I'm not much for makeup (Im female) though I do like kohl around the eyes. But from times i have worn makeup I remember arriving at a point of purely aesthetic dissatisfaction with the actual bare skin on my face. It was a matter of it not being able to match the blemish-free illusion that foundation etc creates with the ''plain-ness'' of the reality underneath . But it was an inappropriate training of my eye, in retrospect. Bare skin is very different to made up skin, and somehow we can train our eyes through the constant use of cosmetics to think what lies beneath may not be as beautiful or perfect as made up skin. But if one does not use make up for a length of time, something happens...the bare skin underneath becomes appealing again, normal, intrinsically lovely, freckled, tanned, natural, something to be confident about. Even if a woman uses makeup with confidence, I think in order to be truly confident she should be able to go without regularly and feel absolutely just as great. No lines like 'Oh my gawd, I've no makeup on...but you'll have to take me as I am!'. Just breezing barefaced in the world, and feeling good.

Truth be told i'm not that bothered about any of the preening, make up, nails, spanx, arse lifting jeans etc But the fake arses i just hope they don't catch on here like they do in America.

I've never seen a fake arse on anyone - with the exception of the adult movies stars whose industry centre near where I used to live. The week or so of the Porn Oscars was like a non-stop trial of not knowing where to put your eyes in Starbucks, there's so much physical oddity on show that you'd want to gawk at, but of course being British it's the last thing I'd do. No, the menu is always more interesting than having a good scope of someone with a 50 inch chest, 20 inch waist and heels with platforms that add another 8 inches of height!

There was no believing they were born like that either, all the implants in various places from pecs to pants were really obvious in men and women.

Eyeshadow is the very thin end of the wedge!

That'll be those pesky fake eyes.

I actually know more than one girl who uses coloured contacts so he’s not that far off.

From my experience the normal American women wears a hell of a lot less makeup (and other 'deceiving' items) than Irish women. Seeing shows like the Kardashian’s may give Irish women a misleading opinion of what is normal across the pond. I’ve heard American women in our office regularly comment on the amount of makeup/effort that the Irish women put on/in just to come to the office.

Someone I dated once wore one. Really. I may have laughed a little when I saw it.

As far as I remember, it was quite uncomfortable 'cause it kept slipping off-center, making her arse look lopsided.

Topical given the KPMG Receptionist High Heals story from last week but is it just me or are High Heals a huge turn off. I guess its all the Teens and 20 somethings dressed like prossies teetering down the road to the pub on them looking like they're bandy legged. It means I can't even find the classy broads wearing them sexy even if they know how to walk in them. I find the legs of women in flats infinitely more sexy.

High heels are a turn-off when the women can't walk in 'em and look like a deer learning how to walk.

Heard similar from French, Spanish and Italian women too. Not particularly the make up, but the more dressed up for office* work overall. This odd notion you sometimes read hereabouts that Irish Women(™) are more "dowdy" and less "fashionable" I have found doesn't bare much scrutiny.

*folks who have direct contact with the public in their jobs is a different thing. I have found if anything the same nations listed were more heavy handed on that score.

The fake tan/eyelashes/lips etc is VERY obvious on Irish womens faces...

Irish women's heads and faces are not designed genetically for the type of "beauty" that this makeup is meant to create. that's why it looks so mad on some.

funny topic though - what's the point in going around like a mad clown...
what happened to "be who you are" ??

Id be inclined to agree with the notion though tbh...I don't think the Irish women dress well,at least not imo..

Look at Eastern Europeans...they keep it relatively simple, and always look great

This, 100%. There is nothing more attractive than a woman who is comfortable in her own skin.

Well Eastern Europe is a huge area with quite the bit of variability, but in that general neck of the woods Ukrainian and Russian women have damn near weaponised makeup and all that stuff. Simple is not a word I'd have used. :D

Form fitting clothes. You don't need to make as much of an effort when you have more to show than just your face.

I think there are either extreme tbh..some in more modern areas are about following trends...but the rest from smaller towns, rural areas...man are they a sight to behold...I dated a Latvian Girl from a small town of about 6-7000 for a while a few years ago...

There used to be a trail of blood following us from wherever we walked, as a result of my jaw constantly being dragged across the ground

OP I hope your naturally stunning hot Eastern European girlfriend never dumps you and God forbid you ever find yourself lumped with a decidedly average and make up reliant Irish girlfriend I don't know how you'll ever cope ya crayture

Who ever portrays themselves as they really are? Everyone dons a mask or wears a different face in different contexts or situations. So is wearing makeup really all that different?

I'd say we lock up the ugly people. Walking around thinking they're entitled to look how they want!

Never mind lipstick and make up, why do women shave off their eye- brows and draw them back on again?

AND the women who use anything other than nature intended, be it lycra or lip gloss, to deceive the menfolk.
