    con89 won't be replying for a while.
Can I remind posters to report posts that they feel cross the line.

I would just like to add my congratulations to Clare on a never say die performance and that we are looking forward to the next day. There will have been a few gulps in other parts of the country at the thought that one of these fine teams will be marauding through the qualifiers with no second chances for anyone.

The other thing I would like to point out is one of the "Waterford" posters that is getting some of ye worked up registered on the 26th of April. You can make of that what you want but "don't feed the trolls" comes to mind.

My honest opinion is yes mistakes were made on both Sundays by the referees, we lost a 6 pt lead twice and failed to score for the last 8-9 mins in yesterday's game so there it is in a nutshell. Clare finished the stronger there is no denying that but maybe we will have learned more in this defeat than had we won it. Cracks might have been papered over whereas id like to think McGrath has seen where our weaknesses are now.
June 5th can't come quickly enough as I think it will be a cracker. There's no doubting there are some brilliant hurlers on either side and both won't be far away come Sept no matter who fails next month. Still,as Kilkenny prove time and time again, the best route to winning the All Ireland is the direct one!

Is there any other sport that can match hurling for ebbs and flows in a game? It's amazing how a game swings on a team''s momentum and the damage you can do when you have it. Yesterday's game was a great example of that. Clare had the momentum when it counted, right at the death. If it went into extra time again, who's to say how it would have finished.

Really looking forward to the Championship now.

Well done to you all on the win yesterday. After 160 minutes of hurling a point was about the appropriate amount between the teams. Clare will feel they conceded soft goals, we’ll feel we hit soft wides / let Clare back into it. But there really is very little separating the two teams in terms of quality. If Conlon / McInerney and Mahony / Maurice are back for summer both teams will be even tougher prospects for whoever they come up against. Might be wishful thinking for Mahony this year though having seen so little action.

Anyway – the big talking point from the game was the free at the end. In my opinion, it was an unfortunate time to make those two mistakes, but it was just a free around the halfway line for God’s sake! The moaning since has been way over the top. We had a puckout after which we could have won and won the league if we had. But we didn’t, Clare did. There’s no denying that we’d probably have won the league had the ref called it correctly, but refs can make mistakes at any time in a game. You just have to get on with it. Maybe if it was championship I’d be less understanding, but it’s not. The moaning since has been fairly over the top if predictable. We saw it last week for both the frees a in injury time of normal and extra time, although they were soft, not necessarily wrong decisions like this one.

But more importantly than a reffing decision – what a great game of hurling we got! I’d say we could see one of those teams hurling in September this year, you never know we could see both! But some of the individual displays were top notch. Aussie Gleeson would have been MOTM 90% of the time with his display yesterday, but Tony Kelly had as good a game as he’s ever had. I think Davy Fitzgerald (wing back) looks terrific – has he been there long? I don’t know him as well as I’d expect. And Podge Collins gets on some load of ball. Jamie Barron and Patrick Curran were superb for us too.

Just on Davy’s pitch-side antics – I’d love it if he cut that cr@p out. He gets away with a lot because “he’s a real character of the game, and the game needs characters.” As amused as I am by him from time to time, if he can’t control himself on the side of the pitch he shouldn’t be there. Roaring abuse like that is a disgrace and maybe the GAA should look at bringing in sideline bans for cases like these.

Sound post blue note and from a few other Waterford people. Comiserations yesterday, we just got the rib of the green i think.

Just on your last two points. Wrt Davy, I dont think theres anything us supporters can say about his antics, yesterday was another embarrassing incident where Davy made a fool of himself. Were not going to make a defense for him on that, as Davy on numerous other occasions has not represented us well, like v Cork in 2014 where he blamed the ref when Cork were clearly the better team, v Limerick in 2012 when he was roaring at Dowling before a free, or 2014 after the Wexford game, etc. Unfortunately I dont think he is going to change.

But your right, it was an excellent game. I hope too some of the vitrol that has been put up online can be put in the past, thats no reason for malice bewteen the counties. Id love to see a rivarly develop between us over the years as we both have young talented teams with a good future. Like these three games are going to be hugely benefical.. Kelly from us got more gametime and is upto speed, young players like Curran, Bennett, Fitzgearld are emerging as future leaders, Gleeson showing that he is maybe better in the half forward line, theres loads of positives from yesterday.

Anyway its only the league, we will see ye in june for the big one. :-)

Well done with the win sunday.

We'll feel hard done by, but you need to be more than a point up heading into extra time, because, as we saw, anything can happen.

Game was played in the right spirit, hopefully we'll have another cracker in 3 weeks.

Well done Clare, great game Sunday.... I hope we can have the same on June 5th.. although I reckon it'll be back to the middle third of the pitch and tighter than a whales arse at 50 fathoms.

We have great teams either side.. one of us will go the distance this year.

Isn't it great to be able to walk out of a stadium and pass the opposition team bus unlike west ham supporters on the news at the moment !!

Clare won the battle last Sunday, but the war is yet to be won.

We have only played the first two installments out of four, and meet again on June 5th and September 4th.
Let's see if we're all still friends after that !

So moving on from the tremendous victory at the weekend the Clare players will be back with the clubs this week as first round of championship is down for this weekend.
Plenty of good match ups and hopefully an exciting championship ahead although it probably won't finish till October/November!!!

Feakle v cratloe..... Cratloe should have too much here anyway even without the suspended Conor McGrath.

Sixmilebridge v crusheen...... Know each other very well at this stage and I'd give the edge to the bridge as they continue to find new players while crusheen just have the same squad really.

Wolfe tones v Newmarket.....tough one to call as Newmarket have plenty of injuries so I'm going with tones to pull out the win.

Tulla v clarecastle....main news here will be if mcinerney plays any part. Think clarecastle should just have enough to nick this.

Clooney v Inamona.....side with Inamona on this one. Recent underage success and just have more throughout the team while Clooney will rely on Duggan.

Whitegate v mills.....don't know too much about these but I'll go with mills to just have enough to win.

Clonlara v kilmaley....2nd best game of the round. Lot of talent on show and personally think the champions will be one of these injury dependent. Kilmaley have had plenty of underage success lately and have a very balanced team while clonlara are full of inter county stars but will be without Conlon. I'll side with clonlara by 3 points.

And tie of the round IMO anyway as a townie!!! Is ballyea v Eire og. Eire og have a great manager in place now and good young players in the squad but not sure we have the experience to beat this ballyea team. Few key players missing for us especially ciaran Russell and if expect Tony kelly to be the difference. Hope for an open attacking game as Eire og have the forwards to hurt ballyea.

    The betting
    Cratloe 5/2
    Bridge 7/2
    Clonlara 9/2
    Ballyea, Eire og, Newmarket 11/1
    Kilmaley 12/1

Agree with this, we were lucky in the end really, we will need a number of key players to come back, the likes of conlon, oisin o brien and David Mac were badly missed, mcgrath was in my opinion was our best operator in the two games
But we need to sort out the full forward line with him, it is only a matter of time before teams come up with a plan for conlon when he comes back

Great to win the league but reality is the championship will offer a far bigger challenge, and whoever wins the next day will have huge momentum heading into a munster final, it will be hard for the loser to dust themselves down heading into the championship, unbeaten so far but we need a descent championship this year now

There is no doubt there will be one or two surprises this weekend. I would stick my neck for kilmaley against clonlara, agree with tones against Newmarket think they will win as well, reckon tulla will go very close against the magpies, think there could be big wins for eire of against a slightly depleted ballyea, while Inagh/klinamona will have too much for Clooney/quinn

The above acummulator looks worth a punt!
Fingers crossed no intercounty players are not injured in the club games

I'd be careful if it's my post your talking about, all four teams are odds against on paddy power kilmaley, Eire og, Wolfe tones and Inagh are around 32/1 in a 4 team accumulator,

But yeah the big thing now after such a good league would be to avoid any injuries, last year's first round championship games were a disaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

Clarecastle 0-19 0-17 tulla, two late points from the winners at the end to win it for the magpies, huge win for them guaranteeing that they won't have to worry about relegation playoffs this year

No intercounty injuries but David Mac didn't feature for tulla, so still a doubt for three weeks time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    cloony/quinn 4-13 1-19 inagh/kilnamona

couple of late goals swinging it for the winners in the end , no intercounty casualty's to report in this one either thankfully

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    o''callaghans mills 2-16 -1-13 whitegate

mills comfortable for most of this one could be a difficult championship for the north east clare men , again bugler and fahey the two intercounty men here came through unscathed

second half between cratloe and feakle started a short time ago in the park , good news in a small way from an intercounty point of view is connor mcgrath is suspended so did not line out , conor ryan starts midfield too so good to see him back half way through the second half and the first shock is on the cards with feakle leading 1-10 to 0-12

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    feakle 1-15 -0-16 cratloe

first big shock of the championship oisin donnellon's goal the difference , cratloe into the losers round , feakle avoid the possibility of relegation and can look forward to the rest of the summer with probably there main objective achieved, probably not the last we will see of cratloe though , again no injuries to report thus far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Limestone Cowboy

And crusheen beat the bridge! Interesting start to the championship to say the least!

yeah they are always close games between the bridge and crusheen , already cratloe, inagh/kilnamona,tulla whitegate sixmilebridge , the losers draw will be tougher then the winners draw after tomorrow

And ballyea or the townies to join them. Some fight in that crusheen team. I always thought they were lacking a bit in talent but they are awful hard to put away.

yeah ballyea eire og , kilmaley or clonlara , and a possibility of newmarket should they lose to wolfe tones tomorrow afternoon any 3 out of that 6 would be tough opposition , not an easy choice of a 2nd chance's really if faced with any of these

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

a round up of the yesterdays results , todays fixtures. EDIT: just to confirm the ballyea/eire og match is part of a double header in the park and not ballyea as stated below

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    wolfe tones 2-12 1-13 N.O.F

frantic finish to this one blues took the lead in injury time only for tones to respond with a goal , blues the 6th team into the losers round , big win for wolfe tones

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    Clonlara 2-21 -3-17 kilmaley

Great game in the park, kilmaley will be a serious threat in the play offs, no John conlon for Clonlara

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    Eire og 2-17 1-21 ballyea

Extra time here in the park to start shortly

    Hon the town!!! :D:D

great win for them in fairness they battled well in the second half , ballyea over reliant on one or two players for scores , david reidy was excellent in extra time

any idea of the final score ?

edit: checked twitter final score , eire og 3-26 1-23 balyea , great performance in extra time
