Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well, some places say that.....others say it fell at Wolverhampton on "Boxing" Day: https://www.wackyraces.net/in-which-year-did-good-friday-fall-on-boxing-day/

Seems the only thing all agree on is that it's a good quiz question, whether or not there's any actual truth to it....!

What?! Surely it can only be a quiz question, good or otherwise, if it's true!

You see a bear but you can only move south.

What colour is the bear ?

Seeing as you must be standing at the north pole, the bear must be a polar bear...

    2 x Pi x R

    so 2 x 3.14 x 1 = 6.28 feet

How much soil does a round hole contain that measures 5 feet in diameter, and is 16 feet deep ?

    2.5 x 2.5 x pi x 16

    6.25 x Pi x 16 = 100 cubic feet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,715 ✭✭✭golfball37

    2 x Pi x R

    so 2 x 3.14 x 1 = 6.28 feet

The diameter has increased by one.

It’s Roscommon then as the centre of Ireland is just outside Athlone, part of athlone is in Roscommon

no, the radius has. if it's hovering above the surface of the earth by one foot, the diameter has increased by two foot.

Is it not the circumference we are looking for? The earth is a sphere so a line around the equator is a circumference of a circle essentially

it is. So a line that is 1 foot above the ground is 1 foot further from the center of the earth i.e. the radius of the line has increased by 1 foot.

    yes - and the circumference is 2 x pi x r

r has increased by one foot, so the figure increases by 2 x pi in feet.

The correct answer is none, as a hole is by definition, empty !! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,715 ✭✭✭golfball37

    yes - and the circumference is 2 x pi x r

r has increased by one foot, so the figure increases by 2 x pi in feet.

Spot on- I learned circumference was pi x D in school hence my confusion- long time ago now. Of course 2r is D which I didn’t cop immediately!

If the Ring of Kerry is 180km cycling clockwise , how much longer would it
    be anti-clockwise?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 50,181 CMod ✭✭✭✭magicbastarder

i would assume it'd be shorter, because cycling it clockwise would use the outer 'circle' of the roads you'd be cycling it on. cycling it anti-clockwise mean you'd cycle maybe 5-10m inside that route?

Lowry has to be one of them, it’s either Charlie Flanagan or Martin who is the other id say.
