Arnotts? I never even would have thought of that. Thanks man. Stupid boards not notifying me at all though... I'll check tomorrow when I head into town.
Following up on this, I didn't have time to do a proper search for what turned out to be a toy shop sandwiched in between the first and second floors of Arnotts then, but on Saturday I did and got my hands on Streetwise. Now Prowl has his cop buddy. Hurrah! There was also some Rescue Bots and Angry Birds stuff there too, if anyone is into that I guess.

complete set of defensor limbs in smyths in tallaght.

and as pointed out by mark theyve got a few scattershots and onslaughts in stock too.

i have to say i find the manner of releasing the limbs bloody infuriating. you'd think if your gonna have the limbs in you'd have a hotspot on the shelf, but no.

the "betatron" combined mode uses the optimus maximus limbs so you can at least put him together now but its just bloody annoying to not know (less your good on the net) whether you can make bruticus or not. i wouldnt be surprised if its hitting sales.

plus how bloody long has silverbolt been available now, yet the original optimus mold has disappeared long ago.

they just seemed to have rolled the combiner wars stuff out in the most bizarre way possible. which is a shame considering how cool its been.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

All of Defensor and "Betatron" in Smyth's in Swords this weekend. A couple of the usual lurking Silverbolt, Whirl, Rhinox etc too. Ultra Magnus still in stock.

    Hey all,

So my little fella has gotten into Transformers (like his Daddy before him - yay! :p) and wants some for his birthday as he loves that Angry Birds Transformers game. He's looking for Soundwave and Starscream in particular (or Star-ice-cream as he calls him.. he is only almost 4! :)) and I had a quick look on Amazon for ideas but thought I'd ask here.

Preferably G1-style and colours but also simple enough to transform and not TOO expensive given his age. I'll give him a few years before he's up for Masterpiece level stuff :p Any suggestions appreciated!

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

Soundwave I've got no ideas for, but Starscream recently enough had a decent Legion Class that was simple to transform. You might get lucky and find him in Smyths or Banba. There's still some Angry Birds TF stuff in Arnotts, and there's a code in the boxes to unlock the Jenga mode (I think, could just be gems or something).

If you're close enough and can manage it.
Bring him to Dublin City comics and let him go through the second hand boxes.
Trip to the store should be fun without a toy buying at the end of it.

The Combiner wars figures might just be a little too complicated for them.
But the Rescue Bots line might be worth a look.
There is a Starscream Mr. potato head out there as well.

Unfortunately bringing him to Dublin City Comics isn't a runner as he's at the other end of the country :(

But I did swing by Smyths Carrickmines this afternoon and picked him up a few of the Rescue Bots and a Steeljaw (as he wanted one of those too)

I was kinda tempted by the Skywarp I saw too but at €63 I had to remind myself these are for him, not his daddy :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭MarkHall

    Never forget!

    Daddy's are people too.

The Deluxe Steel Jaw is nice.
Got the nephews teh Thunderhoof 3 step. And they love the Tractor Transformer.
Really hoping the Deluxe makes an appearance on the shelves here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

Smyth's in Swords had Deluxe Fracture and some Prime redeco in, so he might turn up. Onslaught on shelves too, but no sign of Bruticus limbs. They seem to be getting sparse though, in a much smaller shelf space than previously and bugger all there so they might be restocking soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,928 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Update.. So in the end as well as the 2 Rescue Bots and the Steel Jaw, I got him a Voyager FOC Soundwave and a Robot Masters Starscream

Both pretty cool and reasonable at about €65 for both.. I kinda want a Starscream myself now though :p

was walking through smyths in tallaght today and they have a full set of sky reign limbs for sale.

    21.99 each.

no sign of sky lynx though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,797 ✭✭✭ChopShop

Sky Lynx is a rare...errrm bird... even in the US it seems.

Plus Combaticon limbs never appeared here.

Odds, not good. But what's new?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭MarkHall

I got my combaticons coming into Dublin City comics shortly.

Shame about Skylynx. As he looks proper awesome.

Also Tesco selling Kreo Devastator for €11

I think the distinction is that Sky Lynx is scarce full stop, whereas the Combatcon limbs are easy enough to buy online (?)

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

theres seems to be some sort of fight going on between amazon and one of its sellers in relation to the platinum edition trypticon.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/TRANSFORMERS-Platinum-Edition-Trypticon-Figure/dp/B014KEWJQY/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0888ZDYSB1MZV09X1PR8

theyve been slashing the price day after day. at the time of posting its gone from about 100 STG to now 75 STG.

I missed out on him last time when he was 78 STG so dived in to get him at 82 STG.when amazon counterd a drop to 85 .

Dunno how low he's gonna go but the balls in amazons court to counter the last drop from the other retailer. either way its good news for us.

    :D

Shockwave is a great little figure. Not too pushed on Wreckgar.

And wanted to have a look at pipes in the flesh but no sign of him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

Looks like Bruticus is fully on shelves at all Smyth's now. RID four pack minicons have started to show up too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

seen brawl in smyths in fonthill so the whole gangs gotta be coming.

they didnt have any sky reign limbs though.

also the voyager torso's are going for 15.50 which is great. they look to have got new shipments of em in too as they had the first hot spot ive seen in ages . onslaught scattershot and silverbolt were there too

been thinking of getting a superion so now looks the time to pick up a cheap silverbolt. it makes me chuckle to see him going for less than one of his arms.

    :D

when i was in tallaght last they had battlecore op back in too. i presume that'd have to be half price too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Deano7788

All Bruticus limbs as well as Leader Skywarp are in Smyths in Limerick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭MarkHall

seen brawl in smyths in fonthill so the
    :D

Limb are down to 14.50 in Blanch.
Be a good time to pick up an entire combiner for less than 75 quid.

Which may be what I did for Bruticus even thou I have the Unite warriors one on the way.

Curse my impatience! I paid full whack for Brawl just last weekend AND I ended up out in Blanch this weekend just gone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 132 ✭✭AxlF

Generations Ultra Magnus down to €42.50 in Smyths.
If you don't have this guy you should grab him - he is one of the best looking robots on the shelf. I cannot recommend him enough.

    Quoted for truth!

Up there with Springer and Armada Starscream for best bots bought in the last few years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

smythe in tallaght have a load of leader skywarps for the same price as magnus.

(they still have him too :) )

they only had optimus maximus limbs though. the exception being a lone hound.

    €23 for a deluxe!

    No sign in Carrickmines yet.
Various reports of them spotted at Smyths in the UK too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

Smyth's Swords has them. I grabbed Blurr for myself and they had two of Skullsmasher. Only had Sentinel Prime in for the Voyagers, and only one of him. Scourge is blatantly a shellformer in hand, and there's way too much partsforming for my liking on these guys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Deano7788

Smyths in Limerick has them in stock as well, both voyagers and all 4 Deluxes, although the stock seemed fairly limited.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,928 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Galvatron looks alright? I'm still tempted by that Skywarp too :P

The starscream of it is awesome!

    €23!!
I'm going to wait a while for these to go down in price a bit but I want SKullsmasher... i want him a lot.

ditto for smyths in tallaght , but theyve no blurs.

the head on galvatron looks a bit naff TBH , BUT the rest of him is kick arse IMO so i can see myself getting him.

as an aside theres bugger all combiner wars stuff left in terms of limbs. in tallaght they only had sunstreakers , one mirage and one ironhide.

that said they look alright next to each other in terms of scale. i was comparing a sunstreaker and a hardhead and all i could think of was "we were THIS close to a IDW Headmaster sunstreaker"

    :D:D:D:D

on the price point €23 aint that far away from €21.99 that the CW limbs went for. but i agree its pricey and as the latter went to €14.50 i can see a drop for the TR stuff down the line.

gotta say though this line is the first in an age where i really want to pick up most of it. that scourge is really nice and while ill pass on alot of the legends and leader stuff i can see myself gettting all the deluxes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

Headmasters as a concept never really made sense to me. If there had been a headmaster Sunstreaker then I'd have had to get him what with the comics and all, but other than that I'll probably only get Blurr because I hadn't already got Blurr. It'll mostly be Legends for me for this run I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭MarkHall

If there was a head master sunstreaker. I'd have to army build his ass.
Cause you know that's how I roll.
    250px-MaximumDinobots1_SunstreakerClones.jpg

I mean you say the Vehicon and Stockade Madness.

picked up a blurr in jervis streets smyths on a whim.

man i wasnt expecting that colour ! almost dark aquamarine. theres some lovely detail on the bot and whilst im not the biggest fan of the character im glad i picked him up as i was hmmning and haaawing about it.

the whole wave seems to have sold out in the various smyths in dublin now. the only lad ive seen left is sentinel prime who seems to be a bit of a shelfwarmer. last deluxe i saw was a scourge in jervis st

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

had a root around smyths in fonthill today (had to get out of the fecking sun ! :) ) and all theyve got left of the first wave is one sentinel prime.....

....they DO have 2 leader blasters and 2 leader powermaster optimus primes though.

    :D:D:D:D

61.99 a piece . so i presume theyre in all the other stores by now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,797 ✭✭✭ChopShop

I'm not against characters that were not Headmasters before being remade as such. Can't call the pricing bargainous, but could live with it if they were what i wanted.

All i really want from G1 characters at this point though is something definitive. Would sooner buy the likes of Cupola or Iron Will and be done with the characters they represent than settle for the Titans Return versions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

on the price issue i reckon its only a matter of time before they go the same way as the leaders in combiner wars.

so if your patient (and theyre still knocking about) ya should be able to get em for 42 or so with the deluxes going for 15.

ive no prob with characters thatve never been headmasters getting the titan treatment either. hell if anything its given us stuff like blur and scourge with a really nice head sculpt.

the main concern i have with em TBH is how they impact the comics as theyve built an entire universe at IDW thats incompatible with whole swathes of it. galvatron in particular is problematic as his whole backstory makes him the last guy to submit to the process.

i trust the creators there but hasbro mandates have buggered up storylines before at em. fingers crossed itll go ok.

and hell i GOTS to see what theyve got instore with trypticon

    :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

checked out smyths in tallaght and theyve got em all in.

i picked up a hardhead and a skullcruncher (im not callin him smasher :) )

    only one galvatron left though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Arquinsiel

Titan returns Fort max is up on amazon now as a prime (so free delivery) and fullfilled by amazon option.

its £164.99 which today is €202.

i dunno if we'll see him on the shelves here at all so for those that want him there ya go. im tempted myself but TBH im leaning more and more to picking up the encore reissue instead. i just dont have the Gra for all that electronic's mullarky when i can get more guns and companions instead (cog etc) sides that city mode really annoys me.

    linky below.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transformers-Generations-Titans-Fortress-Maximus/dp/B01EMW4Q9W/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GB34ZST1HH6WDT7WDH3H

by the way there seems to be a deal on devastor too (for a boxset of the lad)

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

oh here by the way seen this up on youtube for those that DO get the new fort max but arent keen on the citymode.

lad here shows how to lock the legs in more securely for the "fan mode"

i think it works pretty good myself. its got a bit of a medieval castle/fortress going on at the top of the legs. ya can even stand figs in side em. makes me wonder if it was actually designed like this but they went the splits route instead.
