Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Its a Stowa Flieger Classic no date, no logo. Grail for years and years being an "affordables" kind of watch guy couldnt bring myselef to splash the cash. Eventually sold a few that were not getting wrist time and finally convinced myself to pull the trigger on one last year.

Lovely, it's my next purchase I would say. I've been looking at Archimede no date/no logo similar to that as it's a bit more affordable than the Stowa. Nice collection, love the OVM as well.

Would like to add a speedy to the collection some day. Any time I get close to it, i think what kind of holiday or experience i can get for myself and my better half and its usually a much better way to spend the money.

It is for this and similar reasons that my collection remains within the seiko to Steinhart range

How do you like the alpinist? Is something that I find myself looking at a lot.

Details on the Black Bay homage, fret?

It was a beautiful watch, a modified seiko, based on the rock solid skx007, modified by dagaz(Jake duarte) with a Murphy coin edge bezel, custom face, aluminium chapter ring, custom bezel insert and domed crystal.

Nice watch but when I looked at it, I always would think how could I upgrade to a real black Bay, and once I realized that, it's days were numbered.

Any watches I have are in the collection because I like them for what they are, and not as a stop gap until I get "the real thing", whatever I think that might be.

Which one!? There's the sarb017, on the leather strap that's the classic seiko alpinist. That watch is worth many times its price. Face is just beautifully detailed, raised gold seiko logo and numerals, deep emerald green color that changes and shimmers as it moves, very detailed polished case that is just the right size at 38mm and a 200m water resistance rating so you can trust it if you get caught in the rain.

The internal Bezel is well made also. I've played with a few internal Bezel watches and the Bezel felt lose and and inaccurate, but there is zero play in this one, the tiniest turn of the Bezel crown will adjust the position of the internal Bezel, tight precise engineering the way it should be.

The other alpinist is the one on the metal bracelet, a sarb059, it's a skx case, but finished to a much higher standard, some parts brushed, some polished and thr brushing is beautifully done. Also has a nicer crown engraved with the seiko "s". Face looks black but in the right light it's a deep green, amazing when you notice it but didn't expect it. Has a 6r15 movement, seikos upper level workhorse for the past few years. Bezel is BI directional non ratcheting type.

It's semi dressy, works with with a shirt and tie as a desk diver, but is 200m rated so is also trustworthy if out in the elements.

This was my first "expensive" watch(I had just started working and earning very very little). My better half helped me get it, as an engagement present.

Timekeeping wise they are all more than accurate for me. I never tested them, but they are never out more than a minute or so,based on real world usage.
If I wanted to the second accuracy I'd by a 10 euro Casio.

And individually in rough order of preference.........

    1) Omega AT "Skyfall" 38.5mm. In collection 4 years I think. Oozes class IMO. Very versatile. I almost sold this 2 years ago.....so glad i didn't. Got a nice Omega blue strap for it and never looked back.

    IMG-1610.jpg

    2) Patek 5167. Under the radar to 99.9% of the public. Incredible depth and finishing to this piece. In collection 6 months.

    IMG-1608.jpg

    3) Rolex BLNR. Great watch but a little more recognizable than I prefer. The only watch I ever bought from new from an AD. In collection 18 months

    IMG-1613.jpg

    4) Omega Sea master Planet Ocean 42mm 2500C. Almost sold this too! Now it looks great on Omega Nato. I have this 7 years.

    IMG-1623.jpg

    5) Stowa Antea Creme. I think i have this just over 2 years. I also had the version with the blue hand but a friend wanted it desperately so I passed it on.

    IMG-1606.jpg
    free image hosting

    6) Tag Heuer Monaco CAW211C. 6month in my collection. This is the only piece I have up for sale. Wearing it tonight though and wondering if I really want to sell.....

    IMG-1609.jpg

    7) VC overseas 42040. Only at number 7 as its only a few weeks in my position and I am still figuring it it is here to stay or not.

    IMG-1614.jpg

Where to next? No where unless I move the Monaco. On a watch buying ban this year but watches on the list include the below in no order:

    1) Rolex Hulk
    2) Rolex Yachtmaster 42
    3) JLC ultra thin Moon
    4) Glashutte Panoreserve (Blue or grey)
    5) Blue faced Monaco

My SOTC, seriously outclassed by others on here but you have to start somewhere :)

    Again, in order of preference:
    1) Seiko SKX009J - Big and bulky but I seem to wear it a lot due to durability
    2) Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch - Lovely watch, doesn't get as much wrist time as it deserves
    3) Casio F-91W - Love this watch, currently my morning alarm clock
    4) Steinhart OVM - Very easy to wear, might sell to make way for something nicer at some point
    5) Garmin 735XT - Training watch
    6) Seiko SNZF17 Sea Urchin - Not a fan of this, it's okay but not a favourite by any stretch

Will get a pic up shortly.

Whats next? Cant afford much but on my bucket list are:
    - Rolex Explorer 1 39mm 214270
    - Rolex Submariner ND (possibly a two-tone way into the future!)
    - Tudor Black Bay
    - Rolex BLNR

Mine are in various places hidden from my wife and ones in Boston which I'm hoping to meet in about three weeks time :)

Steinhart ocean vintage gmt 40th birthday present
Omega Aqua Terra skyfall (at friends in Boston)
Casio b5000 all metal g shock silver
    Bulova Moonwatch
Stowa marine classic 40mm manual wind
Armani watch from my 30th birthday present..

I do have a box so should put them in and take a picture!

    I've got:
Seiko SKX009 - gets a lot of wear and perfect everyday watch

Omega Genève 131.019SP 1969 vintage dress watch - main formal wear watch, love this one

Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SRPB43J1 - this is
new but I could see it getting a lot of wear

Longines HydroConquest Chronograph quartz L36904536 - doesn't get a lot of wear and might sell. Not a great fan of chronos tbh and won't get another one. Originally wanted the blue auto HydroConquest which I'd still like but got a deal on this

Seiko Neo Classic SRP705K1 - wear a bit and like having a brown strap / white face watch in the collection but could find itself gone if I was to go to one in one out. Longines Master Collection could replace this at one point

Not sure really where to go next - I've built this up over the last year or so. Have my eye on a Tag Heuer Carrera which would need to replace the Longines I'd say. Could always be tempted by a Rolex or Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra and like a few random pieces by Nomos, Mondaine and IWC. I'll add a max of one over the next 12 months and anything else will be something I see in the bargain thread on here and probably replace something I have at the moment.

There seems to be a few of the Explorer 2s floating around at ADs in the UK. Big watch at 42mm. Would you consider the older model with the 40mm size? Only down side is they have the awful clap that has put me off so many of the older Rolex.

Put me off the 36mm Explorer even though I love that watch :(

Wouldn’t consider older 40 mm model.
Gonna try and hold out for a sub. Was in Belfast other day and tried on a second hand Hulk, it looked terrible on me plus the guy was looking for £4000 over retail.
Tried on black bezel sub looked way better on me, more understated looks better I think.

Explorer 2 black face may look a little too “busy” also but I didn’t get a chance to try one. AD’s in Ireland have no stock and waiting lists are the name of the game. One dealer told me I had to have a “ relationship “ with them before they’d even consider putting me on a list.

    Hi,

    I love watches and Horology.

    Current collection highlights:

Omega Aquaterra 2500 (first "good" watch)
Omega Planet Ocean 2500 42mm (added when they were discontinued. Always liked them a lot and potentially a future classic)
Certina Waterking (my Grandad's retirement watch)
Grand Seiko SBGX063 (Thermo- compensated 9F quartz engine. My wedding watch)
Grand Seiko SBGA211 (Spring drive. "The Snowflake). 40th birthday present to myself. Extraordinary watch. A collection killer)
Seiko SBDX001 MM300. (I love this watch - my first higher end Seiko).
    Seiko SBBN015 (Tuna. My beater if I don't wear a G Shock)
G Shock GWN Q1000 (Gulfmaster. I just found the function set very cool. Got it for a steal from Casio outlet. Added the bracelet and now I love it. You can use the backlight as a torch.)
G shock GW 5000 (nostalgia buzz. Added bullbars to it. Another great beater. I love the looks and it's uncompromising throwback construction - screwback - G shock fans will know what I mean).
G Shoch GW 9400 (Rangeman. Another great digital watch. I especially like this when I cook. I do a lot of BBQ - my green egg is another obsession - and the easy to press buttons and 000 hour stopwatch and 24 hrs Countdown Timer are very handy. Also you can see actual time in all modes - the G Shock grail lol. The one button press to start the stopwatch should be a function on all digital watches.)

I think that's most of the interesting ones.

    Trying to post some pics.

As in Sexual :) Seems like thats what they will be expecting soon if not already.

I read on some American fourm some sado' s tips for getting a Sub or a Daytona can't remember. But it was things like dropping in a box of chocolates to the staff once or twice a month as well as inviting them out to dinner.

    Come on like.

Though this would be a more appropriate forum for a collection. Its coming along nicely. Took some photos of them together before they went off to the vault.

    gnor3gLh.jpg

I am very Rolex heavy, why? basically because I dont like losing money and they are very fine and robust and waterproof watches. Maybe I lack imagination, also :D. I am more into unusual models and interesting dials. I have had a GMT master and it didnt really float my boat too plain in the dial.

    So current Collection:

    1. Rolex Milgauss GV black dial - sold this watch and bought it back, maybe my favourite watch. Very interesting dial, wish it had a date and cyclops but it does have a very clean look. Purchased used, then sold, then purchased used again. This one is a 2010 full set.

    2. 31mm Two tone Datejust - Mrs. Fitzgemes watch - its her one and done. New from AD a few years ago. Full set.

    3. Daytona 116509 - my F off watch. You either know what this is or not. Rare dial on this one and the rarest of the 6 digit Daytonas. Weighs a ton on the wrist. Problem with this watch is that legibility is not fantastic, but who cares, its a solid gold Daytona. Purchased used and needing a new bezel. Was serviced by Rolex so I have service papers now and its in mint condition.

    4. Datejust 41mm with romans and blue dial. A nice dressy watch, the fluted bezel really is nice and the size is great. Purchased new from AD. Wearing this a lot. I feel this will depreciate a bit although second hand prices are strong at the moment.

    5. Seiko SKX, basic SKX009 with a strapcode bracelet with solid end links. A nice watch, little too thick for me but good as a beater and the reminds me not to buy watches I will not wear. I dont really understand the idea of a beater anyway. If you using a watch in an environment where its likely to get damaged just dont wear a watch. Its a shame to damage any watch. They are man jewelry after all.

My plans...I am on a list for a Skydweller SS with blue dial. If I get that I will flip the DJ 41 as they are similar looking. I would like an Omega Moonwatch (896bet you selling?) I would like a seamaster 300 pro too. Also a JLC Master Control or master calendar.

    Its an illness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,148 ✭✭✭893bet

    A lovely collection!

Skydweller blue is an amazing piece. They are big watches. I tried on a two tone somewhere. They wear big!

Speedmaster not moving currently! I also have a friend eyeing it up! Need to get a bond nato!

The Milgauss is an interesting one for me. I'm a fan of the styling of both the blue and blacked dialled current versions, but the second hand is something I just can't seem to get on board with.

I'm sure it's something I could overcome without much trouble if I had the disposable income to pick one up.

I've a Bond nato somewhere about the place 8. I think it's a 20mm. I'll have a look manana, if it's the right size for you I can fire it off in the post. I reckon I only wore it maybe once, or twice.

I do like the Milgauss myself. I love the seconds hand too. And the green hint of a tint. Of all the current steel Rollies that would defo be the one for me.* The two tone Datejust is a nice ladies watch too, though I'm more a Tank style for the ladies and dammit they'll wear it. :D I gifted an ex of mine an WW2 issued Zenith DH because she put her eye on it. It did suit funny enough. Smaller size, but not tiny(35mm IIRC) and she was teeny of frame so looked slightly "oversized". I was in lust and figured sure lookit it only cost me 80 quid. DOH! Near a grand today. You can tell the watch turned out to be the larger regret. :D

*Cue FG reading this and thinking if that aesthetically challenged muppet likes it, WTF? It's going on adverts toute de suite and yes I will take a swap of a dog eaten playstation controller for it. :D

Problem I have Wibbs with the tanks in ladies size is they are quartz and I find it difficult to spend big buck on a battery watch (I know I know its stupid), just something nice about the hum of an auto at night when you lay your head on it. Also tanks tend to earn their name on the secondary market.

The Milgauss lightening bolt second hand for me is the making of the watch, its so unusual for Rolex to put any bit of flair on a non diamond watch. The flash of the GV glass from the side is so unusual. I suppose as I would class myself as a scientist, the story of the watch resonates with me. One of the few modern 6 digit 40mm Rolex still to be got under retail. Wonder what happened with the chap that found that vintage milgauss? Sounded like he was going to wipe half its value off with a indelicate service.....

If you are getting a Nato its got to be a Bark and Jack nato, I hear they are the best or the best and enhance any watch. Even the most basic, no date submariner for example would look excellent with one. ***in joke here***

I think with the moonwatch its one to own but not one I would wear, chaps seem to flip them a lot, so maybe I would be best to avoid it. That 9001 movement is one I must have and have in the collection, ticks a lot of the boxes..GMT, annual calander, date, month...and that command bezel..oh lord, and its exactly my style too.

Oxocube....tell us the story with the two tags?

I came to this forum looking for advice on a Tag. Ended up buying a Steinhart Ocean one in black. Always had a Tag Link Chrono in the back of my mind, so when I had a significant date coming up I bought the navy one.

I like the quality of this watch. I had a speedy reduced and this felt better watch (probably the size of it). Sold the speedy and bought a Longines, which I never wore. Sold the Longines and seen the grey Tag and I instantly bought it.

I like the style of the old Tag Links. For me there a pretty watch and I wouldn't be surprised if I bought the same watch in white.

Strangely enough, I never took a shine to the new model of Links.

There are a few watches that have caught my eye before I buy a white one though

Considering which of these to sell off. Nothing added yet this year.

Next will be a Speedmaster, Aqua Terra or Grand Seiko but will need one or two of these out first

Looking on this thread what I posted before, I was wrong, the speedmaster wears super well and I have worn it a lot. The orange seiko 5 is a fun watch, the ecodrive is never worn...but I am amazed by the technology. Wifes Datejust not pictured, her Tank is a recient addition. Daytona remains my favourite...closely followed by milgauss. Lets hope in 6 months the collection is still intact...strange times.

Have to say I'm a big fan of the Milgauss. I love the green tint and the orange lightning bold seconds hands. Then again I do like kinda wacky design. *FG throws milgauss up on Adverts* :D

I was lucky that fitzgeme was wearing it when he was over at mine recently and he let me try it on. Serious watch, but with a little playful wink. I like it more and more too.

Where to next? No where unless I move the Monaco. On a watch buying ban this year but watches on the list include the below in no order:

    1) Rolex Hulk
    2) Rolex Yachtmaster 42
    3) JLC ultra thin Moon
    4) Glashutte Panoreserve (Blue or grey)
    5) Blue faced Monaco
    6) Omega Speedmaster Tuesday 1

Above my collection from last April from earlier in this thread.

Blnr and the Monaco has both been moved since then. Added a speedmaster and move it on also (it’s above in FGs picture!). Added a Stowa marine and a Nomos Ahoi Atlantic.

    Future plans

Not really looking to move anything. Could let the Stowa marine go maybe, almost did two weeks ago. Not sure yet on that one. It’s a lovely watch and not a big €€€€ value percentage of the overall collection but it really punches above its weight and gets a lot of wrist time. The only manual wind piece also.
The VC gets very little wrist time (only one on bracelet...); could let it go but it is irreplaceable as they are difficult to get (sadly that doesn’t mean they are appreciating to a fortune...hard to get and in low demand!).

Looking at my previous lists of want above from last year......meh.........would certainly take a Hulk or blue Monaco if they were available at ease at the right €€ just to scratch the itch but I know they wouldn’t stay.

JLC thin moon! Most definitely. The grey faced gold version pls! Not likely though.

Firmly on the radar is an it an Alange & Sohne. Model, most likely a 3 hander saxonia or one of the plainer 1815’s. But they are all equally lovely.

Daytona remains my favourite...closely followed by milgauss. Lets hope in 6 months the collection is still intact...strange times.

    That Daytona is pretty special.

    (Too much Rolex.....)

Strange times indeed! Could be trading the Daytona for a ventilator in 3 months.

Lovely to see the F91 in that box with the Rollei.
We have one watch in common, we could do a bacon number type index for watch collections.

I think if I had that VC and Aquanaut, I would not need any more watches, they make a fantastic pairing. The VC for dress/formal and the Aquanaut as the daily.

    Great collection!

They are a stunning pair. 2 of the holy 3. There is only a single 1 watch from AP I would wear if I was to try complete a trio, that being the Blue jumbo ultra thin Royal Oak. Impossible to get.

Not sure the VC will stay ultimately. I am just anti bracelet and there are no options with this one that I can find. Nato/rubber or leather is what I like.

Considering which of these to sell off. Nothing added yet this year.

Next will be a Speedmaster, Aqua Terra or Grand Seiko but will need one or two of these out first

Keep an eye on the for sale thread. I live abroad but in normal times I'm home once a month or so.

That or one of the others could be up for the chop once things come back to normal and / or there is a big dent in my pocket from something new. Could be a few months yet I guess though!

I like this you know what you like. I have a soft spot for tags myself and would like a monnaco at some point. My collection below, A range of watches, I like different colours and dials.

Its a boggo Seiko 5 the new version, even has a display back although I would have prefered them to make it a few mm thinner than display what is a non embellished movement. You pick them up for under 200 euro most of the time https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=seiko+5+orange&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 , the standard bracelet it comes with is not great, better than the old SKX ones but still hollow feeling affair, these watches really do take a nato well.
