I've nothing to back this up, but I'd say the trend tends to be cyclical. Very groomed and done up from the eighties through to early to mid nineties, laid back through to the mid to late noughties and getting progressively more done up from then til now. We'll probably reach peak Kardashian at some point, people will figure out a different appearance related way to part people from their money and life goes on

Tell me, Dr electro, given your extensive research over many years and your study of them in their natural environment which has made you the expert on the subject, at what stage do you think we are currently at on the "Kardashiogram"?
Have we reached level 6 Karda yet?
And how prepared will we need to be within the community for when we go full Kardashian?

OCD has absolutely nothing to do with what you have been banging on about ie Kardashian makeup. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

As for the drugs reference, dude....you need to have a word with yourself.

Educate Yourself! OCD and BDD share eerie similarities...

You'd be better suited to doing some research before you spout nonsense like that which you posted

Trends come and go, and this is a trend. Let me remind you what people thought was fashionable makeup in the 80s:

    https://www.google.ie/search?q=80s+makeup

And that's not to mention the hair. All that hairspray nearly depleted the ozone layer. Come the 90s everyone thought it was ridiculous and moved on. They found different ridiculous trends - like grunge: baggy clothes, minimal makeup and not a perm in sight.
Those shoulder-pads nearly destroyed civilisation as we know it.

Don't even get me started on mullets...

So basically what your posts boil down to is that women are mentally unwell if they don't do subscribe to the image that you deem appropriate

    Pone, pone, pone.
What are we going to do with you?

Go find a few symptoms of BDD... You'll soon see where excessive makeup application falls into that bracket

If excessive makeup application is symptomatic of mental illness, perhaps you shouldn't be laughing at the people doing it?

I force my opinion on nobody, Everyone's entitled to theirs...just as everyone is entitled to comment on anyone's..its called free speech...not forcing anything...people choose to engage in this conversation i never asked anyone who didnt share my belief to...no more than I asked them to accept my opinion as gospel...missed that one too did you??

There are a clear amount of people who hold the belief that it is utterly ridiculous? do we care? not all that much..we arent the ones being laughed at ..but its a troublesome thought that people need to hide behind a mask to accept themselves

Even more troubling imo is the fact that our next generation will grow up accepting this as normal...because as usual...our generation would rather bury their head in the sand, or bottle, or in this case makeup rather than address the actual root of issues.....but please go on....about how this affects nobody's life..about how BDD/OCD and this emerging trend of EXCESSIVE, OBSESSIVE makeup application have no link whatsoever..about how embedding this ***** trend into society, its all fine and dandy right? it doesnt affect anyone at all?

Its no better than young lads juicing themselves up to the eyeballs imo, its troublesome that people are embedding these as cultural norms here..whether it is harmful to physical or mental health, or both..the point remains...its not a healthy trend

So please, tell me what part of what im saying is so vain?? Im all ears

and quite frankly, i could care less whether people like my opinion or not..its my opinion NOT EVERYONE'S...need I embed that in the thread title?

Hmm started off about comments on trends for lipstick.

Not sure how it came to this?

Rants about 'troubling" make up and juicing.

Would you not have anything better to keep you busy rather than worrying about the root issues for people who wear too much make up and why people bury their heads in the sand rather than address this threat to our society.

Perhaps it's time the Country had a Referendum on the topic?

Sounds like someone is having withdrawal symptoms from lack of water protests and blocking water meter installations and needs a new cause.

No no, I wasn't referring to that.

I was referring to how you link these debilitating illnesses with the makeup and kardashian lovers of today.

Ive been with the OCD, BDD AND ED ( she hadtwo actually, from anoerexia to bulimia) chick, i spent 5 years with her actually, you can fire in Bipolar, molested and a few other traumatic instances too..its irrelevant to this discussion...as is what you just said

Btw, psych was one of my subjects at undergrad too...again, its pretty meaningless (nice try at authenticating your opinion though)

One of the most common Symptoms of BDD is excessive makeup application...am i saying all individuals contribute? no... Im saying its an issue..are you saying thats not the case?

IS BDD on the rise in ireland? pretty much,

Is this contributing? Id argue it is

Likewise with the men , steroids and muscle dysmorphia

So when you started the thread complaining about people looking like they had an allergic reaction to peanuts, you were really just worried about eating disorders?

    Absolutley not

But then, three days of talking about, discussing, and researching a topic do tend to give you insight

I wouldnt call those eating disorders though...thats not really what i stated...(although relevant indeed, i think thats another topic)

What I think you're up to is you just wanted to laugh at people you think are ugly, and now that you've been called out about it you're trying to defend yourself by saying you actually really care about people.

Seriously, though. This thread is a wind-up.

I appear to have spotted a trend which has honestly got me baffled:confused:

Lately, I've noticed more and more women seem to do their lipstick in a fashion that either makes them look like they've had an allergic reaction to peanuts, or they are trying to do their best impression of the Joker in The Dark Knight?

    Could anyone explain this, please??

    Yeah, this is interesting.

Going from actually insulting women who wear makeup you find distasteful, to defending your position saying how concerned you are for all of the impending (and current) mental health conditions these trends are supposedly contributing to.

But sure 3 days of research has led you to this point.

    You have little to do.

Let me make this blatantly clear

If i wanted to laugh at people who i deemed ugly, I would go right ahead and do that....and i wouldnt be typing on boards.ie to do so...make no mistake..im honest to the point of being cold. Proudly? not always, but nobody is perfect

That was not the case...it was a question of discussion..granted i exaggerate...but its AH...this whole thread wreaks of exaggeration and sarcasm, from all sides

And im not saying i care about individual people specifically, certainly not...im talking about the collective...i do not know these people nor will i ever...but i think collectively...its an issue...maybe not everyone shares that view, and thats fine...but id doubt anyone could honestly argue there is no substance in the notion that its an issue

things like this are troubling imo....be it a girl who feels the need to cover herself in makeup or a guy who juices up...the fact that people feel the need to alter their appearance in a drastic way speaks volume

    Thats my take on it
