Be careful what you wish for, if some lager louts is the most the French have to deal with then we'll be happy. Except Zebra3 maybe ;)

This is the biggest security operation carried out by the French authorities since the second world war and the threat of attack is extremely severe. They really don't need this nonsense from pissed up fools.

It's so severe they're going ahead with all the football.

Ah, the poor English 'fans' getting attacked by those French 'hooligans'.

I'd be more impressed if they did it in Syria or Iraq, but I doubt we'll ever see that video.
I know Israel are in it but it would be a neat trick for England fans to chant anything at a European Cup in Syria or Iraq.

For what it's worth ACC Mark Roberts - head of football policing in England - confirmed in a statement that a group of about 70 youths approached the pub where the English fans had congregated. No issues before this apparently. Just for a bit of balance:)
Sssshhh. This isn't one of those boring "factual" threads.

So the police are liars then? They said they were attacked by a gang of locals. Who to believe... England hating randomer or police... hmmmm.

Marseille is France's crime capital. The fighting last night started after locals attacked England fans.

It will be interesting to see if they have the cajones to try it with the Russians.

So is that why the English chap who was arrested assaulted a barman?

There is a history of English fans causing trouble on the continent which cant be denied.

There's a history of a lot of things which nobody is trying to deny.
There's also the fact that the police said this fight was started by locals which plenty are certainly trying to deny. Or ignore.

Once again dastardly Johnny Foreigner is having a go at the peace loving England supporters. Why does everybody keep picking on them?

Why does everybody keep picking on them?
Because they don't care about the actual facts of the case (as related by the police) and are only delighted to bash England even when it was the French who started the violence?

That was last night. What about today(Friday)?

What reason is there for England fans throwing bottles at the coppers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭markupmales

    That was last night.
Correct. That's what this thread is about. You've obviously noticed the title up there above us. Well spotted sir.

I pity the French police having to put up with this shíte for the next few weeks.

Well if you want to change the topic I suppose that's up to you. I think starting a new thread is the protocol usually though, yes?

There's plenty of photos on Twitter of Russian Ultras on their way to greet the English today.

You can understand feeling aggrieved by heavy-handed police tactics if you weren't the instigator of trouble. Of course I'm not condoning violence, but if you treat people unfairly, you should probably expect some kind of reaction.

Plenty of respected journos on twitter saying police tactics haven't changed since 98.

This thread is about England supporters at the Euros. I fail to see how or why more arrests, fighting and general fvckology by the same bunch of knuckle draggers at the same locations as yesterday should warrant a new thread.

Anyway, I'll leave you to your agenda, whatever that might be. Best of luck with the re-reg.

Ah right, so you didn't actually bother to read the title of the thread before wading in.
Here, I'll give you a hand: "ISIS Where are you?"
It's a thread about England fans chanting "ISIS Where are you?". K?

That says plenty about you to be honest.

Twenty locals could beat two 80 year English grannies half to death and you'd still try and blame them.

Still, I suppose the local guy arrested was minding his own business and the England fan that ended up in hospital hit himself in the face with a chair.

The locals were not innocent in this Fred, no question about that.

But I find it hard to believe the English fans are blameless. The English fan who was arrested was allegedly for assaulting a barman, at least that appears to be in most of the media I have seen. I don't think you can use intimidation by the locals as an excuse for that.

No, you can't but during the course of the day, the story has changed considerably.

The media started out by making this out to be a full scale riot by England fans, with two arrested, tear gas used blah blah blah.

As eye witness reports come out (including those from police) we now have a group of England fans drinking all day without incident, until 30 to 40 locals turn up and it all kicks off, with two people arrested, one local, one English. One believed to be arrested for assaulting a bar man.

The England fans aren't angels and part of the problem is that they take over areas and don't run when threatened, but Marseille fans have been leaving posters claiming that this is a high risk area as it is a Marseille fan zone. They also have a much more recent history of violence than England fans do.

England fans have a few quiet drinks whilst Marseille fans riot isn't a story many people in Ireland want to hear though.
