    Hi,

I'm looking into buying a new car soonish. Do you think manufacturers will offer scrappage deals again just before the 162 cars start coming in?
About when do you think will that happen?

    Thanks!

Yes without doubt, I'd say they will kick off end of next month for July delivery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭Smiley11

Nissan are definitely bringing it back anyway. I was in the dealership Thursday & the salesman told me they're bringing back scrappage for one month (no doubt will be extended a few times as they always do) & you can either avail of €4k scrappage or a reduced finance APR.

I was talking to a guy in Hyundai recently and he said scrappage deals will be back in the next few weeks. Most probably on the i20 & i30.

Just had a look nothing on their website yet.

Only had a quick read on Hyundai's but looks like they have removed the AA membership if you take the €4k scrappage.

Really? I know you can get 5 years servicing instead of the scrappage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭Redo22

Looking at getting a 162 Tucson. If I order now, when do they start getting delivered and do you usually pay the full amount when you order the car or when you collect it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

You usually just leave a deposit and pay the rest on collection.

That seems a little strange since AA 5 Year Roadside Assist is part of the warranty http://www.hyundai.ie/5-year-unlimited-mileage-warranty

I availed of the scrappage deal for a 161 i30, paid a deposit on ordering with balance on collection like Colm said. No idea what the lead time is for a Tucson, they're popular and it'll likely depend on the colour and spec. you're after.

Did the same. Happy with it

Did you guys who got an i30 get the 4k scrappage if you didn't take their finance?

Yep, paid a €1k deposit to secure the car before the Jan deadline expired (was extended anyway). Got my credit union loan and completed 10 days later

Good to hear because im doing same. Between i30 & ceed but don't think Kia offer same level of scrappage (if any). You happy with i30?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

Ordered a 161 Tucscon in Feb, they seemed to have a lot on stock centrally for lost colours and when we decided it only took about 10 days to get one. I presume they'd be busier for the first few weeks of 162 than they were in Feb but imagine if you order in advance you'd have it fairly quick once July comes.

Really nice car. I came from a 99 Audi A4 TDi which was a brilliant overtaker and hardly drank diesel. I'm getting used to the basic acceleration and overall petrol consumption compared to the diesel. I've done 800 kms this week, mostly motorway and it is a great cruiser. I had to claw it back from 140 kph a few times. Great audio & electrics

Yes, got the scrappage without taking their finance. I guess they'd rather get you to take their finance if they could, which is probably why their site gives the impression that the deal is based on having to take their finance. In the end dealers will happily sell you a car, with or without Hyundai finance :D

I came from a 00 Corolla to the i30 petrol classic. Very happy with the car. It's been all short urban trips for me so far, that's what I do the majority of the time which is why I went with petrol, fuel consumption is alright but was never going to be amazing for that type of driving. I agree it cruises comfortably at 120kph, I have a few longer trips in the next month or so and will be interested to see fuel consumption for those. Like the a/c, bluetooth etc. Alloys & cruise control from the deluxe would be nice but I don't think it's worth the premium.

So I ended up going to Hyundai, and got 3.5k scrappage against the i20. Ordered it last Friday and will receive it June 9.
    Very excited :)

What kind of amount are we talking for 'delivery and related costs' for something like a Tucson? Is metallic paint extra? Can't find it on their website

Not sure on the delivery & related costs. Metallic is extra, the only colour you don't pay extra for is white, all other colours available are extra-I think it was 500 eur but couldn't be 100% sure on that.

Yeah, I wasn't paying extra for metallic. Mine is white (currently splattered with starling shlte, which I'm hosing off 4 times a day. They never crapped on my previous banger :( )

You would want to add about 1k for metallic paint and delivery related charges.

Figures already mentioned sound about right. Charges vary between dealers. I wish all manufacturers would stop this silly game and just publish the prices. Nearest I've seen is Toyota who have the metallic option in their finance calculator, but this still leaves dealers to decide "delivery" :)

Dealers can't be explicit on delivery charges as apparently it would be anti-competitive, whatever that means. The Competition Authority seems to take a dim view of all dealers charging the same price for a car. I don't agree with this view as they (the dealer) would still be able to move on trade-in and it would be far more transparent for the consumer.

Does anybody know if fiat will be bringing back the 3k scrappage like they had for 161 plates?

I posted this previously but still should be relevant for then 162 orders and the benefits of selling you car privately:-

You should be able to get approx. €3,500 off the Tuscon with a cash deal. For me this involved trading a car for the 4K deal and buying it back again for €500. In the end I did not go for this out due to having an uncomfortable feel in the drivers seat.

Was going to go for a Honda HRV (1.75k Cash Discount) and looked at a lot of Crossovers over the past few months.

Nissan Qashqai - 2k Cash discount
    Peugeot 5008 - 3.5k Cash discount

In the end the main draw back from the crossovers for us was the space between the rear seat and the front seats (When putting in a child seat and 2 year old kicking the front seats.) and the availability of the HVR

In the end I have just placed an order for a Skoda Combi Combi with 0%PCP and a decent cash discount with some extras now for free. The main benefits for us were:-

    1. VW family car on MQB platform
    2. Boot space much better than any of the crossovers
    3. Rear seat space best of any car tested
    4. Very good online reviews

Just to note, these were all tested in the Galway city region

Was quoted €900 for delivery and €550 for metallic paint, thought it was a bit steep. Unless the base price has gone up and the website hadn't been updated yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭Smiley11

I'm paying €550 for metallic paint. Wasn't quoted anything for delivery so I won't be paying it if its sprung on me last minute!

Youve signed an order form with the price on it?
What model did you get. And how much was it if you don't mind me asking.

When you're getting scrappage for your trade in ie. €3,500 from Hyundai, does this come off the retail price or is it added on to your deposit paid amount. As in if I'm availing of a scrappage deal can that be used as my deposit so I don't have to give another 10% in cash? Or do I have to trade the car in and pay 10% of the retail price less the €3,500?

This is mad, would the dealer not just give you the €3500 off and be done with the messing? These 'scrappage' deals piss me off. Just give the customer the discount or don't offer it.

I have a Qashqai SV 1.2 petrol ordered & its due at the start of June. I didn't sign any order form but I put down a deposit of €500. I'm getting the safety pack on it which is €600 extra & because the salesman made a cock up & ordered one with Nissan Connect instead of the safety pack I've had to settle for one with both so thats another €300 for the NC. I can't remember the base price but its around €27,945 I think so about €29,400. Hes mentioned nothing about delivery to date so I won't be paying for it if its added on at the end, especially considering I already have to pay an extra €300 for his mistake rather than wait another couple of months! I should probably have waited but my back is in bits from my 3 door sporty car/baby combination so I took the hit!

I'm trading in a banger for the scrappage so getting €4k off the Qashqai 7 I'm putting more towards it myself to keep my PCP repayments down but I don't have to. The scrappage is deemed my deposit.

I guess the importer is financing the scrapage deal too - so the papers need to be in order.

Honda offering 1500 scrappage . although some garages said they will give me the 1500 and let me keep my old car, others want to take it though.

It's "up to €4000", and varies across models. i10 & i20 are €3500. i30, i40, Tucson & Sante Fe are €4000. Some dealers might try to offer less, I'd take my business elsewhere if they try that tactic.

Hi, What kind of condition do cars need to be in to get scrappage? I have a 2002 206cc but the exhaust is currently in the boot. Is it worth my while getting a new exhaust in order to get scrappage (Toyota)?

My Punto needs about 2000 euros worth of work just to pass the NCT, they took it and gave me the 3.5k off the new car without issue.
Imho it's a scrappage deal, ie your car will be scrapped/destroyed presumably so it doesn't matter what shape it's in.

If it has current NCT and tax no.

If you have no price agreed, and there is a dispute, they will probably just cancel the sale and give your deposit back.
If you're making plans around having a new car, then it would be wise to get a confirmed price rather than waiting for a dispute over a charge that every customer pays. There is tiny margin in those scrappage deals, so I'm sure they'd rather sell to someone else than lose money.

When I got my Hyundai, the salesman never even looked at it or asked what it was. All he said was 'if it got you here, that will do for me'

I had to sign a declaration about it being NCT'd, never written off etc

I think the "base price" Smiley mentioned already includes the delivery charge (check the RRP from the Nissan web site). So there shouldn't be a nasty surprise. But yeah it's always good to have a written record of exactly what you ordered and how much you owe!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The RRP on Nissan.ie excludes delivery and related charges.
That said the price on the window would be inclusive.
There might be some mad chance that the op did the deal based on €4K off plus €300 for this/that, here's a deposit.
Seems very odd not to have an actual price.

I was given a price of €28,945 which I have written down by the salesman but its not a signed document. Obviously I have to add the 300. I didn't really want the Connect but I accepted it to get the car sooner but I'm really not prepared to pay any more so if theres a dispute I'm happy to walk away. I haven't told my husband about the extra 300 because he won't be happy & my intention is to absorb the cost myself. I'm not absorbing any more than that though.

I'd say the salesman thinks I'm a bit of a walkover because I didn't look for any deals or further discounts & I didn't shop around for them. His face literally lit up a couple of times in our last interaction when I accepted his mistake & didn't question paying the extra. I just felt with scrappage that I'd be hard pressed getting any more out of him.

They need the Car and Cert to officially go through the garage and send the details to Hyundai main office to avail of scrappage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 dexoticus

I'm pretty sure the €28,945 already includes the €1k delivery, as the RRP (ex delivery) for the 1.2 petrol was around €26,800 (this has gone up recently), then metallic paint and the safety pack would had added about €1,200 on top of that.
