Surely Holloway gets a shot if he beats Lamas? That'd be 9 wins a row and it's not as if he's beating poor fighters either. Fili, Swanson, Oliveria, Stephens and maybe Lamas too.

I would back Holloway to beat anyone in the division bar Conor himself and Yair Rodriguez are the future pair of them about 24 each I think some good years ahead for them.

I got a feeling Lamas might well pull off the upset tonight,Max's run has been amazing since the Conor loss but if the wrestler question applied to Conor for everyone before the Mendes fight at least,i think it definitely applies to Holloway.

He hasn't faced many top heavy elite grinding style wrestlers and Lamas is no pushover,he is easily the toughest fight Holloway has had since the loss to Conor.

Since when is Lamas a wrestler? he throws capoeira kicks more than shoots takedowns max holloway beat bermudez who is a proper wrestler (well not in the judges eyes but I had him winning that fight,he also beat Jeremy Stephens a decent wrestler.

Since college he was a wrestler.Hardly would bring up Bermudez which was obviously a close fight,Lamas beat him a lot more decisively.

Either way you are mixed up if have Stephens down as a decent wrestler and you dismiss the ground game of a decorated college wrestler like Lamas with a Black Belt in JJ,he is no slouch by any means and as i said before is easily Max's hardest fight since Conor.

Hahahaha, Rockhold has been caught out lying about his MCL "tear". What an idiot.

    http://www.mmamania.com/2016/6/3/11856616/csac-calls-luke-rockholds-bluff-confirms-his-mcl-tear-is-just-a-sprain?_ga=1.97074843.545802770.1461892999
As soon as the press conference is over, the California State Athletic Commission calls and says, 'The fight's off, this guy says his knee is blown out,'" said UFC president Dana White in a recent interview with ESPN's Sports Nation. "It ends up, he sprained his knee 12 weeks ago. So, I don't know what the upside for him was in saying that. I think he was just trying to, you know, they were going at it [at the news conference], and he said, 'You know what? I think so little of you, I actually blew my MCL and I will crawl into the Octagon and beat you.' It backfired, because the California commission was ready to pull the fight."

Haven't seen Max fight since v McG, anyone know what he has done since to improve so much in that time?

He just looks more comfortable in there, he's finding his range much more comfortably. His striking while always good, looks more high level. He has also become adept at disguising the fact that he has switched stances, throws a lot of fighters off. His clinch work is probably the most improved, his BJJ has definitely come along too. Wrestling would still appear to be his weakness though, but his TDD hasn't been tested in a while.

Lamas is past his best already and Holloway is getting better every fight. This should be a rout in favour of Holloway.

Who gets round 1. 10-10 maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,562 ✭✭✭tinpib

That was amazing. One of the most exciting rounds I've seen in yonks. Reminded me of that heavyweight fight a while back with Travis Browne I think it was. Real see-saw battle.

Only staff and a few hardcore fans there to see it though which is a shame for the fighters.
