Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is this not working for anyone else? Any time I put the code in it just seem to load for a second and then nothing happens. It doesn't tell me it's invalid but it doesn't take the discount off.

I literally booked a few minutes ago and it worked fine.

    Thanks,
    M

OK thanks, I'll try again - not sure what I'm doing wrong!

Well I changed browsers from Chrome to IE and it worked! Curious isn't it! Thanks OP too.

If you book say a train for 4pm but miss it, will the ticket be valid for the 5pm train granted there are seats on it?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 77,020 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

Yes but you'll have to pay a surcharge. There's something to that effect in the terms and conditions.

Thanks New Home, the machine will still give you a ticket even though the time has passed when you go to collect it? (ie go to machine to collect ticket at 4.15pm when I have paid for 4pm train)?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 77,020 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

I wouldn't know for certain, but I suppose so, considering you've paid for it. You might have to go to either the ticketing desk or the customer service area to have your ticket amended and to pay the difference, or if they're closed you might have to pay on the train. Unless you have to travel at 'stupid o'clock' tomorrow morning, why don't you give them a ring? I'm sure any station should be able to give you the information you need, if the phone queues are too long in the main stations.

There is no issue with collecting the ticket from the machine after the time has passed. I paid the surcharge, €10, at the ticket office and they issued a supplementary ticket. This only applies for travel on the same day, otherwise the booked ticket isn't valid. if no ticket office open I imagine yu can pay on the train.

I went on an earlier train before than on my ticket, went to the ticket sales window to ask how much it was to change and the man told me to jump on, ticket was checked by an inspector on the journey and nothing said.

    That was lucky! :)

Missed a train recently because a Luas didn't turn up. Explained to the lads on the platform and they had no bother leaving me on the next train no mention of surcharge.

I missed a train once and the guy in the ticket sales desk said I could get on the next one at no extra cost. Then the ticket inspector tried to charge me €10 on the train. I kicked up a fuss and he let me off.

    You using CAPS?

    You using CAPS?

Used as how it was printed here but I'll try lowercase.

"ienl2803" - spot on worked in lowercase.

Would've thought they'd do a discount for the upcoming bank holiday weekend, still time I suppose.

Why would they, seriously, most people travel on BH weekends anyway, why would they reduce their revenue?? Point of codes is to encourage people to travel at times/days that the network is normally quiet, not out of generosity on IEs part.

True that, but from a customer service point of view more than anything. That was my thinking around it.

Courtesy of Heisenberg1 in another thread:

Irish rail discount code for 15% off all bookings made (rather than journeys taken) between 17th-20th October 2016.

    Enter code FAFD2816 on www.irishrail.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭missmatty

Thanks a mill, that's the first discount code I've got in years! They used to do them all the time but not anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,606 ✭✭✭schemingbohemia

One thing that not everyone is aware of - if you have a Taxsaver ticket (not sure it even has to be an Irish Rail one, could be Luas/Dublin Bus) there's a drop-down ticket option that often gives excellent discounts.
Last weekend I was looking at one way to Carrick-on-Shannon and it was €30,95 for adults but €21 for Taxsaver ticket holders.

Can you use a discount code on a student fare ticket?

The discount code can be used on all bookings made online, including for student tickets.

None of the dates seem bookable online for me at the moment. It was working okay all week. Is anyone else having problems?

    Any new codes guys?

Title is very clear around asking for codes. You can use the requests forum when asking for codes rather than bumping this thread please.
