I've been with Eir in every conceivable variation (mobile online, mobile/landline/bb etc). The actual service has for the most part always been fine - very few times where something has been down. The issue is if something goes wrong, it's an absolute nightmare to sort through customer service.

Example recently was that my wife bought a phone on bill and they assured us int he shop the bill amount would stay the same as what she was paying previously. This of course didn't follow through on the 1st bill and it took 4 months to sort it out in total, with more 1 hour+ waiting time calls made that I'll like to even think back on.

That said, I wanted to change my package to the deal from this thread this morning and while I did spend 30 minutes waiting, I got through to someone in Cork who got our overall bill (broadband/landline/2 x mobile) down from 135 p/m to 54 p/m in about 5 minutes. So something may be changing.

Has anyone with Eir or who has been with Eir for mobile only had issues with customer service?
I'm currently on Vodafone Student PAUG and dont want to leave it if Eir are truly as bad as people are saying.

I was with Meteor (owned by Eir, just before they rolled them into one) , so presume it was the same "customer service".
They unilaterally changed the terms of my contract and increased the price, repeatedly failed to show any justification for the price increase, claimed they didn't have a copy of my contract, overcharged me for 6 months while dispute was ongoing. Eventually I cancelled the DD (confirmed in writing with them before and after that I was cancelling it and why) and paid correct amount manually every month - 3 months later they set up a new DD mandate without my permission, had to blacklist them with my bank to prevent them doing it again.

They fleeced me before on a landline too, charged me a connection fee which wasn't due, after telling me it wouldn't apply before I signed up. Then threatened to sue me for a disconnection fee if I didn't pay up.

If they were my only option I'd get two tin cans and a piece of string instead. Avoid them like the plague.

i'm with them myself for mobile service since god knows when and have never had any issues, maybe i'm just lucky.
Parents have BB & phone with them and barring a few issues on contention rates that i had to sort for them over phone which yes was to India its not been too bad at all. They had Sky BB previous to that and it was similar issues and similar outcome for fixes tbh.

We've Fibre to the home with them landline unlimited calls and got the free sports on our sky box

I am on pay as you go with them and herself was on sim only for 24.99 a month

Rang and ordered two sims got thru ok a call centre in cork and they got ordered 9.99 a month

I rang for loyalty a while ago our contract was nearly up and went off to ponder and to be fair they called me back to follow up

Havent had many more problems the f2000 modem is a piece of gack but ringing eir is not going to reengineer that for me!!

Worst customer service ever. I am with Meteor sim only plan for some time and before that for years on bill pay. Never had much issues contacting CS before.

Once it changed to Eir, cant seem to get hold of them.

28th Nov 2018 - There was some sort of deal on Sim only plan. Tried to contact through phone, never got through even once. Then tried the chat and after more waiting, finally found someone.

Explained that I am on a old sim only plan and now want to go to the new plan. He again started taking details of everything, addredd, direct debit... etc even though everything was there in the system. I asked why, he said the only way to do it is setup a new order and cancel old. So he supposedly did what was required (took 40-45 min on chat), I got a confirmation mail as well about the order as well.

April 2019 - New order still pending - nothing changed, not sure what happened to it. Still on old plan. Tried to contact again through chat and they said you have to call sales team. Sales team never picks up the phone. In the end I just give up.

Absolutely don’t work for EiR, I have no connection to them whatsoever other then as a customer, but I felt I needed to provide a slightly more balanced opinion on the service as I’ve experienced it..... it seems everyone who has experienced ok service is ‘lucky’. Maybe that’s true but keep an open mind, there are plenty of competitors who’d love to slag off Eir here too

Did anyone call Vodafone to see what deals they offer for broadband and mobile sim only combined?

Tempted to ditch virgin and go for fibre broadband and eir mobile for a year and see how it works out but not sure as I'm used to the reliability of Virgin broadband and Vodafone network!

Does anyone know if you are a new broadband customer can include the eir mobile connect - 30 Day option and the add another sim later without extending the original (broadband) contract?

Yes I think you can I added a second SIM some time after my first one and it didn't affect the contract. The SIMs themselves are on a rolling 30 day contract.

how did they get that down? I'm on about 130 a month with broadband and 2xmobile

I'd love to tell you, but she did all the work. Main jump was my 30 day phone bill went from 35 to 9.99, but she reduced our broadband/phone package by bumping it down to off peak (we don't use the phone and best deal when we signed up was with phone package) and my wife's phone bill too which I would have seen as set costs.

Aside from changing my rolling contract, the following discounts were applied according to the email I got afterwards:

    Promotion - 20 Euro off for 12 months €20.00 x 12 months ending April 2020
    Promotion - 15 Euro off for 12 months €15.00 x 12 months ending April 2020
    Promotion - 10 Euro off for 12 months €10.00 x 12 months ending April 2020

Yeah, you got me, I work for an Eir competitor, and set up a Boards account 14 years ago in anticipation of this thread so I could join in and trash them

They've a long, long history of appalling customer service. There's nothing unbalanced about pointing that out.

Having awful trouble trying to sign up to this as an existing eir mobile customer, keep getting bounced around departments, when I finally get through to the loyalty team the phone line picks up and then dies.

    So frustrating!

I had tried a few times before I got through to someone who could help. Same as you - bounced around between departments until either it hung up, or I needed to.

When I got finally got through to someone who could help (customer retention team), I think I had selected the option to change or cancel my account.

I had been looking at their half price SIMO sale before.
Got excited for a minute till I noticed they dropped the 100min international calls from the plan. suckers..
    i would have switched otherwise.

there's nothing balanced about their customer service

why would they have just moved to 3 irish call centers if everything was ticky boo

you had to wait 45 minutes to connect to the loyalty team, this is basically sales

they dont prioritise eir customer for connections, they have service contracts with vodafone sky etc

Anytime I ring the 1800 number I am talking to someone in about 20sec.
Signed up there and €10/month isn't too bad. I'm currently with Vodafone PAUG and can wait until my 4 week period ends before activating the Eir SIM. Hopefully it all works out.

The delays appear to be when someone only wants to upgrade their mobile package to the €14.99 option.

As you rightly say, if you're changing everything they are only too willing to deal with you.

Just being told that wifi calling is only for BB customers, that's a bit rough but will chance it anyways.

Wi-Fi calling is available to anyone on Eir sim free (with or without Broadband) once your phone is compatible.

It's not just for Eir BB customers but they have only tested it with Eir and can thus only guarantee it with Eir. It will of course work with other BB providers as it works works wide.

I’m on a business plan with eir atm, but the only reason I’m keeping it is coz of the WiFi calling.
This would be less that half the price of that plan.

Avoid like the plague. 2 weeks trying to get broadband issues resolved, chat icon waste of time. 50 mins holding on phone to speak to customer service, promised reduction in bill, never happened 47 minutes waiting time again. And worse is they even pulled there service contacts off boards. Be warned.
    They're a bloody shambles

I recently switched to this offer and I couldn't be happier.
Can't complain about €15/month for 12 months for unlimited calls, texts and 30gb data. Eir Sports app is also a bonus. You may need to wait 24hrs for this to work.

I can also confirm that WiFi calling is available on this plan. It seems to activate when ever I turn it on and I have excellent signal strength so it's not just on weak signal.
I did have to change the firmware on my S8+ but that was easy and my phone is much faster now.

Firmware change is required for WiFi calling if your phone was not purchased from Eir.
NB. Back up your phone before attempting the above. Eg smart switch for Samsung devices.

Steps I followed to change firmware on my S8+

The following is educational only and if you try it I will not be held responsible if anything goes wrong.

    1. Back up what's app.
    2. Backup phone data using Smart Switch.
    3. Turn on USB debugging in developer mode. This may not be required but some found it helps prevent issues.
    4. Remove all Google and Samsung accounts.
    5. Download the Meteor firmware from Sammobile and Odin (flashing software)
    6. Extract the firmware.
    7. Open Odin and add each of the extracted files. AP will take the longest and choose CSC without the Home.
    8. Put phone into download mode.
    9. Connect phone to PC. Odin should detect your device and a BLUE box will show up with the COM port number. (Be sure, the SAMSUNG-drivers are installed on your PC!)
    10. Do NOT tick any extra boxes if present. The only options to be ticked are F.Reset Time and Auto-Reboot.
    11. Click the start button, wait for Odin to say 'PASS' in a GREEN box. Once the flash is complete, your phone will reboot, and you can disconnect your phone from the PC.
During the process the download bar on your phone will also indicated the progress of the download .

How long does this offer run for does anyone know? I'm tied to Vodafone for another few months but would nearly buy myself out of it - no wifi calling on my S9+ and very poor signal generally lately.

I'm also an eir BB customer so would get it cheaper again.
