Well there is more rain tomorrow/tonight and with the ESB releasing more water from the dam, high winds, tides and the ground not being able to take any more water as it is, there is a great chance of more flooding

    Met Eireann:
Cold and dry early tonight with some clear spells. But wet and windy weather will sweep up from the south later on tonight, with some very heavy rain over Munster and south Leinster by dawn.

Maradyke Arena is under 3 feet of water. I was whishted away from taking any inside shots. The public park and the crickit club there are all flooded. Generaly under 3 feet of water. Tragedy really., the Arena is a great amenity.

These photos are just immense, gob smacked at the scale of it and the distance it has covered, from the mardyke river all the way to the UCC/Gaol cross river seem to be almost one.

Last I've heard, bottled water has sold out in most of the shopping centres. There will be emergency supply tankers in Blackpool SC, Ballyvolane SC, Nemo Rangers and a few others. Water is expected to be out for 4/5 days so stock up if you can find any.

Believe it or not, some of the pubs and clubs are going to try and open tonight.....:)

The students there were being evacuated.

Has anyone been in the city centre since lunchtime?
Has the water subsided in the Grand Parade and South Mall?
I was planning to go into town tonight. It's meant to be a dry night with the next heavy rain not expected until dawn so I was thinking I'd be safe enough.

I was told that the floods have died down a bit but there's still a lot of surface water.

Yeah, they were posted already. Still unbelievable to see Cork like that. More rain tonight and the ESB are releasing more water from the dam so the prospect of more flooding is very high

Anyone think it would be likely that the area around the College of Commerce/Copley St. Apartments would flood? Probably v. unlikely but might be safer to take the Xbox upstairs.

I feel so sorry for my friend living in a basement flat up the Western Road. Her place got destroyed.

What my family are doing is keeping an empty wheelie bin open overnight to catch any rainwater. That way we can use that water to flush the toilet the next day. :D

Uh, so is the whole city going to shut down for a few days or what?

I know the rain was exceptionally heavy but does anyone else think the response has been pretty pathetic?

I will spend the evening thinking of the best way to maximise the half litre or so of water I have left in the Brita filter in my fridge.

The East side of the city seemed to be completely un-affected, but then again the Lee does widen a bit by that stage.

Some pics from the Grand Parade around Lunch Time, still impassable (accept army jeeps offcourse :D ):

Its due to get worse - high tide is around 7 and following that, the ESB will be doing a controlled release of water from the Iniscarra Dam as the tide is going out. So even though the tide is going out, there will still be a substancial anount of water

Rain is forecast for 2nite, 23mm I heard - high tide is between 7-9 am 2moro.

Wind makes things so much worse.

Actually I was over by where the wall by mercy tumbled over (Including some of the road) and at 3pm nothing had being done to it. Surely they've put up something. It will be very hard to hold the weight of that water.
