I didn't see much press coverage for this. In the last week , Team Mcann lost their 400k libel action against the head Portugese Investigator about the book he published "the truth of the lie"

Whether or not they had anything to do with her actual disappearance and death , I could never fathom why they weren't prosecuted for child neglect and endangerment,....esp if the Portuguese authorities were of the opinion they weren't squeaky clean

Why would anyone want to give publicity to a man seeking to profit from the abduction and presumably the death of a small child?

Whyever not? It seems the small childs parents have made quite a career from it

They lost a child.

Whether they were negligent, whether it was an accident and cover up, whether it was abduction...I'm sure they'd rather have their child and no "career" as you describe...

Clarence Mitchell, Cabinet Officer and head of the media monitoring unit in the British government , resigning from his position to speak on behalf of the McCanns as their press person, was very bizarre and telling in my opinion

Because the man in question was previously convicted of committing perjury when he falsified official records about the police investigation into the disappearance of another child a short distance away from where Madeline McCann disappeared.

I don't particularly like the McCann's, but I don't believe they had anything to do with the disappearance of their daughter.

He made the book freely available onliine until Team McCann put an injunction on it. I'm sure his loss of job and career and the legal bills he has had to pay to defend himself are very higher and that he won't be making much of a living, compared to the Top job that he had. Maybe he iust wants to tell the truth of the lie

In fact it was team McCann who wanted to make a movie out of this.

It is all moot now. No charges were ever brought, but the McCanns sure took that fella who wrote the book to the cleaners, and anyone else who said anything negative about them AFAIS.

Anyway, there is no way to suppress a book in this day and age. McGahern is dead may he rest in peace and his books were banned back in the day.

Apart from anything else, it is good that the author was allowed to write the book and not be sued for everything and more that he owned. It is only an opinion, and no one was arrested or charged.

Good decision in the interests balance IMV.

In fact it was team McCann who wanted to make a movie out of this.

To my mind the copper who wrote the book has always come across as extremely opportunistic and a bit of a loon.

The case of Amy Fitzpatrick, although a little older, sounds similar. Books, interviews etc at the time. Lots of searching too, but to no avail.

Still not found.

Her brother was killed too recently. Awful stuff.

That has been my take on it and this was reinforced for me when the trained and highly respected sniffer dogs brought in smelled cadaver and blood scents in the apartment and the McCann's hire car. Dogs don't have an agenda and in every case those dogs were involved with before and after they were right on the money. Might have been the exception that proved the rule, but both dogs at two different locations? Nope. Not for me. How the poor child died I don't nor can't know, but that there was a cover up by someone? Yep I'm pretty sure of that. Whoever covered it up was and remains one cold bastard(s). I can understand initial panic and guilt, but to keep that consistent and expand on it? Beggars belief.

a) Why the cover up?

b) Why court so much publicity?

Unless by accident you mean they overdosed their daughter? Because that was a theory at the time, but that would be manslaughter at the least.

Different people react to acute situations in different ways.

Lots of people interpreted them as looking unfeeling. I remember thinking they looked numb.

I don't understand why anyone would leave three little kids unattended, but they did, and they've paid the highest price possible for their neglect, they have the rest of their lives to be tormented by that.

I think they were neglectful and an opportunistic abductor did the rest. They're guilty of neglect, the abductor is guilty of the abduction.

I don't think they're killers, deliberately or accidentally. I think they come across as unlikeable, and that makes it easy for people to think that they are.

I agree with you to an extent but is there any parents that haven't made mistakes with their kids? Lets not forget tHat the real criminal here is the one who took her.

the mcanns will have to live with this for the rest of their lives and assuming they had nothing to do with it then they will suffer every day for their loss.

I hate even thinking about it and I have no connection to it.

If someone took her.

I personally think the child died following an accident. I don't think they killed her. I don't believe she was abducted.

I think they have a pretty good idea what happened in that particular case and who was responsible.

Oh I'm not saying it was an accident. It could have been. Was just challenging the comment that she was killed. It may have been an accident, it may have been murder, it may have been abduction.

I'd agree with all of that except that Madeline is the one who has paid (or is even still paying) the highest price.
