Out of interest, has anyone who ordered from HTC UK and had it sent through Parcel Motel got theirs yet? Have the strangest feeling Hermes are storing them to deliver in bulk to PM.

Have the phone since yesterday impressed so far. Haven't went near Camara yet probably over the weekend. There is such a zip compared to how everything moves and works beautiful screen as well side by side to the m9 and m8.

Rooting it took bit longer than usual but got there. I've read there's a few issues with people losing there signal after flashing certain things something to do with encryption.
Just have to be careful for now.

    What does rooting do?

Mine finally had movement overnight, and was 'delivered to a secure location' at 7am this morning. This concerns me, because I'm sure nobody was there to receive at Parcel motel at that time, and I've heard of Hermes just leaving parcels lying outside. Trying to find out what the story is.

General rule is that if you don't know what unlocking bootloader/rooting/s-off is, then don't worry about it :D

    fair enough.

I was just wondering is it what you do to get rid of all the crap that Vodafone and three etc put on the phones. Wouldn't mind knowing how to do that myself. I used to be able to do it with the Nokias years ago, made the phones much more enjoyable to use.

Not sure why you would need to do that if you got the phone direct from HTC though.

Rooting will let you get rid of crapware. It also allows you install and run certain apps that you can't without root, such as ad blockers and titanium backup (the main reasons I root tbh).

Edit: Oh and rooting will also let you install new ROMs, which is always a plus.

the new case looks very good.

    anybody get it yet?

seems to be around 50 euro though....... a bit steep

    what's a ROM?

Any good links to learning about this stuff?

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10

Read, read and read some more. It can be a bit daunting at first, but there's plenty of people available to help.

Personally, I've been running custom ROMs since Window's Mobile back around 2007, and I'm still having to learn new things constantly as the methods to root/modify your software changes.

Unfortunately, theming and modding also sucks up way too much of my time :D

Edit: A ROM is the software that comes on your device, which has been modified by developers. Usually this involves tweaks that add new features, or improves speed and battery life.

The 'Secure Location' bit is what has me thinking they're putting all the orders from HTC together somewhere and bulk shipping them to PM in Belfast.

My assumption is that Hermes call a 'secure location' leaving something on a doorstep when nobody is there to receive a parcel. Unfortunately Hermes live help is little help. I'm trying to get info off Parcel Motel.

Edit: I checked with Hermes live chat, and they said:

"I have checked the online tracking for this parcel on my end, it is: 13/05/16 at 07:06 - Secure Delivery (Other) - Nightline"

So looks like it's been delivered to the PM depot.

Nice one!! That means they've had mine for over 24 hours and not contacted me about it arriving up there! Might get on to them.

Could be a silly question but, when I turn on the mobile data is tells me I'm roaming mode and will incur significant charges. Is this just normal mobile data or something else?

3 use national roaming on to Vodafone, so shouldn't be an issue

Nice. I'd be expecting mine tomorrow night. This is my tenth HTC flagship over almost 10 years, and definitely my worst buying experience out of all of them!

If I had to do it all again, I would have just skipped the pre-order, and collected one in 3 on Wednesday. Less stressful :D

Same, not a 3 customer but would have found a way around it. The entire ordeal we've all had to go through makes a mockery of a "pre-order"

Now mine is in transit and Parcel Motel fees taken. With a little luck, I'll get it tonight.

At 8am I took it off charge. It's 6pm now and battery is at 32%. Been using it quite a bit. I wouldn't say there has been any major improvement in battery life.

How long have you had it ? Generally you need to let the phone "settle" before judging battery life.

A day and a half lol. Put it on charge at 6.20, came back at 7:30 and it was 100%. So 32% to 100% in just over an hour!

    A couple of other things....
Screen feels so smooth and is very sensitive. It really is the nicest screen on a phone or tablet I have ever had.
Fingerprint scanner works 100% of the time and is incredibly fast.
The phone does not attract fingerprints at all it seems, front or back.

Switch to battery saver mode if you haven't. I noticed how screen was draining battery so done this myself. Makes it slightly darker but not big issue screen still looks great.,

Just as I was about to go to bed last night I checked my phone and saw I had an email from PM raced over and got it and subsequently stayed up until 1:30 playing with it and setting stuff up.

So far I love pretty much everything about it. Those of you still waiting having had to deal with HTC it's worth the wait. However having gone through the whole experience, I hope nothing ever happens to it because I never want to have to deal directly with them ever again.

The charge has been pending on my account all week as €652 and when I looked this morning there was a tenner or so less in my account than there was when I checked it yesterday eventually realised the payment to HTC went through as €663.

Now, back to playing with my new toy :D
