You get what you pay for! Most of the old Mercs for sale on DD are sheds. In fact most of the cars on DD are sheds full stop. 50% of the people selling can't be bothered putting in the mileage, the NCT status, decent photos or even giving the car a proper wash/vac.

Tell us something we don't know... Joining an owners club is the best way to get something decent. There's a guy in Castlecomer does a lot of top class work on mercs, he sells a few too but no ****e. Some of the posters here might have more helpful info.

a cracking car the 200 Avant - dunno if this one is any good, but the photos and the black wheels make me less likely to think its worth the asking.

Can't see a mileage

They needed a head rebuild after 75k and a full rebuild by 125-150k. Body is probably ok, engine is probably run out

Hi lads
Probably the wrong group for this but not having much joy searching forums for (Wedding cars, classic car rentals content, West of Ireland car rentals)
getting Married next year in sligo and wondering does anyone have a contact who would have a classic in the area to rent/chauffeur for the day?
I'm looking less along the Morgan style and more along the Merc, Porsche, Mustang, MG styles.

any help welcome, If there is a more appropriate thread with up to date posts fell free to suggest also.

It's been asked many times on this forum. I'll give you a summary: private owners of classic cars are forbidden by their insurers to rent their cars out for hire or reward. That's the end of that. You can rent (chauffeur driven or self driven) classic cars alright, but you will pay commercial prices (read: this will cost ya)

Don't restrict your search to the Sligo area, many firms will travel to your area. Have you tried N.I.? I'd say many would travel into Sligo, that industry has been practically wiped out by covid as is most of the PSV industry.

That's another option! Buy a €5k Rolls-Royce, insure it for the year for €200. Use it for your wedding, enjoy it for a while, hope to feck nothing will go wrong with it and sell it on for a few hundred quid less

A regular forum member has a very classy Daimler for sale for that sort of money. In very good nick, NCT and all. You might consider it!

Haha, one other issue is most of the cars are 2 seaters and iv got the small problem of a tall women with a big dress to shove into it aswel.... on "her big day"!!:o

Why would you not bother to take the trim panels off the doors and wings before you respray it! Great interior and cloth interiors on these cars is unusual but even still I'd be very wary. I think is a bit expensive. Ride will be harsh on those 18" rims

Nice Coupe but if its any good its too cheap. The M111 2.2 engine is pokey enough with 150 bhp and the possibility of 40 mpg. Coupes suffer from heated rear window delamination which causes all sorts of rust issues in addition to the normal facelift rust issues. Engine wiring harness and throttle body problems will be evident if not already repaired which at that price I would think they haven't. I'm not a leather interior fan but the wheels are okay ish!

In fairness, its very difficult to tell from photos - you need to see it in the flesh.

Either way, as Unkle says, I couldnt live with the tax for 4 years, and after 30 I'd want a different engine, more cylinders and more grunt.

Good value, low mileage MK2 Fiesta for sale for less than 3 grand.

1984 with 24,000 miles.

If I had any more space in the garage I would be all over this. I have a mint 1985 one. They are a good entry point into classics too. Simple to work on and parts readily available.

This is a nice little project. Would only take some minor cleaning up. If it is rust free then you cant lose money on this one.

we had one as a loaner while our car was having work done one time. With the folks and 3 kids on board it would literally have been quicker to get out and walk.
I think it is quite a rarity in fairness. But for that money I'd have a GTI or at least a clean MK2 Gti instead

I had one as my first car in the early '90s.
Top gear was fairly tall on them, much like the Beetle that preceeded it.

I never thought that they were such a rarity tbh.
Just a normal economy hatchback, fairly basic spec really.

8 grand seems like mad money for it though.

Shame about the brutal photos, most times it points to a car being in average nick. I can't get over how poorly some people advertise cars. No excuse for it these days, a €100 smart phone can take fantastic photos these days.

Lots of people want the manual, but I'd prefer an auto in a car like that myself. Their market is also limited as it's had some modifications that lots of people wouldn't want. No registration shown and 195k miles, it's too expensive even if in good nick.

The 520i for €8k has been there ages, simply not worth the money even in superb condition. It's not as undesirable as the 518i 4 cylinder, but people really want a 525i or higher in the E34.
