    Penalty points would sort it!

I'm not sure it's clear cut that the pedestrian is the more vulnerable in a pedestrian/ cyclist collision to be honest.

It's a long way from clear cut:

One incident says precisely nothing. Also the cyclist was twice the pedestrian's age.

Do you come across many incidents in Ireland where pedestrians get killed by cyclists?

And what's age got to do with it? Neither party would have a clue or have any control over the age of the other party. If the person is vulnerable because of age, you're not going to know until you're on top of them on the ground.

Do you come across many where cyclists are killed after crashing into pedestrians, beyond the one you mention?

Because you cited an example in which the deceased was twice as old as the pedestrian. Dur.

Dur. Is that a recent acronym for a useful or positive debating contribution?

It's not an acronym, and no.

I'll take that as a No then.

But didn't you just say that you can't draw any conclusions from one example? Make your mind up FFS.

When did the question become one of pedestrians being specifically killed by bikes? The point is, there's a hierarchy of vulnerability. Only an idiot would argue that it doesn't run in the following order: pedestrian--->cyclist---->motorcyclist---->car---->large van/truck etc.
But didn't you just say that you can't draw any conclusions from one example? Make your mind up FFS.

Because YOU introduced the example as though it did. Can't you follow your own arguments?

As both a cyclist and a runner, I do sometimes run in cycle lanes, but only in the direction facing oncoming traffic and will move off well in advance if a cyclist is approaching.

People who stroll down cycle lanes facing away from traffic are the spawn of satan. Runners are annoying too, but tend to be less of an obstruction because they're moving more quickly and don't tend to weave from side to side like walkers with their faces buried in smart phones.

Arguing now about who is likley to be hurt more badly should a collison occur between a runner/walker in a cycling lane and a cyclist. Completely missing the point about the stupid reckless ignoarance/arrogance of the walker/runner using a cycling lane in the first place.

BTW, a collision could result in injuries to both parties. Who suffers more depends on the collision circumstances.

....and that's where I leave the discussion, now that any semblance of genuine debate will be cast to the four winds.

I'd be more worried about the people driving in the bike lane.
