Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Good man o1s1n!

I still have that config file in my Dropbox somewhere!

I really must work on the software of my bartop to finally get it all working properly.

My configuration of Hyperspin is hosed since they changed from using xml to sqlite for their config database.

    ...stupid stupid Hyperspin.

No problem! copied and pasted from the same .INI file as last time :D Have a 'no nag' version of MAME set up for just more modern shmups like Ibara with that HLSL setup on, it works so well it's left as is.

    Haha!

Sad thing is, that looks like it used to be a real cocktail cabinet :(

You possibly need the premium version for controller support (stick support in your case), not exactly sure. That said, if you do, it's really, really worth it. Setting up systems & games is an absolute breeze. And once it's all done and set up, you've big box mode for everyday use on your bartop (if buying the premium version).

I'm giving Hyperspin one last ditch effort after grabbing a completed config from...

    ...places.

Let's see how that goes first.

If that then feck it, I'll fork out $50 for a premium lifetime sub of Launchbox.

Buy a one year one, then if you like it, upgrade to a lifetime one when Black Friday rolls around as you'll get it for a good price. Black Friday seems to be the only day of the year they do a discount sub.

I'd say something daft like one is insert coin and the other is 1p start. Really ruins the aesthetic of it alright!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,058 ✭✭✭Doge

Ah lads it's just getting beyond nit picky now!

Nothing wrong with a 1p coin and start button on a name cab.

How else are you supposed to start the damn game!

It's just an ion icade cab converted hence the 8 buttons.

Blank off those two and migrate them to the sides.

I'd actually personally prefer them on the control panel than on the sides. Unless I wanted to emulate pinball games, that would be the only reason I'd have them on the sides.

Well I was wondering why there's 8 buttons, because turtles in tome only uses 2.

Buts it's probably just so other games can be played. Either way just looks wierd and crowded to myself....imo

Generally the eye finds odd numbers more attractive. Keep control panel buttons to 3 or 6 with extra buttons away to either the sides or placed over the control buttons.

8 buttons like that on a small cab just looks silly imo.

Still not a bad effort though.

I remember that rotating control panel from the ArcadeControls.com forum circa 2003.

I think 75% of the projects on there back in the day would have constituted Mame of Shames. At the time they had a bit of a 'merican vibe where every control panel had to be bigger than the last one.

In regards to 8 buttons, a lot of people map them to 3P/3K for street fighter games - but those are cheater buttons.

There's an arcade in Kilkee still has the glorious Sega Emergency Call Ambulance but they seem to be closed any time I went up there in the past year. All the machines are just sitting there too although they're pretty shook.

Ah of course, it's a lovely cab, was just taking the piss.

As for skills, if I can build synthesizers I can surely build a cab especially from a kit with the wooden panels precut.

I lack the tools and skills to do a Banjo Guy Ollie effort though!
