This is the biggest security operation carried out by the French authorities since the second world war and the threat of attack is extremely severe. They really don't need this nonsense from pissed up fools.

Sorry I dont know the why -I just feel there is something in it.

After all the talk of the security threat , possibly because it really is defiant to ISIS and what ISIS stands for?

It will hardly catch on amongst other fans... you never know...

Lots of easily identifiable people in those videos , send them back to England and take their passports.

What is it with England fans ? - a f*cking ball hasn't even been kicked yet !

You seem to just make blanket baseless statements.

Yep. They have won all their games by decapitating their opponents.

I'd be more impressed if they did it in Syria or Iraq, but I doubt we'll ever see that video.

Isn't the British army fighting ISIS? If they're looking for them why don't they go join the army then?

Otherwise it's just mindless 'I'm hard because I'm in a big group'

Where any of these guys there?

At the moment no, unless you include air strikes, but no boots on the ground.

I do agree that joining the army might be more effective than chanting at a pub though :D

Marseilles is practically an outpost of Muslim North Africa. With that in mind I'm slightly surprised that UEFA thought it a good idea to base the England team there. Should have sent Ireland or Switzerland.

To be fair to England supporters, supporters from every country are going to be blind drunk for days on end over there, with supporters from a few countries getting into fights. The local hoods will always seek out England at these tournaments because of their reputation.

Add the political aspect, and it'll snowball even if most of the supporters are OK.

"Beautiful game" bloody hell, how long does it take them to realise this happens too often.

    Conspiracy theory time!

When the locations were announced Platini was in charge of UEFA. UEFA and FIFA hated England and their media because of what they were doing in trying to expose the corruption in football.
So they put their match in Marseilles in the hope that there would be provocation, trouble and thus embarrass the english FA and distract the media from their UEFA/FIFA witchhunt.
    Maybe!

As much as I'd like to believe that the once wonderful footballer turned corrupt shill plotted this, I can't really!

I mean they qualified for the Eurovision, so why not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,188 ✭✭✭✭jmayo

    Isn't this the rematch from 98 ?

From what I remember the police let the locals and the Tunisian fans have a good crack at the English fans before they waded in.

I do agree basing the English near the likes of Marseille or Paris is more than a little stupid.

Actually the headline that this is the France's biggest security operation since WWII doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
They got their ar**es kicked in that encounter.

BTW I reckon any ISIS team would have a lot of Chopper this and Chopper thats on it.
And it would be very ease to lose the head when playing them. :D

I am not allowed discuss …

Just listening to Pat Kenny, and the whole place (France that is) seems to be coming to a halt - trains, busses, flights, you name it. The unions have decided to try and **** up the biggest sporting event in the country since the 1998 World Cup.

Marseille is France's crime capital. The fighting last night started after locals attacked England fans.

It will be interesting to see if they have the cajones to try it with the Russians.

In fairness the locals over there are vicious and always attack supporters from other nations.

They are of Algerian, moroccan etc descent.

They are notorious pickpockets too using mopeds to attack and rob and there has been numerous stabbings through the years of foreign innocent people.

Marseille fans rioted in the Netherlands last year, again against Rennes in March and also against Bordeaux in April.

They should be very careful what they wish for.

For what it's worth ACC Mark Roberts - head of football policing in England - confirmed in a statement that a group of about 70 youths approached the pub where the English fans had congregated. No issues before this apparently. Just for a bit of balance:)

And the two England fans arrested turns out to be one, the other being local.

And there was no damage to property, other than a chair broken over an England fan's head.

I've seen a few videos of some chairs being flung about, but they look the patio furniture sort, so no damage I guess :)
