The criticism of the beta was much more muted, maybe people didn't see it getting rolled out being as bad as it was, now it's here. Gulp.

I clicked on my profile the other day and most of my posts don't appear when you go for the equivalent of "Find all my posts". It still works in vbulletin. I really don't want to disrespect the people who put work into this but unless it's getting some sort of overhaul I can see the site losing valued contributors.

I think the problem is very simple, form follows function, whoever designed this new layout got it arsé about face.

We should form a union to fight it!

Too much white. Too much space all around that's blank
Where's the button for "Last Unread" post in a thread?

There is but it doesn't come up consistently. Sometimes "Last Post by" will be a link.

As I'm outside Ireland i have the new format as default, I have encountered the following issues:
    • Opening threads brings you to page #1 not the last page.
    • Stickies that we considered important are now hidden under a different tab.
    • URL and QUOTE buttons not working at times and need to be entered manually.
    • Too much garbage on each page and not enough posts
    • I would go back to the Legacy site but from what I read, that's going away.

Is the stepwise regional rollout an attempt to boil the frogs slowly?
Or is it seen as good practice to use the diaspora as a FOA site?

What users like VS This is as business and we need ad money.

A resounding win for the adverts.

I hate the way waayyyy less of the screen is dedicated to what I want to read, I can't scan through multiple posts without scrolling.

It's amusing that this is someone's job frankly. If you had paid an agency and they delivered something with such an overwhelming negative reaction you would be looking for your money back.

I have to imagine this was an in house job, and as with almost all in house "have a go at it" efforts, it's tremendously poorly thought out.

Would a Poll like this not have been more useful before launch? or before investing huge amounts of time/money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,516 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

96% of people hate it according to the poll.
The new site is horrendous and looks like it was designed by a complete idiot.
Either that or boards completely sold out to advertisers and said to hell with what our users say about it.

Basically the new boards is UNUSABLE.

No one want to become a member as the site is useless in the new format, text missing , screen juming aroun, text doesn't appear as you pe

Tried MS Edge, Crome, E and appears that every third or rth lou type do't appear on screen

    WT, waste of time.

Don't prase thm up mate, have to retype most of the text twice to get it on the page

Ah I don't think it's too bad, I'd get used to it eventually.

On a mobile it's good but cluttered.

On a desktop, all the text is shoved to one side so the ad can run down the side. Rather than get a crick in my neck I found it easier to just turn on adblock, which is hardly the intention I imagine :) (sorry).

If the numbers are falling, I'm not sure this new lick of paint will fix it & the problems are more fundamental - there's more venues out there for discussion. I'm not a big fan of places like Reddit for anything other than cat pictures - it's too prone to groupthink, topics are all jumbled together, interesting threads get buried and you only get to see those which are "popular".

You have to press the button that says "Responsive Site" in the footer

I've tried to like the new layout and give it chance, I really have but I just don't like it. It's nuts that they're rolling it out like this and that they have done so in such a state.

I viewed the site without adblock and was fairly amazed at how much they broken the site up for adverts. Add to the fact all of that added empty space means more scrolling to read the same amount of content is just so off-putting.

Of course there's the obvious need for ads but they actually separate up the topics in such a jarring way from their size. Add all those adverts on top of the increased need to try and read things on this layout is a pain, it's too much.

Looking at how my profile is squished between giant adverts is a bit much, to be honest.

On After Hours for example on top of the usual 3 adverts on the top, side, and bottom there's 3 more ad banners that breaks the forum up into chunks (There's more topics below the bottom advert I didn't include in the pic)

The absolute biggest problem for me is that the new layout removes the individuality of people here. Users aren't as easily recognisable and just sort of mesh new & old users together in a sea of white and grey....with adverts.

    The site just feels.........cheap.

I think it reflects a change in who they want using the site.

This new layout feels more like what you would find on a consumer issues site, where most people only ever post once or twice and then **** off when their question is answered by the small band of die hard 'experts'.

Like was said above, users seems less individual. The vbulletin layout felt more committed or something, like you really had a personality on the site and you were a part of the community.
Just feels like a Q&A forum now. :( It's cold and impersonal. I never used reddit or any other online community because the layout doesn't foster my want to connect with people and call them dickheads occasionally.

WTF, has it totally changed now to the new site? Desktop Chrome and IE now still show legacy User Control Panel/Subscriptions but all threads are in the new format. No...:(

The new site design is a total disaster. I can guarantee it will be rolled back.

THANK THIS POST if you agree.

Not sure if this is a recurring issue for anyone else.
I signed up to Boards about a month ago, but did so via google+ so i don't enter a password I just log in pressing the icon.
Anyway sometimes it won't log in and often I'm logged out just while browsing threads or writing a post, and I have to close the tab on my phone and open a new one to try again, which sometimes will and won't work.
    Any solutions?
