If you are aware of any events such as conventions, signings etc coming up any time soon please feel free to post a reply here to such.

This is for information ONLY not discussion. If there are any other details needed you can contact the person posting or the venue it is being held at. Any non information replies will be deleted.

Additionally, events may not include such things as sales or any direct advertising for shops - please read charter fully for details on this. If however it is a public event not directly linked to sales (ie. An author signing) this will be allowed. I will edit/remove posts that may fall outside of the charter, and contact the person posting through PM.

On December the 3rd Irish Comic Expo is being held in Central Hotel just off Georges street. And as a bonus for comic lovers, on the 4th Comet Comics is again hosting a Comic Mart in its usual home, Wynns hotel; 10am to 5pm!

was meant to go last year but i wasnt back from new york in time.....have mixed feelings about not having exhibators tables, as an artist I enjoy working a table as you get to talk to people about your work, also as a comic fan what i like about small press shows is that the person sitting behind the table is usally the artist so you can talk to them about their work rather then dealer tables were the people running them are retailers.

every show is different and its always fun to hit a new one cus you never know how your work will go down or what will sell, the book/print you sold out of at the least show might not sell at all and the one no one liked last time is the big seller......I'm looking forward to seeing what caption is like

i'm definitely curious to check it out. what sounds appealing to a newbie like me is the fact that you don't have to hire a table, but that you still have a chance to sell comics. i can certainly appreciate that that might be a nightmare for more established artists though. but for someone such as myself who's only starting off it seems like a cheaper alternative to the cons where you have to rent a table.

Con season can be very pricey [just paid $325 for my MoCCA 08 table] but only the really big cons sell expensive tables - MoCCA, SPX and SDCC are the most expensive. Tables for alot of small press events aren't to bad - APE is the west coast alternative to MoCCA and their tables are only $150 odd which for a two con is damn good. SPACE and Stumptown are under the $100 mark plus any half decent con sells half tables as well, American con tables tend to be bigger then UK based events and a full table can be alot to fill if your only starting. [Of course you have to add travel, hotels and printing costs as well]

The uk web and mini comic thing is a good con in london, full tables last here were under £50, but save money by sharing a table, thats what I did for my frist few years at MoCCA, this year was the first year I had enough of my own work that i could fill a whole table by myself. I'm always up for sharing a table at con if someone is really interested in attending, or I'll take peoples stuff for them if they can't make a con[within reason of course]. I've had friends take my stuff to a number of cons round Europe and the states for me cus I took their stuff to cons they couldn't attend.

Of course if you goal is to make money you shouldn't be hitting comic cons but anime conventions - artists alley tables tend to be much cheaper and if your good at quick sketches you can make a decent profit doing comissions.

hmm it's all very interesting. i think you hit on the key thing there - not having enough work to justify a table to yourself i.e. me. i'm going to go along to the Caption event though and 'dip my toe in the water' by bringing along my first mini-comic (if i can get it done in time!:o ). my aim is definitely not to make money at this stage anyway, it's just to get feedback from other people.
that mini-comic con in London sounds good - when is it normally on?

This years con guest list includes Steve Niles - 30 Days of Night writer/creator, Pia Guerra - Y The Last Man artist, Simon Furman - Transformers writer, Bryan Talbot - 2000AD, Luther Arkright, Leah Moore + John Reppion - Albion, Ian Boothby - Simpsons writer, Stephen Mooney - Angel artist, Stephen Thompson - Buckaroo Banzai + Star Wars, Declan Shalvey - Freak Show, Will Sliney - Atomic Rocket Group 66. Doors open at 10am and stay open till 5pm. Admission is 10 Euro. The con is on the first floor of the Central hotel with three dealers rooms, a room for talks and a full bar. UK web and mini comix thing '08

EVENT TYPE : Comic Festival
LOCATION : Angouleme, France
DATE/TIME : January 24th to 27th
ADDITIONAL INFO : The Angoulême International Comics Festival is the main comic book festival in Europe [over 1/4 million visitors last year]. Its taken place ever year since 1974 in Angouleme, a town so cracked about comics and illustration that the streets are named after famous artists.

The sites english verision appears to be MIA at the moment hopfully it will be back up soon. There are special deals on train fares from paris via the website.

Like SDCC its one of those cons you should make the trip to at least once in your life.

Liveline showcases original artwork and comics by the cream of the UK underground and independent scene, presenting this dynamic, accessible, yet marginalised medium to a wider public. This exhibition also features work by young people as part of our Manga Lives project.

The original artwork will be for sale.

I have three of my comics in the show and there's some other really talented small press people showing work as well.

The Comic Creators' Guild of Great Britain Swap Meet
Feb 23rd a the White Swam Pub,
20 Farringdon Street,
London EC4A 4AB,
2 - 6pm.

the purpose of this event is to provide all comic book creators a venue where they can meet other creators, to network, socialise and discuss any matter that they find important.
This event isn’t a market, so there will be no expectations for you to buy a table or the likes. Nor is this event some kind of recruitment drive. This is simply a venue that we are offering to all small-press creators.
The decision to call it a swap-meet comes from the thought that as a creator, you might wish to show your products to other creators and exchange comics. You are not, however obliged to do so. The “meet” part in the “swap-meet” title is by far the most important element. Comics Creators Guild website

free comic book day is May 3rd - as far as I recall last year there actually wasn't an official free comic book day event but rather one of the "DUBLIN COMIC and TOY MART" events happened to fall on free comic book day and they had some of the free comic book day comics at the mart for everyone attending. Might want to check with the guys who run the Marts to see if they are holding one around May 3rd.

This year's BICS is happening on 4th and 5th October, and special Guests include Michael Golden, Charlie Adlard, Duncan Fegredo, Mark Buckingham, and many many more to be confirmed.

The venue is once again The Think Tank at Millennium Point, and this year more space has been booked for exhibitors and panels making BICS the largest UK show on the calendar.

Yes I'm really looking forward to this event, should be a blast.

The fact that it's free is amazing. However, if all councils were as good as this one in Derry all comic shows could be free.

Unfortunatley Birmingham City Council have offered no funding to our show, so we have to charge to cover the huge costs.

Maybe one day all councils will be as supportive as this one. They are to be commended, as is David for all his hard work.

London underground comics, who run the Camden comics stall in London, are putting together a mini comic festival called NO BARCODES at the end of May. Its a one day show that will have tables selling mini comics and some workshops happening through out the day. Check the linked website for more information.

Thought Bubble: The Leeds Sequential Art Festival!

Thought Bubble preparation is underway! The festival will take place this year from November 13th - 16th (we may even add a day at the beginning to fit all the screenings in) and as last year the festival is brought to you in conjunction with the 22nd Leeds International Film Festival. The convention event will be held on Saturday, November 15th. Thanks to everyone here at MW who has been so supportive, it is hugely appreciated

We're working hard to bring you something really special this year. The website has been up for a couple of weeks and is being updated regularly, so check back often for details on screenings, guests, panels and workshops.

Thought Bubble will take place at a variety of locations around the city centre this year, including panels and workshops in Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds City Library. We're also very excited to announce that the Thought Bubble one day convention event will take place this year at the Royal Armouries in the Saviles Hall. If at any time you wrote to Jim and he did not Fix It, he's making up for it now with this fabulous venue

Seriously, it's an amazing venue, less than 10 minutes walk from the train station and city centre.

Here are the guests we have confirmed so far; more to be announced very soon!

The Thought Bubble girls are VERY happy to announce our latest addition to the rosta:
Mark Millar:: The hugely popular creator of Wanted (now a hotly anticipated motion picture scheduled for release in June 2008) and Kick-Ass, writer of the Fantastic Four, the Ultimates, and more great books than you can shake a stick at, is now confirmed as a guest for the 2008 installment of Thought Bubble.

Mike Carey:: Writer of X-Men/X-Men: Legacy, Faker, Lucifer, Hellblazer and many more comic book titles, plus his brilliant Felix Castor novels. Mike will be doing a writing workshop for us, stay tuned for more details.
Adi Granov:: Iron Man artist extraordinaire in his only UK convention appearance of 2008!
Barry Kitson:: Fan favourite Barry, the new Amazing Spider-Man artist, is back with us for round 2 of Thought Bubble!

Tickets will go on sale soon. As per last year, under 12's get in absolutely free. All workshops and panels are included in the price of your convention ticket. Although free, all workshops will require that you sign up in advance as spaces are limited.

We're looking for exhibitors for this year's show. We have very competitive table rates, and welcome enquiries from small press, dealers and professionals alike. Drop us a line at thoughtbubble@hotmail.co.uk if you're interested.

The theme for this years Caption festival has been announced as "Timewarp". Caption is an annual small press show that takes place every August in Oxford. The show has a theme each year and runs workshops and panels based around this time. There are no exhibitors tables, the Caption organizers run one big table that people place their books on - Caption takes 10% from all sales. This years Caption will take place August 9 - 10

To celebrate the official UK release of The Mindscape of Alan Moore feature documentary, legendary creator Alan Moore and writer-director DeZ Vylenz will be signing at Orbital Comics.

Alan Moore and DeZ Vylenz will be signing the DVD, “The Mindscape of Alan Moore. The DVD is available now to buy from Orbital Comics.

This will be a ticketed event, on a first come first served basis. Due to time constraints there will only be a limited number of tickets available on the day so please come early to avoid disappointment. Doors open at 10.30am

Hot Thor artist Olivier Coipel has now confirmed a weekend long appearance as our third overseas special guest. The French superstar creator is looking forward to his first UK convention and I'm sure all Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to get a sketch and to meet the man himself.

Also now confirmed: Dave Gibbons, Mark Buckingham, Alan Davies, Leah Moore and John Reppion and flying in from the US - DC Comics editor and Artist Mark Chiarello.

Plus many many more.

This year at the Birmingham International Comics Show budding writers will be given the chance to enter the BICS GOT TALENT writing competition.

Entrants will be able to pitch an idea for a Tharg's Future Shock to a star line up of professional Judges and the final three will face an audience vote to decide which story will be illustrated by a top 2000ad artist and published in a forthcoming issue.

The final winner will receive full payment for their story as first prize, and the runner's up will receive exclusive 2000ad prizes.

EVENT TYPE : Launch party for Gazebo (a new indy comic by Philip Barrett and me, Liam Geraghty) and The Comic Cast (a new Irish-based comics podcast hosted by Craig O'Connor and me again)

LOCATION : Downstairs in Thomas Reads, Dame st. Dublin city centre

DATE/TIME : Weds 9th July / From 7.30pm

The Comic Cast is a new fortnightly comic-book (both superhero and indy) based podcast. Every two weeks the show will alternate between a discussion show (comics news, comic book films, etc) to an interview show (interviews with mainly Irish artists/writers/designers/illustrators). The first podcast is available to listen to / download now at www.thecomiccast.com and the first interview podcast is with Chris Judge (www.chrisjudge.com) which will be available from the launch party date.
