I was going through some photos, one year I visited and went to a wasabi farm. Those are black netting to diffuse the sun in the summer. There are little riverlets flowing between the rows of plants.

Hoping to get back into batch cooking soon. Heading to the butchers tomorrow so hopefully this weekend I'll make a start.

Been going through bout of depression and lost my love for cooking and only did it because I had to, hopefully I can get my love for it back again. :)

I get like this when I'm pregnant. I miss loving cooking. Hope you regain the love of cooking soon stripedboxers.

5.5 hours seems like a hell of a long time for a meal!! How many courses was that? The longest I ever had was nearly 4 hours in the fat duck or nearly 3 hours in Cliff House. Both were huge menus. Actually, scratch that, we attended a wedding once where we were seated for 4.5 hours for a 5 course meal. People were hammered by the time dessert was served. The speeches were very spread out between the courses.

I passed on the 14 euro goat cheese in the airport (not Dublin) the other week.

    Anyone made sloppy Joes?

Yes. It's basically bolognese sauce on bread. I love it.

To make them easier to handle I use hot dog rolls, these get the more unfortunate name "sloppy dogs".

The problem is many hot dog rolls are precut these days, and with some they only leave a tiny bit of bread holding them together so they easily fall apart. If you steam the rolls they stay together. You can also wet them a little and stick them in the microwave for a few seconds to soften them.

Just back from a cruise and the thoughts of having to cook is about as unappealing as a kick in the face. Think I left my mojo onboard

Hope you enjoyed the cruise Angeldelight :)

The weekend was a success with cooking.

Big pot of chicken stew made and ready to be portioned up.
    Two types of pastas.
Joint of bacon diced up to be used in various dishes.
Big pot of chicken gravy made as well and ready to be portioned up for the freezer.

Found some chicken stock in the freezer so defrosted it, and used it in the gravy so made a nice be pot of it. Handy to have ready instead of having to make it each time :)

I really enjoyed that show, we gave it a second watch recently.

If you like this show, check out The Mind of a Chef, also on Netflix. Some really good profiles of some really clever people.

I particularly liked David Chang, Sean Brock and Ed Lee. They all seem like very grounded guys who have some fantastic ideas and explanations for how they work and what influenced them.

First time using that frozen pastry stuff. Some pesto, red pepper, red onion, courgette, cherry tomatoes and cheese. Grand.

    Hi all

Just wondering can anyone recommend a nice pesto from the Supermarket?

I was watching a video last night and it included the cooking of pesto chicken and it looked unbelievable.

I've had pesto chicken before (can't remember what recipe and it was with green pesto which I wasn't a fan of. I was thinking maybe garlic pesto would be better/nicer?

Would appreciate any help with this :)

Lidl or aldis (forget which ) one looks good, and the own brand one in my local spar looked decent too... have a look at the ingredient list...if its mostly stuff you'd have in your own kitchen
    Then grand..

BBC Food recipes 11,000 of them are being dropped from the internet in a sop to the government :(

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-36308976

I wonder if anyone will try to archive them and stick them on a blogsite as text.

Quick question for the Dubs, where's good for a cheap n cheerful (<€10) lunch in D2? Have to make a flying visit at the weekend and it's so long since I lived in Dublin that I've forgotten all my usual haunts!

The internet archives's wayback machine has the whole site archived, it'll still be useable from there...

That would be an awful loss! I really hope they walk back that decision.

Bbc good food confirmed on their Facebook page that recipes will still be available for free to the public so not sure what the story is.

Lemon Crepe and Coffee Co. on Dawson St! Delicious sweet and savoury crepes and their melts are great also.

Anyone ever come across a way to store chopped onions in the fridge that works. Got THIS in Homestore and More and while it is better than cling film even this doesn't completely trap the odour.

I have one of these and not a whiff of onion smell gets out.

Anyone else finding that baby spinach lately isn't great quality?

I've bought from Aldi, Dunnes and Supervalu and have found the spinach isn't up to its usual good standards, its not as fresh as it normally was and it lasts pissing time in the fridge.

It barely lasts three days in the fridge whereas two months ago it'd last a week to ten days, still perfect.

I'm actually fed up of buying it now as its ending up in the bin because I can't stomach the way it goes slimy not to mention the white spots that are all over the leaves. :(

    Serious question :
Why would you have leftover chopped onion?
Only chop what you need. If I only need half an onion, I half it with the skin on and wrap in cling film - no smell, then chop the other half.

I have it a few years, and my daughter picked it up for me. She got it in either Woodies or Home Store & More.

I find it hard to know how much I need before I chop an onion (like when a recipe says "one medium onion"). Sometimes I'd chop an onion and it gives more that I actually need.
