Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You can use Blokada if not rooted or Adaway if you are.
Also it is a very good idea to change browser on your phone to one of these (for example)
Edge, Bromite, Yuzu or Kiwi and turn on adblocker.

Blokada can't be used concurrently with a VPN on your phone.

I top up by €15 a month. The only thing that costs me money are text messages so Im 99% on WhatsApp. I've over €100 built up which I should use to save me a few months.
They don't notify you when you need to top up but I just set a calendar entry in Google calendar to remind me to update.

Speeds aren't great. Always less than 10mb/s but usually more than 2mb/s for me. Which is enough for my needs. I user WiFi at home so if I need something large I just plan ahead.

you don't get any roaming data with the 15€ top up - is that correct.

e.g. need to buy a bundle to get roaming?

Dunno. If only been to the north a few times and the data I used would have been small. It worked though and made no difference to my bill.

Anyone know if this new customer offer €15 €10 for 30 days means you keep the €10 credit?
    It's ambiguous wording at best
The offer is valid for 30 days from the activation date and it is subject to automatic renewal until it expires,
the customer is required to keep the minimum amount to allow the first activation and subsequent renewals,

I was looking at that too and couldn't figure it out. I'm heading down to Carphone Warehouse shortly so might get an answer from them. Reading through the comments on customer service has put me off though. Are they really as bad as it sounds?

No it's not that bad. It's a budget service. How many times do these people have to contact support anyway. I've been with them 2 years and had to contact them twice, both times without any problems.

better off using the facebook page for lycamobile ireland if you have a query / issue as the support is off in India somewhere and their main aim is to get you on a recurring bundle.

I doubt is as it's described as a bundle.

bundles you have to use credit to buy
Offer valid for six months from the port-in date thereafter bundle will revert to the standard price of €15.

so basically it's still a better deal* (*but no roaming in month 1 so if roaming needed both months then yes prob better to go for the €10 euro offer each month) to

month 1. top up by €15 euro and get free calls and 15gb data for 30 days. no free texts included but you keep credit. no roaming.
month 2. use credit to buy a bundle for 30 days (you get roaming with bundles).

total cost for 2 months is €15 and you could even buy maybe a cheaper bundle (if meets your needs) with the credit to have credit left over

    with the other deal 2 months (well 2 x 30 days) would cost 2 x €10 euro = €20
    (with roaming both months)

the hassle with lyca is mainly around keeping track of when your service runs out to reactivate without using credit on normal rates.
setting a reminder on your phone the easiest way

It depends on what you contact them about. I joined Lycamobile when they originally came to Ireland and had a problem with sending texts, this problem was never solved in all the time I was with them. So, in effect, I contacted them once with absolutely no result, just continual fobbing off.
I'd take a lot of convincing to rejoin them.

lyca are very good and with a top up offer and bundle the following month are cheap,
its annoying you cant see a call log or what credit you used easily tho

  • Registered Users Posts: 432 ✭✭Danny2580

Excellent budget network IMHO, usually best if contacted by twitter for customer care. Data can be slow in Ireland, generally good abroad. I had no issues watching a full football match on RTE player on a TV in a remote part of south Greece last time I was there, solely using Lyca's wifi roaming (at no cost).

how do you use wifi roaming abroad and/or find hotspots?

if the apn doesn't come through abroad you need to keep using the home apn settings, not the one that is native for the foreign country

Search for the partner network in the other country and set up as normal. Google around , think there's a thread on it somewhere.

a man of mystery. not even a clue...

I did think that the general point of forums was to share information....

I had googled subsequently and for the benefit of other users instead of "just google duh"; found this for the UK. presumes applies for Ire when abroad

    https://www.lycawifi.com/

so from what I can see you must be up and running on a bundle at the time and use a specific android / ios app as mentioned in the link

Other sites think I'm in Denmark (xe.com displays DKK as default) or Netherlands

You are correct this has been the case for a couple of years, but it seems to have changed this week. BBC iplayer & ITVhub dont seem to work for me anymore.

When I go to whatismyip I get 83.173.6.100 which is in Drogheda.

Enjoyed the iplayer. any easy way to get it back on the phone?.
Would changing the APN data.lycamobile.ie help?

Or perhaps they are getting prepared for 4G

Has anyone experienced difficulty streaming radio stations using Lycamobile data on their phones?

I haven't been able to do it for about a month. It works fine with WiFi and also works if I change to a three sim.

Its not a reception issue as youtube etc. all work no problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,997 ✭✭✭✭zell12

    Have no problem.
I use www.surfmusic.de rather than the station's website

  • Registered Users Posts: 178 ✭✭maurice1

    @bossdrum
I use the Ireland Radio app and RadioUK app.
Both work fine on LYCA 3G
But for the last month BBC iplayer doesn't work on Lyca 3G

@zell12 www.surfmusic.de great site for internet radio thanks

I was out last night and had turned off my vpn to do something. Forgot about it and was then reading the news and noticed yerjnisdyre.cloudfront.net loading and showing me an advert to Lycamobile before the pages load.
Is that new? That would do my head in, I never noticed it before as I use a VPN, but I also have adaway installed which obviously hasn't blocked that yet. I didn't make a rule as when vpn is on it's gone again.

Ha, and I was the first answer... :o

I thought they were referring to banner adverts but even the other ones, Blokada would probably work anyway. Cheap or free VPN definitely should work too.

I have a sub with expressvpn so I hadn't see those type of ads, but sometimes banner ads creep in until updates.

I have a terrible experience with them

Stay away.. at first, it was wonderful until I need to renew my bundle, I could do it online so I called customer service 1923, I had the port in a bundle, the team members took my money and give me another bundle, that was not the one I request to renew. then I call back.... BIG lie, port in bundle is only for one month, but term and condition writing 6 month... now cannot refund me or give me back my bundle have of course pay more....

ps: had to call 3 times to get some one I could actualy understand

  • Registered Users Posts: 204 ✭✭Shorty69664

Apologies in advance for a stupid question..

I've been using Lycamobile since March and I actually find it really good.
I have the Ireland plus bundle which I top up automatically with €15 each month.
So why then does my account show a balance in the region of €23?

Surely my balance should be €0 as I have paid them the exact cost of a monthly bundle.
    I just don't understand why I have a balance....
is there a portion of the €15 unused??

  • Registered Users Posts: 432 ✭✭Danny2580

You get to keep the €15. It's bizarre, but great! You can use the balance to top up an additional €15, the €9 bundle is grand too.

You had me doubting myself but I just checked and it's definitely the Ireland Plus bundle - Not top ups.

Top up by 15, calls + 15GB, keep top up

Following month use the top up to buy Ireland Plus which is calls+text+15GB.

So if you don't use text during top up month, then 2 months for 15 ie 7.50 per month.

AFAIK credit expires 90 days after top up so topping up and immediately buying Ireland plus bundle is free money for Lyca.
