Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

God, if anyone could recommend to me a 9% bottle of wine I'd really appreciate it.

Maybe ask in the wine forum. When I was younger one of my mates used to get lambrusco wine which was only 5-6%, it was fizzy and very easy to drink. I cannot comment on it from a connoisseur point of view, he used to neck the bottle!
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=598

Or just go to obriens and ask. The wine will be a little cheaper due to the lower duty on the bottle. But it maybe sweet, I think lambrusco was. You really want a dry wine, dry means all the sugar is pretty much fermented out. If grapes are picked early they will be lower in sugar, other fruits like apples will be lower in sugar than grapes.

I think WW wine is 9.5% but there is probably a better value option.

    Hi all,
Am jumping onto this thread as someone mentioned they're doing WW onlien. This afternoon I went to sign up for WW online (which I was on about a year and a half ago, when I lived in the UK) and found I could only sign up with a UK-address credit card. I don't have my UK one any more, only one with an Irish address, although i actually live outside of either now (in Serbia) so I can't get the 'at home' thing posted to me - I'd prefer to use the online tools anyway (which I thought were great).

Any advice for me, on how I can either sign up for the online version with my existing credit card, or some other way to follow WW from Serbia? I am expanding rapidly from all the cevapi and burek!!! (anyone who's been to the Balkans will know what i mean!)

Yeah, I also tried to sign up to the weight watchers online and I live in Dublin. :( Wish there were more products and resources like this site available in Ireland !!! :(

Can you order the products from the weight watchers magazine if you're no longer a member ??? I was a member about 2 or 3 years ago, but am just trying to follow it myself now. Not sure if I can order the products.

I'm doing it online and with an irish credit card, I just made up a postcode and it's been no problem. it's charged every month and never had any hassle, it's great!

    Hey there,
New to the site. Joined weight watchers in FEB AND LOST 12lbs so am delighted. First time I'm exercising and it's working surprisingly!!
I'd like to lose two stone so I'm half way there.

    Few queries.
How many points would one say is in a portion of home cooked
    a. potato wedges (oven baked)
    b. Oven chips regular ones???

I often like to have a small few with a salad as opposed to a big portion but is there any way of actually counting and not the 100gs is 3 points thing as I simply cannot work out how many that is or don't have a scales. Maybe I should get a scales. Is that the best option?
    Be grateful of any help.

Firstly well done on your weightloss. Thats absolutely brill, keep up the good work and don't lose focus!

You should definitely get yourself a weighing scales. I'd recommend a digital one! You can get them pretty much everywhere. And you don't have to buy a really expensive one either.

You can then weigh things so you can accurately point them. Then after a while you'll get to know more about correct portion sizes and you won't have to weigh every single thing.

As i've said before the biggest eye opener for me when I joined WW was my huge portion sizes!! when i actually began to weigh out that correct amount i should be eating it was almost always half of what i used to normally eat!!
Anyway good luck with the rest of your endeavour!

When you've got yourself that scales you can then work out what your chips will cost ya!

    Hi Seáner,
Thanks a mill. Ya I think like it's time to get the scales and be 100% honest about all of this. Mayeb I'll get the weight watchers one in class.
The class next week is about portion size so should be very interesting.

Very true, portion size is the main problem most have. The weird thing is when I ate the "right" amounts I was not hungry, and did expect to be, there was simply no need to be eating these huge amounts. They did not appear huge at the time, that is the problem too.

yep same for me. I was convinced that I would be STARVING...but i wasn't. My stomach was full, i'd eaten enough food...i just needed to give myself (my brain) a little while to cop on to this fact. :o

And it helped when i began eating the right foods (slow releasing energy) too.

    :pac::pac:

I nearly fell off my chair during the portion class..... I was eating 3 times too much rice in what I thought was a normal portion... Eating big lumps of steak and just over eating completely......

BTW there are 2 points in a 330ml bottle of normal lager.

I don't sorry. Tesco do healthy living cakes and stuff and I think they quote the points on them. I have gotten toffee cakes which were OK.

I just usually stick with business sellers on ebay "powersellers" with good reviews.

If you are unsure of a seller put their name into www.toolhaus.org this site only shows up negative and neutral feedback.

I don't do it myself but I know of other people who contact the WW leader in their local area and arrange to go in at the end of the meeting just to buy a few bits. They don't mind as I think they get commission for what they sell...

How many points in a brown sandwich bap does anyone know ? I worked it out and have it on a sticker in the press at home but can't remember !!! Oh and it's a Tesco brand if that helps ???

Slightly off topic, but wrecks my head sometimes ...

Every week in work (office) a menu for the canteen for the week goes up on the share drive and basicly says what hot food is on each day and what veg, etc. There's salads, sandwiches, paninis, cakes, yoghurts, drinks, soup and tea and coffee too. Just wondering what's the best thing to eat ... I usually go for a brown bread sandwich (usually with ham/turkey, lettuce, 1/2 tbsp grated cheese, either 1/2 tbsp mayo or 1/2 tbsp coleslaw, and tomato). Every Thursday there's a Weight Watchers kind of tomato and veg (mediterranean you might call it) soup on and it's really nice, I love it. Usually get a bowl of soup with the sandwich to keep me filled for the day, as I don't get home til about 6. Some days there's curries and stuff on that I do be very tempted to go for but I try to avoid them and the rice as I assume they wouldn't be great points wise what with the sauce and all. Any suggestions ??? Usually take a WW yoghurt up to my desk as a snack for the afternoon too. Boyfriend's 21st is tomorrow 5 weeks and wanna trim down as much as possible before then and have to find a new dress !!! Eeeeeek !!!

    All suggestions appreciated !!! :D

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I think it is what to do about lunches?

The easiest way to stay on track is to bring your own. That way you control portion sizes and you know exactly what is going into your meal.

You could still have your sandwich but made with low fat mayo/cheese and you could weigh everything and so know exactly what you are eating rather than 'around half a tablespoon' or '1 slice' of ham.

For all you know the tomato and veg soup could be made with loads of oil/cream etc. Why not make your own? Then you can be sure it is low points.

You can even have the curry if you want if you make it at home and control your portion size.

    Hey Litup !

Yeah, it was about lunches. I love all that rice/noodles with sauce dishes but know they're not great for the points. There's a tortellini with spinach and ricotta on today, not sure what that would be like. Then there's beef stir fry with noodles.

As for the soup, it's got a very watery/tomato base to it, and a lot of zero point veg in it ... celery, onion, tomato, peppers. And it's my fave soup ever !!! :D Oh it's on today !!!

Thats my point - you don't know what is in any of the dishes, be it the soup, the ricotta or the stir fry.

Bring in your own lunch and you will have control of your portion size, know exactly what is in it and exactly how many points it is. Otherwise, its all guesswork.

Anyone know how many points in small fruit scone (it really was v small!), one portion real butter and one portion of strawberry jam?

Probably 6 - 7 all in.... Our WW lady said there are 9 points in an Avoca fruit scone - whiich is very big... Butter - 1 and jam probably 2 .....

Weigh in tomorrow again but have lost 13.5 lbs in 8 weeks so happy enough.. Probably have another 7-9 lbs to go... Was very bad this weekend though :(

Started WW last week in a mens group up in the new HQ in swords. I think like most fellas my main concern is how it is going to affect my drinking career :D I am slightly confused about points for alcohol. Reading previous threads I think assuming 3pts for a pint is prolly safe enough - over the course of an evening if your drinking Heineken or Guinness it will work out maybe .5 to 1.5 points too much but no harm in over estimating slightly. The situation re spirits isn't as clear - someone quotes 1pt for vodka earlier but our leader said 1.5, based on the different size measures between here and UK (25 vs 33) . But doing it on the uk online calculator it looks like 1 pt whichever way you work it, assuming approx 75 cals for a 33ml measure... What dya think?

    Cheers,
    C

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭Numbercruncher

I would go with the online calculator to be honest, I use it myself and its always up to date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭Phibsboro

Just to clarify my earlier comment, Irish spirit measure is actually 35.5ml (aka 1.4 gill). So about 78 calories. Still 1 point on the online calculator. Have ten of them (780 cals) and the online is saying 11 so 1pt should be fine as a general number. So 5 pints and two vodkas with a diet mixer is 17 points, not too bad :D

Almost my daily allowance :( Makes you think really how fattening drink is, before ww I would have eaten normally and then drank the same points worth and not even thought about it!

I would say three for the scone, and one for about a teaspoon of jam. I wouldnt judge butter as I dont eat it so I am not sure. I would guess two for butter.

If you're talking about the cookies they make everyday in the bakery there is no way on earth that they're only 2.5 points! You can smell the butter in them, they must be at least 7.

Anyone any clue how many point would be in a Butlers hot chocolate? I need someone to scare me out of drinking them! :p

    Hi All

I have been doing WW for the past 11 weeks and have lost approx 10lb so far I an fairly happy with this as it is a know fact that the slower it comes off the longer it stays off!!! Anyhoo's the problem I am having at the mo' is that I haven't seemed to have lost anything in the past 2wks my weight seems to have plateau'd  it is soooooo frustrating as I am trying to lose at least another 10lb before my hols on the 12th July! Does anybody know how many extra points you can carry over from food and exercise?? I have been tracking my points and it seems that I have been carrying over approx 20points a week most of these extra points are from exercise that I have been doing I am fairly active and tend not to count my exercise points I just forget about the extra points earned from exercise!! Does anybody know by doing this am I actually slowing down my weight loss? Aswell on days that I am playing sport or have a match I don't tend to have proper meals in the evening I usually just end up having a toasted sambo!! Helpppppp coz I'm starting to lose the faith  here is a typical days food for me:

    Bowl of Special K 1.5
A couple of Pecan Nuts 1.5
    Slimline Milk 0.5

    2 Brown Bread 2.5
    Chicken 1.5
    Salad 0
    Lowfat Mayo 1

    Brown Rice 3
    Chicken 2.5
    Veg 0
    Sauce 2
    16 points Total
Plus I would do exercise on top of that most days and I am not very good at drinking the water would that be another contributing factor to my slow weightloss!!!! Sorry for the big essay :p

Hi DD, I've merged your thread with the "How Many Points In...?" ww thread and I've changed your font a little as the one you were using previously was a bit difficult to read :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

is 16 points the amount you are meant to have in a day? every week we are told not to save more than 4 points a day as any more can slow weight loss. that could be part of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 DizzyDieter

No I am supposed to have 20points a day but I do carry some over every day just in case I go a bit mad at the weekend .........which seems to happen alot!!!! :o but I suppose even on my bad days at the weekend I would only go over by 3 points or so!!! I'm gonna have to try and eat a bit more maybe 18 points a day its jst I don't get home til late some evenings and I don't like eating after 9 o'clock I suppose I could start having my main meal at lunchtime on the days I'm not gonna get home til late maybe that would help!!?? Also is it really true that muscle weighs more than fat or is that just a myth?? I appreciate any advice anyone has to offer I need all the help I can get ;)

One bowl of Kellogs All Bran with semi skimmed milk?

2-3 points? It is very very high in fibre

    Thank you!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

30g All Bran is 1.5 points. 1/4 pint of semi-skimmed milk is 1 point, if you change to skimmed it's only 0.5pts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

To work out the points you should have each day:
    Are you:
    Female = Score 3
    Male = Score 9

    Are you a breastfeeding mother?
    No = Score 0
Yes, breastfeeding exclusively = Score 10
Yes, supplementing breastfeeding with solid foods = Score 5

    How old are you?
    16 - 20 = Score 5
    21 - 35 = Score 4
    36 - 50 = Score 3
    51 - 65 = Score 2
    Over 65 = Score 1

How many stones do you weigh?
Ignore the lb, the number of stones is your score for this question. Someone who weights 12st 4lb will score 12

    How tall are you?
    Under 5ft 4ins = Score 1
    5ft 4ins or above = Score 2

In your day to day life are you:
Sitting down most of the time = Score 0
Occasionally sitting, but mainly standing = Score 2
Walking most of the time = Score 4
Doing physically hard work most of the time = Score 6

You should retake this quiz if you drop down to the next stone bracket

or if you have a birthday which takes you to the next age bracket.

    *************************************

For breakfast most cereals e.g. bran flakes, corn flakes etc are 1.5pts for 30g. 1/4 pint of skimmed milk is 0.5pts and semi-skimmed is 1pt.
WW yogurts are low in fat but quite small, I find Muller lite are a nice size they actually fill me and they're 1.5pts each. Bread is generally 1pt per slice or 2.5pt in 2 slices unless it's Nimble or WW bread. Low-at spread is 1pt for 2tsp, extra light is 0.5pt for 2tsp and butter is 1pt for 1tsp. If you have a lot of milk during the day don't forget to add it up

Snacks: Apple 0.5pt, banana 1.5, pears 1, pineapple slice 1, satsumas 0.5pt for 2, grapes 100g is 1pt. Dried fruit is higher. Nuts are healthy if you get the non-salted ones but will be high in points due to their oils (what makes them good for you as far as I know!) 50g peanuts is 5pts, 10g walnut is 1pt, 10 cashew nuts is 1pt. 30g bag of popcorn is 2.5, less if air popped. Snack a jacks are 2pts per bag or 1.5pt for the mulitpack bags. Ryvita are 0.5pt each and extra light philly is 1pt for a mini tub

Medium chicken fillet with no skin (165g) is 2.5pts. Oils are mostly 1pt per tsp. All veg except parsnips are 0 points. Potatoes are 100g raw for 1pt. Butternut squash is 0 points and a nice alternative sometimes. Med portion rice (60g uncooked) is 3pts. That seasoning is 0pts

Red Bull is 1.5pt pr can, vodka is 1.5 per shot (UK measures are 1pt but are smaller). If you can, try and get used to sugar free ed Bull or diet coke/diet 7up as they are 0 points.

Finally if you have something with the nut values on it, to work out the points:
    (calories / 70) + (sat fat / 4) = Points
    OR
    (calories / 70) + (total fat / 8) = Points

Sorry that was all a bit stream of conciousness lol

    Hey,

I'm a newbie here I started weight watchers 2 weeks ago and I have been delighted to loose 8lbs :) but I had a disaster today I went out to lunch with work and before I knew it I had ordered a club sandwich ( in brown bread;)) and it came with salad(mainly coleslaw) and Chips. Didnt eat the coleslaw but of course demolished the chips... I didn't really think, I never realised chips came with it and then sur I couldn't leave them behind me:mad:

Saying that I gave myself 16 points for that so if I have my usual sandwich with ww brown bread turkey and low low spread tonight I shoud stay within my 20 points don't you think!!!!!

Just wondering is 16 points enought for that?
Sorry bout long winded post it helps...

Im so annoyed with myself and I was doing so well...
