Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wind strong here in Cork City, Roches point at 42kts at the 7pm update and Cork Airport at 37 and rising. Heavy drizzle too with the odd burst of heavy showers. I believe there are no warnings in effect today besides a rain one right?

Very much in the warm sector now here near Tralee at 10.7C , between the warm front that passed over and the oncoming cold front.

Some nice line features on the back edge of the front .

3.6mm so far and getting windy gusting up around 60 km/h

What's the odds that the winds this evening will be worse than anything tomorrow?

There's nothing on paddy power so I'm not sure.

    What location are you?

Latest ECM 12Z from 12.00 Tues , strong winds along the W coastal areas and into the NW and N. Windy across the country on Weds slow to ease.

Could have winds gusting to around 120 km/h in coastal areas in the W , NW and N for around 12 hrs and slowly easing.

Not too sure if the EURO 4 over ding it a bit. Met office did say they expect gusts between 50 and 60 mph overland in the North and maybe up to 80 mph along coasts. Good test to see how the model does.

The EURO 4 would put Kerry and Clare gusting to 120 km/h on coasts for a time early evening Tues ? Probably Galway coasts also more so later in the evening.

    Tipping red warning territory possibly?

Anyone else getting the feeling that people in general might be in for a surprise on this one. Quiet in here even.

In general I think the models at the moment just showing it might reach 130 km/h or thereabouts in coastal fringes only , or of course over high ground .IMO in general I think showing gusts to 120 km/h in coastal areas, up to 110 km/h more inland . That doesn't take away from the fact that it will be a rough spell in the Orange warning areas.

A surprise in what way? Warnings have been issued by ME. If people choose to ignore them that's their own lookout.

Yeah was just going to post , winds here gusting near 60KMH

Ah sure that's a regular type wind....Near Gale/Force 7 in a gust is pretty normal. That's not to say that things will be rather different tomorrow but for the east and south (and parts of the midlands), I'm envisaging this event to be no more than what is expected in a regular winter storm, albeit in early Spring - but still not out of the ordinary *

    * Trying to downplay this in a reverse psychology way :p

Malin head strongest wind gusts currently around 97km/h, Belmullet at 90km/h and both stations closest to Cork City at 86km/h.

A few gusts around 6pm to 8pm here in Newport. Gone very calm in the last hour.

Very squally now here in Connemara, very strong gusts. This particular spell of rough weather we're having feels like it's been going for ages, at my location anyway, and at least another 24hrs or so of it to go it seems.

I drove from Macroom to cork city, it was a horrible drive. The ballincollig bypass is so open, the gusts were shifting the car sideways. Driving rain also as expected with the warning.

Nothing from Graces7 in a long time :(. I miss her descriptive weather updates from the Mayo offshore outpost. I hope she’s ok and has the hatches battened down in preparation for Gareths arrival

Don’t take risks on treacherous boats :D

fun fact, I'm a freelance photographer, I was down at Galway during the massive red warning storm 2 years ago. Was documenting the event as you do. She took a photo of me and posted on social media calling me basically a twat for doing exactly the same thing she was doing.

    EDIT: here it is LOL

    Long story. Discussed elsewhere.

Now can I put the recycle bin out and at what time? I had one hell of a session over the weekend and if this bin goes over, the road will look like a beer can ally. Seriously.

But really seriously sick and tired of arseholes poppin the bin out and then pickin their crap out of my garden. Be careful with your bin tonight. Mine is at the front door, weather watching as usual.

After watching the 9.30 forecast, they really are all about facts, no hype but at the same time it doesn't really instill the dangers either. I usually don't watch the national forecast due to having only Netflix.

She has been on my mind so much the last week , I’m praying she is ok .
I also miss her beautifully written descriptions . Oh I really really hope she is ok .

Is that red line the squall and if so it looks like it'll effect more than just leinster!

Squall line passing over Donegal Town right now. Seriously heavy rain. Wind has been howling for hours.

This could actually be a noticeable storm.... even in Donegal.

I hope this squall isn't as bad as the one we had on Sunday at around 12.45pm, it took out the power and it took near 6 hours to restore it.
The ESB have a busy period...

while winds forecast are not exceptionally bad in the context of the west/nortwest,i think Gareths longevity will probably be responsible for its potentially severest impacts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,693 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Gusts still strong here in Cork City. Airport reporting 91km/h and roches point at 93km/h according to latest MET Reports

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 420 ✭✭Little snowy old me

Very strong wind here in west Dublin. Some really powerful gusts. Around midnight could be interesting if the possible squall line materialises.

Very strong gusts here in Dublin 10. Thanks to this thread I did a bit of preemptive weighing down of a few bits that like to take flight. Bins are outz but thankfully black bin so nice and heavy!
