: Fully Comp
    Price: €420

Went from Fireblade to MT10, Fireblade was around 1000 fully comp with liberty.

    Garaged and ~ commute mileage.

    Company: Carole Nash
    Bike & CC: Yamaha MT10 162
    Age: 30
    Licence: Full Clean
    No Claims Bonus: 3
    Policy & Cover: Fully Comp
    Price: €970

MCN never answered the phone. Liberty were mad money and principal wouldn't insure the bike at all, not me but THE BIKE(MT10) and nor would AXA

Its a bit to high to be honest. but there literally was no other viable option.

    Company: Carole Nash
    Bike & CC: Suzuki Bandit 600CC (2002)
    Age: 25
    Licence: Provisional
No Claims Bonus: 1 Years NCB
Policy & Cover: 3rd Party with Personal Accident Extra
    Price: €430

Original renewal quote of €470, and reduced by €40 after haggling.
Last years price with same details and 0 NCD was €530.
Happy enough as all in with tax included it's €520.

    Company: CN
Bike & CC: Triumph Sprint ST 955
    Age: 47
    Licence: Full A >20 years
No Claims Bonus: They have it down as 12 or 14 but in reality it's 23...
Policy & Cover: Comp incl commuting and pillion
    Location: Dublin, garaged
Price: 326 (same as last year)

Liberty wanted 390 without pillion cover or legal cover which CN include.

    Company: Principal
    Bike & CC: 2010 VFR1200
    Age: 46
    Licence: Full 16+ years
No Claims Bonus: Full (9+ years)
Policy & Cover: Comp + other bikes (TF&T)
    Price: €319

Was happy enough with that and renewed last week, but am currently hoping to migrate to an MT09-Tracer. They won't insure me on the tracer though as it's not garaged (kept in back garden) and value is over €7k. Seems crazy as they had no problem insuring me on the VFR two weeks ago when it's value was €9,999 (recently dropped value to a more realistic €6.5k). Well, if they don't it's their loss as there are a number of other insurers who will and I'm still in my 14 day cooling off period.

So Carole Nash, Liberty and AXA are the best alternatives?

Haven't renewed it yet, will ring around a bit first but I don't expect it to be much less with anyone else.

    Age 52
    Licence full
    NCB 15 years
    Location Cork
Policy & cover Fully comp inc pillion, breakdown, legal etc.
    Price 269

Renewal quote was 320, rang around and principal quoted 268. Rang CN back and they matched it. €50 saved by a phone call. Principal were insisting on garaged but CN policy included driveway, which is good as I sometimes don't bring it down the awkward side access to the garage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,882 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

worth it not having the garaged thing. Means if the bike is stolen from even the garage there won't be half as much messing proving it was actually locked in there etc.

Just renewed with current insurer as the price was ok by me and inertia (lazy). Paid on the 50/50 (50% now, 50% next month) at no extra.

    Underwriter: Zenith
    Age: 44
    Licence: Full / 24 yrs
    NCD: 2yr / 30%
    Excess (compulsory/voluntary): €300 / €0
Cover: TPF&T inc commuting, pillion cover & riding other bikes TPO
    Mileage: 10k
    Benefits: Legal and breakdown
    Price: €241

Had the same experience. Principal's underwriter are insisting that anything over €7k has to be garaged. With CN price-matching and under-cutting by €10, Principal are going to lose a chunk of customers to CN.

Bike & CC: Honda MSX125 (Grom)
    Age: 26
    Licence: Learner A - 2 years
    No Claims Bonus: 0
    Policy & Cover: TPFT
    Price: 992 with Liberty

Carole Nash wouldn't quote it because it's apparently on some list of bikes that requires you to have 2 years NCB. Still have to try Principal and MCE, but it's not looking like my idea of having a Grom as a nice cheap runaround might not be viable. I definitely won't pay €1000 for a 125

Edit: Principal quoted €641 for TPFT. A good bit better, looks like the grom gets a pretty heavy loading compared to other 125s

Insurance companies are great craic hahahaha
Just called Carol Nash to add a CBR 600 F4 2001 to my policy which I currently have the VFR covered on.

Said they do multi-bike so happy days, after a call where I was asked at least 3 times if there was an alarm on the bike , I was told it would cost 51.04, no problem I said then she said 45 of that was a broker fee for updating policy during the year :eek::eek:.

We are in the wrong game lads hahahaha

    Got a multibike quote from Principal, 3 bikes NX650, NT650V and a MSX125, 380 for Full Comp.
100 more than last year which is a big enough jump to add the MSX125 I feel.

Insured the MSX125 as your main bike. I did this with adalaide when I had my Street Glide and it worked out at €220 fully comp for both.
