162 and scrappage offers

Nissan are definitely bringing it back anyway. I was in the dealership Thursday & the salesman told me they're bringing back scrappage for one month (no doubt will be extended a few times as they always do) & you can either avail of €4k scrappage or a reduced finance APR.

Kia are offering scrappage as well.

Really? I know you can get 5 years servicing instead of the scrappage.

You usually just leave a deposit and pay the rest on collection.

I availed of the scrappage deal for a 161 i30, paid a deposit on ordering with balance on collection like Colm said. No idea what the lead time is for a Tucson, they're popular and it'll likely depend on the colour and spec. you're after.

I came from a 00 Corolla to the i30 petrol classic. Very happy with the car. It's been all short urban trips for me so far, that's what I do the majority of the time which is why I went with petrol, fuel consumption is alright but was never going to be amazing for that type of driving. I agree it cruises comfortably at 120kph, I have a few longer trips in the next month or so and will be interested to see fuel consumption for those. Like the a/c, bluetooth etc. Alloys & cruise control from the deluxe would be nice but I don't think it's worth the premium.

Not sure on the delivery & related costs. Metallic is extra, the only colour you don't pay extra for is white, all other colours available are extra-I think it was 500 eur but couldn't be 100% sure on that.

You would want to add about 1k for metallic paint and delivery related charges.

Dealers can't be explicit on delivery charges as apparently it would be anti-competitive, whatever that means. The Competition Authority seems to take a dim view of all dealers charging the same price for a car. I don't agree with this view as they (the dealer) would still be able to move on trade-in and it would be far more transparent for the consumer.

I posted this previously but still should be relevant for then 162 orders and the benefits of selling you car privately:-

You should be able to get approx. €3,500 off the Tuscon with a cash deal. For me this involved trading a car for the 4K deal and buying it back again for €500. In the end I did not go for this out due to having an uncomfortable feel in the drivers seat.

Was going to go for a Honda HRV (1.75k Cash Discount) and looked at a lot of Crossovers over the past few months.

Nissan Qashqai - 2k Cash discount
Peugeot 5008 - 3.5k Cash discount


In the end the main draw back from the crossovers for us was the space between the rear seat and the front seats (When putting in a child seat and 2 year old kicking the front seats.) and the availability of the HVR

In the end I have just placed an order for a Skoda Combi Combi with 0%PCP and a decent cash discount with some extras now for free. The main benefits for us were:-

1. VW family car on MQB platform
2. Boot space much better than any of the crossovers
3. Rear seat space best of any car tested
4. Very good online reviews

Just to note, these were all tested in the Galway city region
