Plenty of time on the taper to manage the healing G. Take care.

Just catching up, sorry to hear about that scare. Great diagnosis, so look after yourself.

    Night run. Meh! ;)

Thanks all, funny said to Physio hundreds of miles without a hitch, and as he said only takes one mile or 100m. Also mentioned hydration, which thinking
hasn't been as good as it could over last week or so, I know FBOT mentioned
as well, was cursing night run until physio put in prospective. He also said to
make sure to keep taking electrolyte drinks especially when training load heavy
as very important for muscle repair.

Gave us all a scare there G! Glad there's nothing sinister going on. Feet up now, all to play for in a couple of weeks.

Some dry needle work on calf today, not to bad getting done but bit sore now
another opinion that isn't a tear, but rekons was bad idea going hard in a race
at the end of Marathon cycle, where wouldn't have been pushing as hard up to
now, but who knows. Was able to do 25 single leg calf raises, although sore
could have done some more so Physio no 2 thinks progressing well with healing
so stretching & excercising till weekend, no running and then see where I am
at next week. Couldn't manage 1 calf raise Monday.

Anyone any experience with this if not much running over next two weeks
is plan for 3.30 out the window and if so how much would you scale back by
or just play by ear on the day all going well till then. My own feeling would
be to try few short slow runs next week if feeling better and pull plug if not
going well, wouldn't like to find out shortly after start line it's a busted flush
think l'd rather take a chance early next week and find out.

Plan not gone yet as you are in taper mode anyway so I don't think you should scale back ambitions just yet.

Don't panic and go easy. If told to take a few days rest then do and see how it is after.

told take right up to start line to give best chance of full healing, but not
to sure that will really work either.

if not already doing so, get a set of compression sock and wear them as much as possible, it will help the muscle to repair.

Personally I have found kinesiology tape to help significantly when the calf is giving me trouble.

Wait and see how it responds to rest before making any decisions.

You have made huge progress since Sunday night so just keep being patient and doing what you are doing. Another 3 or 4 days of the same type of progress and you will be good to go. P&D view would be is you lose less than 10 days at this stage of the training cycle then you necessarily need to revise your goal. I would just do the rehab and don't waste any energy thinking about possible scenarios for another week anyway.

BTW Ferris has plenty of experience with both calf injuries and breaks in training at this stage of a cycle so give him a shout if you want his twopence worth.

Yep, you started the trend

Good advice from aquinn and FBOT. Take it easy, no panic yet.

Agree with all the above. Yes, I am sceptical about compression socks (tape and dry needles too) but I don't think they do any harm and I'm a firm believer in wearing what feels comfortable and doing what works for you.

I think FBOT means you do NOT necessarily need to revise goal yet. Sounds like you're making good progress already so no need for the taper madness, you're a marathon sophomore now. ;)

Well spotted D. Always like to throw in the odd deliberate error to see who's paying attention ;)

I'm even taking tumeric in my coffee, apprantly cucumn aids muscle repair, throwing kitchen sink at it.

    Sun 28th

2mile walk to get puncture fixed on bike, 7.5 mile cycle out to Howth and
up to summit, puncture at top. 3 miles walk to bottom and then cyclist FBOT
passed on way to summit while training for Boston stopped and gave me lift
to Lidl Baldoyle, and tells me how flexible FBOT is in YOGA class to go with
his Superman Running, couldn't make it up. calf feeling much better after
    today's workout.

Good news in the calf front but please stay away from howth summit on foot or by bike for the rest of the week.

The hay is in the barn. Don't play with matches near the barn.

Will do, thought might loosen out on bike, walking wasn't the intention. Will stay
    on the flat.

Just catching up here. Hope the calf is much better now. Sounds like it anyway from your most recent posts.

Sounds like you are doing everything possible to get it right. Lots of epsom salts baths too might help.

Fingers crossed for things sort themselves out this week for you and that you'll be raring to go at the weekend.

Thanks R, about 80% better in a week, so hopefully will continue on same course a few more cycles to keep up fitness.

Just to add to Ferris's comment don't do anything daft G!! don't worry about your fitness, you can't loose it in a week, go back and look at your log, add up all the miles and all the long runs you've done over the last few months, you've a week to D day, nice easy cycles with no hills!!

    You have this.

Thanks AM, bit more dry needling today and a few cycles, no more madness,
so if progress same this week as last week should be no real issues. Advice rest
strengthen bit cycling and should be good to go. Worst outcome is blowup or
Proper calf tear but won't know till get going next week, if that happens she
suggested 5-6 weeks rehab and get going for Dublin, love the positivity at end:)
