Certainly not the typical summers day in the South East. Heavy sea fog all evening with visibility very poor now in Wexford

Today was overall fairly dissapointing. The wind has not let up at all and dampened the very warm air over us and we ended up much more cloud than what I was expecting. We reached 22C for a few hours earlier in the afternoon when we had some nice sunny spells but the frequency of the cloud prevented temperatures going higher and that wind still had a cooling add on affect.

Today's max temperatures illustrates how poor it's been across the south and west, this is very similar to how the east was last August with an entire month of cool temperatures and low hanging cloud after a very wet and cool July so I can understand the frustration.

    txint_uk.png

Tomorrow will be more of the same, just not was warm as today, temperatures more average everywhere and there will be plenty of cloud so most places will stay in the teens tomorrow.

    arpegeuk-41-27-0.png?10-18

Tomorrow should be less windy than today thankfully. There will be very little sunshine tomorrow, best chances of some hazy sunshine may be in the south.

    arpegeuk-4-24-0.png?10-17

Saturday will be an improvement, particularly in the south with less of an onshore wind and more in the way of sun, however it looks like many western and northern areas may stay cloudy.

    arpegeuk-41-52-0.png?10-18

Sunday will probably be the warmest day of June 2021 with temperatures up to 26C possible in some areas depending on sunshine.

    arpegeuk-41-75-0.png?10-18

It will stay relatively mild up to Tuesday and then the Atlantic takes over completely from Wednesday with a fairly significant pattern change into a much cooler airmass.

If it's cloudy all day everyday, I don't mind if it's chilly. Cannot stand dark damp days that are overly warm, ugh. Hate feeling like I'm living in an armpit.

    Outdoor dining
    LOL
I’d be happy if the weather allowed a beer out in the back garden at some stage this summer :(

Is it safe to say that other than the very east of the country the rest of us are experiencing a very meh summer so far with the prospect of it declining even further after a brief respite possibly this weekend-I’ll believe it when I see it!

The gfs ensembles are a horror show tonight. Hopefully it doesn’t verify. Very cool and lots of showers. Thankfully the ecm is not as bad. Still poor output for approaching the longest day of the year.

I can’t imagine the outdoor dining is to appealing at the moment. Wind whipping around dull skies and drizzle. No thanks. Roll on July 19

Max of 15.3C here today in East Cork.

Max so far in June of 19.8C. Still hasn't gone over the 20C.

Compared to the west, the east was a sunny tropical paradise last July and August.

Nowhere had a good July last summer, a month of rain and 14C.

Temperatures here in Meath also struggled throughout August 2020 with endless days of cloud and 15C.

June 2020 started with the two warmest days of 2020 and by June 3rd a cool northerly took over and the rest of the month was showery and the final week of June was a deluge and this continued throughout July. Last summer gave 2012 and the awful summers of 2007/2008 a run for their money.

I enjoyed that breeze today, and still nice and wild sounding now. If it was totally calm out the sticky humidity would be horrific.

I don't remember much about the rain last July or August to be honest, I just remember the eternal low cloud. July & August 2019 (the year before) however, were, by any stretch, very very wet; yet, still nowhere near as dull as last summer.

I hope it wasn't Indian grub Delhi?

Eternal sunshine paradise here in Laois /Offaly :D

In all seriousness though, it's been very pleasant but this afternoon and evening' s weather was very odd altogether..like an eclipse coolness hangover, with intermittent blasts of humidity.

Actually very pleasant out tonight. Quite breezy, but definitely a June night. My two Tom cats think it's the cat's pyjamas. Perfect hunting night. Which, if the pubs were open, it would be too. A proper summer's day and night overall. The fields are teeming with life.

    We really weren't..

Out of the (very limited) stations available for sunshine data, both Casement and Dublin Apt were the dullest synoptic stations during August in terms of absolute sun totals including only 97 hrs at D.A. which was a new August record.

Gurteen was the dullest in July with 93 hrs followed by Belmullet with 97 hrs and Dublin Apt 104 hrs.

It was the south that was more the 'sunny tropical paradise', at least going by Cork Airport which was the sunniest in both months but still below average.

For the summer as a whole, only Belmullet was duller than Dublin Apt out of the 7 stations listed in the seasonal summary charts, albeit Gurteen was even duller than both with its inland location probably being part of the reason why, and it was the dullest summer on record at D.A. with only 331 hrs (3.6 hrs per day) when a typical 1981-10 summer should have around 494 hrs (5.4 hrs per day), so a remarkable deficiency.

Wherever you were, it was a cloudy to very cloudy summer, even by Irish standards, and I'd rather it be completely erased from existence. The only 'good' moments I can take from it are the Neowise Comet during July and the abundance of good noctilucent cloud displays during the season that were visible when the cloud would fortunately break up.

This week has been very good in the east, it has to be said. I know it's been the opposite in many other parts, which is a pity, but that's the price we pay for a moist subtropical southwesterly.

Pauldry you have me in stitches with that post!

Now don't linch me but it actually had been summer in Dublin since 31st May.

We have hit 20 degrees every day bar 1, no rain recorded at Dublin Airport in June and I've been in summer clothes everyday and never cold, that's a record!

Yesterday was very windy no doubt but still over 20 degrees.

I'll take this summer in Dublin as the song goes!

Very good here in Meath too since May 27th, similar to Dublin with temperatures reaching 20C or slightly higher most days and with the exception of a few days it's been fairly sunny. Last summer was so bad (maybe 6 decent days over the 3 months) that even if the weather turns next week and remains rubbish all the way to September, this summer is already better than last summer here.

Yea it’s been decent in Dublin so far this month. Looking forward to Saturday and Sunday because from the middle of next week it all goes downhill especially with the temperatures.

Really tempted to book a sun holiday for August because I’m almost certain it will be crap here around then.

    Hurry up vaccine

Spot on Gonzo. I'll get a 'beach day' again on Sunday for second time in short while so that's a sign of good summer.

Now we live near coast so at sea all year around but a real 'beach' day when it's actually lovely and warm and can swim in sea without being freezing is rare enough for me.

Last year we went over June Bank Holiday and never a nice enough day again over the whole summer.

Last year we went over June Bank Holiday and never a nice enough day again over the whole summer.

It was lovely enough for me on 24th June last year also when I was greeted with a display of altocumulus floccus ahead of the storms later on the 25th which made for a rare sunset with all the sun's rays vividly scattered in the sky. I posted a pic of it in the summer thread last year.

July there were no beach days at all that I remember. If it wasn't too cloudy, it was too chilly. If it wasn't too chilly, it was too cloudy and or too wet. The one day I did go to the beach all month for a stroll (19th) had a sunny evening with good visibility after a cloudy start once the cold front had passed but the temperature was only 13C by that time in a north to northwesterly airflow so felt pretty cool.

8th August was another beach day for me. There was a short period of high cloud around midday which turned skies hazy for a bit but still on the bright side and didn't last long. This was the one day of the August 'warm spell' that I can speak positive about. Nice evenings on 7th, 13th, 14th and 15th August but much of those days were cloudy. Other times, we had low cloud and fog come in off the Irish Sea with the airmass being of a very humid nature.

Have personally found this June so far meh and forgettable in Dublin. It's not been disastrous but not brilliant in my opinion either. Been dry and temperatures above average although nothing noteworthy with sunny spells many days but no standouts like 30 May was. Goes without saying that I'd still take it over what the west have had this month, and 2020 though, no doubt about that. Besides, at least got to see the partial eclipse yesterday.

Last Summer was much much better in Sligo.

Had good sunny days most of June.
Granted it wasnt roasting but 18c a lot of days. Then from June 26th through most of July was bad.
2nd half of July was OK but 1st half was like this June. Very little sun but its warmer this June.

Got a flukey good 10 days of fine weather last August.

An absense of real warmth and sun this year. Even the warm days are so windy youd set off a forest fire if you had a barbeque.

Spring is always sunnier than Summer here. Even the freezing one weve just had.

Maybe the cooler and fresher weather will at least mean more sunshine for the West in between the rain ...and wind.

Also just saw the UK Met Office weekend weather
They predict cloud all day tomorrow here until 7 or 8pm
They predict RAIN Sunday morning then cloud until about 4pm then maybe sun.
    Jeez

An 'Ag' 7 day report from this time last year. To my untrained eye, it would seem the Dublin region, though still below average, was still doing better for sunshine than most other parts of the country, at least during this period of the month, so the claim made yesterday that 'the west is only getting a small dose of what the east suffered last June' seems a bit suspect to be perfectly honest.

It’s only June 11. Why are people writing off summer?

I personally think Dublin has done ok in spring and summer so far. I’ve written one day off from cycling or hiking since April and I’m a wimp - no rule 5 for me.

superb weather here in Dublin 5 since end of May. Looking like a really warm weekend, bring it on!

I have a much better feeling about this summer. Last year was unusual in that it was the driest spring for something like 30 years.......March, April and May in Dublin were unbelievably dry and sunny, just as well because that was during the 1st lockdown. I think the weather turned in mid June and the summer was a poor one.

This time May was poor but every since about 28th May, the weather here has been excellent and its been over 20 degrees nearly every day. I was having evening pints the other day and when walking back at 10pm, it was 20 degrees. It felt like walking around on the continent on a balmy evening.

Lets hope Summer 2021 is a good one, very good so far

Good to see Cork and the south coast in general finally getting some summer time temperatures and sunshine. Back here in Meath it's lovely, it may not be as warm as yesterday but with a lighter wind and much more sunshine it actually feels warmer. Temperature now back up to 19C.
