Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As we were reaching the 10k post limit, time for a new Padraig Harrington thread.

Hopefully another good weekend for him in the Northern Trust Open, and hopefully this year we'll be chancing the thread title celebrating a win as well!!:D

The start of a new era for Padraig! I've got a good feeling about this.......

    Ode to Paddy......and Padraig.

Paddy, thank you, but Padraig your nuts.
With the pub fans, " he changed" - what ifs and buts.
You gave us an Open, another, a PGA.
You sent young Garcia on his petulant way.

"You were supposedly finished" - in the way of your self.
They said , "head and yips" - you were on the finished shelf.
But, you ignored them all - stuck at the inner plan.
Got stuck in, became a much (munch) bigger man.

So when your own game is a mess, your written off.
Think of our 3 major hero - don't be be too mentally soft.
Hope for the elders - he is soon to be 45.
But he plays every day, so glad to be alive.

So the pub golf fans who doubted and still doubt him.
They have let the drink make them forgetful and dumb.
Before, there were no majors ,ladybirds in cups.
You only know what it is to be down after such ups.

So, more majors will come from Shane, Rory and Dunne
But they know and we know, by who the first work was done.
But, it is not over yet - that is not even a poetic lie.
Thanks for everything , the tears, victories, the joy.

Anyone remember the forums on BBC 606 a few years ago?

Westwood and Poulter used to occasionally post on them and answer questions. I guess it was before Twitter really took off.

So Padraig, if you do read this then sign up to Boards please :D

    First 3 putt on the 12th, +1.

-2 overall and heading for the turn, 3 birds and one bogey on the front 9.

A scruffy bogey to finish last night, but another cut made and given the compact nature of the leaderboard a low one today could see him move up a nice bit.

He should have done a lot better last week, after compfortably making the cut.

Lets hope he can at least get into contention today,to gain a significant amount of RP's.

I think there will be a second cut tonight so not much margin for error.

Don't think there will be a second cut this week, 77 made the cut, think the 54 hole cut is in force when more than 78 qualify.

Yes, when I looked at it earlier I thought I counted 79 but 77 is just OK!

Nice start today -3 after 8 (playing back 9) . Much more consistent this year, seems to have eliminated the "brain fart's" that hindered him for a few years now, fingers crossed for a good year.

Padraig is going great - he is leaving a lot of mid range putts - say 15 feet , he doesn't seem to make many - or get as many birds as leaders.

A good rule of thumb (for me) at this stage, If Padraig is 1/2 the leading score he is having a great weekend.

Sadly - that tends to leave you around the top 20 mark, but not dramatic stuff - or even on TV or top page.

Great bogey free round of 66 today!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,958 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Of course he makes a 15 footer on last.

3 or 4 under tomorrow would be nice and should be a top 10.

Lovely round today! Currently in the top 20. Hopefully we'll get to see him tomorrow.

Great round today, 5 birdies and no bogeys. That's what we want. Just in time for the Honda retention as well ;)

great back 9 today, 3 birdies - choo choo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,708 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Joint low round of the day, ball striking seems good. The really wild one off the tee isn't as prominent this year. Nothing like the dreaded 300 yards to unknown!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 266 ✭✭Eaglebridie 32

Ok, 54 holes on a pretty difficult course, only 5 bogeys, 11 birdies, no doubles or others😀😀.
Would like to think that a return to the WR top 50 is achievable if current form continues?

Some round! I was scrolling from the bottom up and was worried I didn't see Paddy. Great stuff. :)

Driving and iron play is top drawer, if he gets shot putter in a week could def win this year again. Honda next week again?

    "Hot" putter

I must say I am very encouraged by Paddy's start to the season. It has been very solid apart from the missed cut after his very good performance at that champions tournament at the start. For me what I find most encouraging is that 2 weeks in a row now he's made the cut but not only that, he's made a move in the 3rd round (moving day). If my overview of his performance last year is anything to go by, apart from the British open, he didn't really do well in any 3rd round when he made the cut. Often he'd lose ground and other times he'd just hold his position, usually after only scraping in anyway. I put that down to his inability to finish strongly more frequently. Reading between the lines of a couple of quotes, he finds it hard to focus if he doesn't have much to play for so when he doesn't progress in the 3rd round, I suspect it makes it harder for him to motivate himself to finish strongly. Just my opinion.

Now in saying that, he was in a good position last week after a good 3rd round and it didn't work out for him. But, again, encouragingly he has bounced back and given himself another shot at a good finishing position. Looking at the leaderboard, he's clearly too far back to be in the mix come the back nine but a top 10 is not beyond him. I think he'll have to play equally well to manager that though. -9 is T10 at the moment so he has a lot of ground to make up unless those ahead struggle. For me, another move up the leaderboard, where ever that leads him will be a big step in the right direction.

On an aside, I'm based 3 hours ahead of GMT so he's playing even later than normal for me. Its ruining my sleep as I keep waking to see how's he's getting on!! arrggg!

What I like most about his recent rounds is that there have been no disasters - no doubles, no spraying of drives all over the place. And his putting is going well too. That was a great round yesterday, and I'll be very happy if he can put in a solid round this evening.

He can't afford to do that - everyone seems to be shooting low today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,073 ✭✭✭MarcusP12

Ah jaysus, that's all yesterday's good work gone.......I think we were all too quick to proclaim his return....still going in the right direction as far as I'm concerned, progress might be a bit more gradual that yesterday's performance might have suggested though!

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 950 ✭✭✭mickmackmcgoo

Look at shot tracker and see what he done. Paddy's usual Sunday meltdown. A 22 handicapper wouldn't have done what he done on 7 . Seems like when he makes one error In a round he just can't forget the bad shot then loses focus and anything can happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

I should have kept my bloody mouth shut last night instead of extolling the virtues of yesterday's round. All the good work undone. So so disappointing.

It is fine - he just had a bad day - it happens.

Rory is having a poor day too.

It is the general trend you look at in golf when on the up - he is on the up.

No point peeking too early in the season.

Build it slow for the majors.
