Just realised that the new site is called 'responsive site'.

Probably the funniest thing I've heard all week :D

Well I really wanted to like the new layout, but I've given up and gone back to the old one today, and have also voted no.

And believe me I tried. I really did, despite the problems getting on to the last post read in a thread (I still haven't found that option) and the impossibility of knowing where to click in some cases (My threads options that don't come up in bold when you go over them) etc etc.

What finished me off though was the carry on of having to scroll back up to the top of each page in order to click on "next page".

That's ridiculous, and evidence IMO that the new system isn't actually designed to be user-friendly. It's designed for some other users, maybe the IT guys who run it, but not for the end user.

Unless there is a good deal of improvement, I'm not using the new system again.

How can I go back to the new layout?

If that i the case then that's pretty daft. That said the number of those who close their accounts and come back, sometimes within hours suggests it's easy enough to register, never mind the rolling reregs that sign up. One weirdo signs up every single day, or close to it. Maybe you've an email server it doesn't like or are posting from overseas or something?

It took me a few weeks to join. There was a glitch where the page didn't load properly

I haven't tried, but possibly if you log out and log back in again?
Failing that, there must be something in settings perhaps?

I think that clicking 'responsive site' at the bottom should work.

Facebook is killing boards.ie and other discussion forum.

I've been toying around with closing my account here for awhile since the things which interest me (martial arts, motorbikes and cycling) are pretty much covered on facebook without heavy handed moderation.

When this change goes permanent I think that will be the step too far and I'll be gone (some will say that's a good reason to roll it out faster lol).

    It's awful, absolutely dreadful.

It's not helping and IMH staying "old style" is the better bet, rather than rolling out a half baked change trying to compete with something like Facebook. You can't. Again IMH there still exists a market for the old style Boards layout. Reddit is hardly fancy, looks like something from the 90's and it's flying.

TBH M I can't abide Facebook and conversations are too disjointed, if they're conversations at all. Like I say BB style communities still have their place. As for moderation; it's too evident here, it's too much part of the culture as a thing. A lighter touch would be nice in some forums anyway.

Aye, even with the passage of time and time spent with the new look and feel and fully aware and appreciative of the work behind the scenes I agree there. It's dire and oddly wrongheaded. As I said before clearly They had a Meeting(™) and outside experts - and I use the term loosely - were brought to bear. The claim that these GUI experts couldn't navigate the forum as is tells us all we need to know about that. Reddit is all over the place and not exactly easy to just jump in and Boards was more so called "confusing" at it's peak and every attempt to simplify it since has picked away at the forums, the user base and the community.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

It's like a 58 year old guy wearing clothes designed for a 20 year old - looks wrong and a bit pathetic. He should have the confidence to be who he is and be comfortable in his own skin... people will respect him more for it in the end.

The moderation is what's killing boards.ie. People are so used to Facebook and Reddit and other social media sites now where you can say basically whatever you want. You have to filter what you say on boards.ie...or it will be filtered for you by a moderator and you'll get a 'warning' or some other ridiculous nonsense.

The thing I hate most about this site is whenever people start arguing you have moderators coming in and ordering people around. That might have worked in the past but people have gotten used to saying whatever they like on the big social media sites these days and no longer like being patronised on boards.ie.

Nevermind the fact that when opinions get heated and there are vicious arguments it makes for much better reading...who really cares if someone insults some other random person on an internet forum or says something non-PC...its not a big deal and there is entertainment value in it..and people are on this site for entertainment primarily. Case in point: Donald Trump over the last 9 months. Pure entertainment value and gaining massive attention whether people like what he says or not.

I suppose boards.ie is just boring now. This is the place where you'll see moderators locking a thread that has gotten heated and giving out to posters for arguing in said thread..and then moaning to the posters about how they have to 'go back and clean it up' and delete posts before it can be unlocked as if the posters were children who messed up the place and an adult needs to clean up after it. Absolutely ridiculous pretentious patronising nonsense, but none of the mods/people in charge see it like that as they are completely out of touch with what people want, and expect, from a social media plaform nowadays.

To be a moderator in the first place requires an awful lot of unpaid work...naturally people who volunteer are the ones who value wielding a bit of power on the net enough that they are willing to work for free for a commercial entity. So I don't see how these people could even grasp this issue that is severely hurting the site and has ruined the posting experience. I'm only posting now to mention this issue, even though the chances of this post being taken on board are negligible. I stopped posting on boards.ie years ago because of the moderation.

People complain too about Reddit's moderating system of downvotes, but whether its downvoted or not people still get to say what they want, can get into an proper argument if the conversation goes like that, and can get a reaction from the community (in the form of the voting), they don't get ordered around like they do here.

Long story shot, people prefer not to be told what they can and can't say and hence they are spending more time on sites like FB and Reddit, whereas boards.ie is stuck in the past when it comes to discussion, treating people like idiots that have to have to be kept in line and have their discussions moderated. No wonder younger people in particular are turning away...the older users are well used to this moderation as they have been using the site for years...but for younger people who grew up with social media it must seem mind-numbingly stiff and boring!

Laughable. And incredibly annoying to have your posts deleted..it is just a terrible, and off-putting, user experience. This is the type of patronising nonsense that has ruined boards.ie.

As I read your post I was thinking about some mods whose style I never seem to agree with because it seems like they do things just to show that they're doing something, rather than actually keeping the debate mature and constructive. The type who will warn a random person in a thread and then let everyone else in the same thread do the exact same thing (because it's often the point of the thread to begin with!), but hey, their job is done there because they've shown up and written in bold.

I wasn't going to post about it because I didn't want to name names but.... yeah......

I'm hoping that it's a work in progress and that these features will be added in. I still prefer the current layout. Safari has the list of forums missing which is weird as well.
