Eh... Walking with a jog... How is that not running a bit? :p (and no, aquinn didn't tell me to ask that...)

that was my nervous face :D I wouldn't mind but I started off with a big smile and welcome to parkrun speech, typical Ol to get the more serious photo :D

jogging downhill doesn't count as it doesn't raise the HR  it didn't work out that way anyway so obviously aquinn had a word with the running gods!

PM: Beer mile training: Having got some tips earlier I thought I"d get practising :p 4 tiger beers, easing myself in gently so only one down the hatch in 35 seconds, the rest are being sipped slowly at easy pace :D

I'm impressed! Is tiger beer 5%? Will have to get training myself! How are the others going down?

Ah that's a pity as I like tiger beer. Haven't tried the moosehead.

    Sunday 1st May

May!! How did we get to here already! 2lbs up on the scales this morning so that’s the end of the beer mile training!!!

    AM Gym:
    Bike: 15k in 35 mins as follows - 7k @ level 5, 3K at level 3 increased speed, 5K at level 4
    Rower: 1650m in 10 mins
Treadmill: 23 mins total - 15 mins @ 7% gradient 6.5kph speed, 5 mins at 0% & 7kph 1.5 mins at 7kpg jog.. HR was somewhere around the 120’s for the last 5 min section so I thought i’d leave the speed as it was and just jog, HR rose
Headed down for my post workout swim only to realise I”d forgotten my swimsuit - sigh. Raging.

PM walk: 4 miles along the canal with the dog, beautiful, calm, peaceful and not to many others out, was a bit grim on the 2 miles out but warm and the sun then broke through the clouds to make it a gorgeous day. Sat on the canal banking chilling out for about 15 mins after the walk.

PM Myrtl Routine: The last of this weeks functional movement exercises. A lot of work in the weeks ahead on these.

Actually considered heading back to the pool for a swim this eve as it was niggling in the back of my mind. Did the garden instead and I’ll get a swim in tomorrow instead.

Ok, I have to admit I'm a little confused! It seems from one post about the doctor that she's making sure you're not running but your next two posts are talking about jogging

At the risk of sounding abrupt, what are you hoping to achieve with the jogging? It's great to stay active with the other exercise - for routine, motivation, cross training etc but in the grand scheme of things for your running what is there to be gained with the jogging? Especially if the advice you're getting is to not be, would it not be better to wait, stop putting pressure on it and focus on the getting better now? As I said, not meaning to be smart but it was the basic question I asked myself when I wanted to jump straight back in with the PF or rush the tiny steps I was told to take when easing back in - what really would be gained?? Obviously that was after I had probably jumped back in too early a couple of months previous

I have no patience - I thought that was obvious!! I guess I'm just testing the waters to see if I'm there yet, or getting there - how else am I to know? You're right of course though Laura, thanks for the reminder :)

I hear ya, it's frustrating! I suppose wait and see what improvements the test and doc feedback show and maybe a tester every couple of weeks instead, possibly more likely to see progress in a longer turnaround tester time. Good luck anyway, good to hear doc is happy it's going in the right direction.

    Monday 2nd May
    AM: gym workout
    Bike: 35 mins @ level 5/4/3 5k each total 15K
    Rower: 10 mins @ 1650M
Swim: 100m BS, 100m fc, 100 bs, 100m fc, 100m bs - my first time trying breaststroke putting my head under the water, I usually just keep my head up but have to learn to develop my breathing across the styles, ended up with half the pool in my stomach by the end \
Followed up with 10 blissful mins solo in the sauna

PM: 3 mile walk local loop with the dog, no jogging….resisted the temptation to make this 4, mainly because the heavens opened on the by pass, with not a twig to shelter under, so a wet dog and wetter human who had stupidly left the house without a raincoat because it was a gorgeous day.

PM: FM workout 1 - much more success with that legover exercise, thanks for the tip FBOT! Your expertise knows no bounds :pac:

Laura is right, as is aquinn, I need to stop pushing myself but its very hard. Where is the fat overweight lazy smoker/drinker/junk food eater that existed only a few years ago?!! She would have had no problem taking orders to sit on the couch for a couple of months… anyway, I’ll do my best not to overdo things and please do pull me up on it if you spot me cheating though.

Entered the London 2017 ballot this morning, if your not in you can't win!

yes patience is required as no point in pushing too soon if it delays the overall recovery!!

    Tuesday 3rd May
Lunch: 3 mile walk @ 12:50, enjoyed this, lovely day for it
PM: 3 mile local loop with the dog @ 13:43, woody, you’re really wrecking my buzz, how does a dog with 4 legs manage to slow me down so much!!
PM: functional movement workout 2 - hip mobility - jeez these are hard!

    Wednesday 4th May
PM Walk: 3.32 miles local loop with the dog, brisk but not fast.
No functional movement exercises, opted for an early night instead.

    Thursday 5th May
PM Walk: 2.7 miles with the dog
PM Bike: 15 mins stationary bike before pilates class @ level 5
PM Pilates: 45 mins - enjoyed this class, different teacher and she explained each move in detail, still tough but much more bearable..
PM Swim: 20 mins - bliss, a lovely easy swim the pool post pilates, no screaming kids & only two others in the water

    Friday 6th May
Squat - not an actual squat - diddly squat!
Had planned to go to the gym after work but the king of Rotterdam text to join him & Mrs tang for a post work beer and how does one refuse his royal marathoness?! It’s been so long I wondered if I’d remember what looks like - did a quick scan of the bar, spotted Mrs Tang but thought I’d made a mistake as she was sitting with some bloke in a pink top - PINK?! Very fetching tang :p. 3 beers later and a dog that was undoubtedly crossing his legs meant I had to leave. So no gym, no walk and on beer no 4 now. #badinfluence. I could try Myles’s balance exercises but I’m not sure how that might go.. On the upside I got some beer mile training in knocking the last beer back in 45 seconds :D

TBL for what it’s worth the boy is in good shape, you've got some work ahead if you want to STD :D

    Saturday 7th May

Cabinteely Parkrun: funnell manager, course setup and eh a bit of other training  Got a bit of walking done as helped put the signs out pre run, lashed rain but that never takes from the enjoyment. Didn't really earn the scone I wolfed into post race but sure its Saturday!
    Gym:
    Bike: 15K @ level 5
    Rower: 10 mins 1600m
    Treadmill: 10 mins @ 7.5km
    Swim: 15 mins @ easy
Feeling a bit on the tired side today :p didn’t have the energy to put in 100% but somethings better than nothing!
PM Walk: Ramble around Carton House trails with the dog

    Sunday 8th May
AM: quick walk with the dog before setting off for the back of beyond, or as tang calls it, home :D met a super group of boardsies at the canal near Enfield for the Boards Canal run, walked 5 miles in the company of Aero2K, thank you so much for your company today, I would have undoubtedly jogged had you not been there. The surroundings were beautiful and tang organsied a lovely summers day for us, followed up with pancakes and tea at the local hostelry.
PM Gym: Headed straight to the gym post canal walk,
    Bike: 15K Bike @ level 5
    Rower: 10 mins @ 1660
Swim: 100m BS, 100M Bs, 100m FC, 100M BS 100M Bs oh so lovely - really enjoying these swims (probably helped by the fact they are the equivalent of a 1K run ) relaxation in the sauna afterwards (no storys Mrs Mac sorry)

Got home, threw on the shorts (23 degrees!!) walked the dog, cut the grass, had a beer in the garden - absolute bliss… long may this weather last!

    PM: Functional Movement Workout 4

A big thanks to tang1 for organising today’s outing, I can’t wait for the next one and hilariously funny to meet another clubmate there with the whole ‘I know you from somewhere’ conversation :D

    Monday 9th May

    3 miles lunch walk @ 13:05
3.5 miles evening walk with woody @ 14:24

    Tuesday 10th May
    3 miles lunch walk @ 13:24
    3.5 evening walk @ 14:08

    Wednesday 11th May
    2.6 miles @13:55
    3.5 miles @ 14:13

Okay, I’ll be honest, it’s been a tough week so far. For some reason after a lovely day on Sunday I’ve been struggling this week with a very large black cloud that’s hovering right overhead. I really really really wanted to run at lunchtime on Tuesday, I didn’t, but was at the point where I thought I’d rather risk the consequences and dig myself out of this depression. Instead I opted for a soak in the bath, a glass of wine and an early night, which helped a bit. Funny (not really) when my GP originally said no running I asked her what I was supposed to do instead to keep the demons at bay - she shrugged her shoulders  helpful, not. I haven’t done any of myles exercises which is shockingly bad but have zero motivation at the moment, not at all like me. I’m really hoping to have a bike by the weekend and having that to start commuting and getting out a bit more over the weekends will help no doubt. Meanwhile, a good kick up the backside is in order.

It's not a kick to exercise more it's to do less.

That's a hell of a lot of walking when you are to be taking it easy.

You're still tracking walks and pace but can you not try to go out and have a gentle and easy walk and stop belting around the place.

The GP said no running due to heart rate? I only realised this morning that when I was on the stationery bike that sure of course your HR is going to rise and same with the rower. If no running as it raises HR should it not be the same for bike and rower?

I know how hard you are finding this resting period but it's for you and your health. You will lose fitness but it's not the end of the world, you will build it back up. It's your health that is important.

I'm not posting this to annoy you but out of concern. You need to go easy on yourself and give yourself a break.

Typing from my Macbook on the sofa :)

Same thing as aquinn crossed my mind a couple of times in recent weeks, you have been doing a lot ... some of those walking paces are quite close to my pace from my "run" this evening. Sorry to hear you're under a cloud at the moment. I hope that dog is earning his keep by giving some support ;)

I know you mean well a, this is nothing to do with loosing fitness, running is my coping mechanism and I've lost it, I have no way to cope (wine doesn't count). Usually when I"m having a tough time I'll run hard, it works well and its an awful lot better than the drugs on offer (for me). At the moment my HR during walks is sub 100, I might as well be sitting on the couch for what that's worth. The rower and the bike are all sub 135, nothing strenuous. I appreciate your concern but in this instance that's not the problem. It'll pass, it just might take longer without the ability to go out and run it off.

Only natural you will feel like this AM, running is such a great way to get rid of the stress of life and work and anything else that comes your way. you have been doing so well recently you just gotta take the bad days with the good days a bit like training and racing and write them off and move onto the next day. Tomorrow is always a new day. How about taking your aggression out on decluttering your wardrobe or some of those jobs you have around the house that never get done cause you are always running. Getting those summer potted flowers done in the garden so that when you look out into the garden it will give you a lift, then you can come over and do my garden for me !! ;) Keep smiling :D
