Personally I think it's too close to bridal. Especially if the bride has tulle in her dress and even a pinkish tone.

I think it's beautiful. If a guest wore it to my wedding I wouldn't bat an eyelid but I wouldn't personally wear it to someone's wedding. Hope that makes sense!

Actually that probably doesn't help you much LOL :O

Wouldn't bother me but I can see how some people might object. Its a gorgeous dress but its pink so not in direct competition with the bride. I think go for it.

It's a stunning dress, just absolutely gorgeous, but I think it's a bit too close to bridal. Even if the bride didn't care, there's bound to be someone who will.

You might be able to make it stand out, and not look so bridal, if you used bright accessories, i.e. shoes, shawl, handbag etc.

In the sun light pale pink can look white in photos. It happened to a friend of mine who wore a light baby pink to a wedding, she's so embarrassed that all the pictures circulating on Facebook make her look like she's wearing white.

Personally if it was my wedding I really wouldn't bat an eye lid but if you are worried now that it might bee too close then I would just find another dress as you will be self conscious all day! :)

So I saw some of the sizes were going out of stock so I panicked and I bought it! :O

But in my minor defence, I can send it back.

I also found it on the ChiChi London website and it looks quite different there, the pink isnt as pale for a start.

I'll see what its like IRL, and if I love it, then I'll keep it for a non wedding activity.

It looks much more pink in that link - if it is that colour then definitely wear it, fab dress! :)

Haha if in doubt buy it anyway :D

I splashed out for a wedding i'm going to in June.

Now in a million years I would rarely spend this much on a dress as a wedding guest, but I plan on wearing it on my honeymoon and possibly the night before my wedding too for dinner and drinks.

The pictures don't do it justice, the one off the model even makes it look very 'busy' (which I hate) but it is absolutely gorgeous on and gives a real hour glass shape.

Beautiful dress, but if you're that concerned why not go for the blue option? even though I personally think the pink is beautiful.

Not really sure what colour accessories you could go with it do it isnt too bridal looking, maybe gold or silver or even a darker pink?

LOL, this is my motto in life! I keep those delivery and returns companies in business :)

I'm not sure why, but blue (especially baby blue) is not a colour I've ever gravitated towards before. I think maybe its the pale skin/dark hair/green eyes.... I just never feel like it suits me.

I love wearing pinks and purples the most probably, and I've probably got things in most other colours (doing instant mental inventory of wardrobe) I have plenty of reds, yellows, greens, metalics etc....

I think perhaps that baby blue looks better on blondes.

It's funny because I always thought the same.

What I've noticed with me though is that baby pink completely washes me out (even more, I have really pale skin and dark hair and green eyes lol), I'd have to wear fake tan to not look ill!

But the dress I got does quite the opposite, I think it's the deep pink and orange tones running through the baby blue that warms it all up

Interesting, maybe I need to give it a chance.... I only started wearing red a few years ago, as I'd also previously decided that red didnt look good.

Its funny, because i actually really like light blue, but its just light blue "on me" that I've always had an issue with.

I know what you're saying about baby pink having the potential to wash you out, I definitely have to be careful how i wear it. I actually find my hair gives a nice contrast, and I'd usually wear a bit of Dove Summer Glow, not to look tanned as such (because I'd be fooling no one) but just to make sure I don't look grey and pasty.

Blue and green dresses are my go to dress colors, I've red hair and it really does make it pop.
Its funny because I'm no model but a lot of dresses I buy for functions end up looking better on me then the model online because my warm complexion compliments the dress, and most models have much cooler complexions.

Will you report back on the fit and quality when you get it? I fell in love with a few Chi Chi London dresses, but posters over on Fashion & Appearance said they've had to return dresses due to poor fit and quality :(.

Sure will :) Might be a while though because its not due to arrive until next friday and by that point, I'll be in sunny Spain (for a wedding of course)

I've actually bought one dress from them before and had no hassles with it. In fact i'm wearing it to the same said wedding in Spain next week.

I think the quality was good considering it wasn't the most expensive ever (maybe £70? ordered it about 2 months ago so cant remember). Its a bit of a knock off of the Self Portrait dresses that are so popular at the moment and cost about €330, but I'm on the booby side, so the real dresses were too low cut for me, so the Chichi option actually looked better.

Oh this is good to know! I live really near Dundrum, but Pamela Scotts just isnt a shop I'm in the habit of going into.

Is it in the outside bit near Tesco/TK Maxx?

Yes, I think it's fairly new, I recognised one of the dresses and went in and there were a load there!

Gorgeous dress but too close to bridal, IMO. Even if you wore a coloured shawl over it, that will come off at some stage!

It depends on the bride really. I personally wouldn't care and even had a few people wear cream to my wedding which didn't bother me in the slightest. I would say most brides would be the same. I'd say you'd know yourself which women would be likely to be bothered by it as well.

This. If you turned up to my weddjng wearing a floor length white gown with a long train, it wouldn't bother me, but some people apply an ettiquette to their own wedding that I find difficult to understand.

    It's stunning, I don't see why you shouldn't wear it to a wedding !!

I think it's fine. You can pick some edgier shoes and clutch to make it look less sweet. Personally I think the blue one looks like something from frozen and I would definitely go for pink.

Would any Brides have an issue if a guest wore this? Its from the "wedding guest" section on Asos, but I'm just having slight second thoughts.

If you know the brides well, show them the dress and ask them if they have an issue with it, especially if you know they're likely to have a vintage/tea-length dress themselves. That dress is extremely like a friend of mine's actual wedding dress so it's really a case of knowing each bride's likely style.

One of my guests ran her potential dress for my wedding past me first because she knew my dress was a champagney-gold and her dress was literally the exact same colour as mine, so she chose a different one.

It's no harm to run it past the bride - you cant go wrong there. For all you know she might be grand with the dress but knows that one of her family are wearing the same one. She'll either say yes or no and you'll know either way before making any faux pas on the day.

Wow and I thought I was tolerant lol :D But I would draw the line at someone turning up with a floor length white gown with a train :O

beautiful dress, but tbh, very close to my own wedding dress. Bride might not mind, but other guests may be wondering whatsup with that (yes, you can tell them to go stuff it, but do you really wanna stick out?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,841 ✭✭✭SarahMollie

    Thanks ladies :)

TBF, knowing the brides as I do, I don't think it would be any of their styles (still 4 weddings that I havent yet matched dresses to!). I'd be very confident that none of them will go for tea length anyhow.

I guess I'll see what its like when I get it. I'll definitely err on the side of caution. Even if I think its ok, I'd wear quite modern gold shoes with it and I've quite a statement clutch bag that could work. I also tend to wear my hair down, where as most brides I know have gone for up styles.

I definitely don't want to stand out for the wrong reasons so I'll keep this thread in mind once I get my paws on the dress :) If I really love it but can't justify it for a wedding, I'll just keep it for my next birthday.

I don't much like being the centre of attention! Someone else wearing a long white dress would surely distract all that notice from me!

Oh I'm the exact same I don't like the focus being on me but even still I would find it very odd if someone turned up in a dress like that. Unless of course I was going for a totally non-wedding dress type look, but then people may confuse the guest in white as the bride lol!
