My first slow set was to Purple Rain, with a Prince freak, in the late 80s. (It didn't last...)

Even though I wouldn't be a major Prince fan, I can see how talented he was as a musician, song-writer, and performer, and a very interesting character too. His music style doesn't really appeal to me, yet I love Beck's Prince rip-offs (Midnight Vulture-era especially).

TMZ are reporting that his "flu" last week was actually an opiate overdose. He'd been in frail health for a number of years, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some self-medication going on

Ya the daily fail are saying it was an overdose as well . Thats really sad id say the death of his son really affected him by reading about it. Hopefully they are now together.

I remember hearing a great story from Questlove (drummer from The Roots) who was DJing one of Prince’s after-parties. Prince fired him mid-set because he didn’t like the music (Questlove was playing some Fela Kuti at the time) and replaced him with a DVD of Finding Nemo on the big screen.

I remember that bit, something like "Whose show is this?" but he was absolutely electric, still whenever anyone asks me about best gigs I've been to it ranks up in the very top few shows I've ever seen.

I caught him in 2007 in London too at the O2, he was as enigmatic as ever, playing cover versions and odd album tracks and then just running through 3 or 4 absolute smash hits, cream, U got the look, if I was your girlfriend.

He had a talent unlike anyone else, writer, musician, singer, performer, producer, he could do it all and did do it all and he did it on his own terms.

In fairness when I heard the "Flu-Like Symptoms"........ I smelt a bit of self-medicating had gotten out of hand.

Obviously nothing confirmed yet but this guy died far too young that's for sure.

Tbh does it really matter? I suppose covering it up leads to journalists "investigating", but it's hardly scoop of the year.

Memories of the time I saw him in the Point, 2002, coming back. Not only the best live guitarist I've ever seen but very funny too.

Doing a shuffling walk, he called it the 'Ozzy Osbourne', and claimed that the Edge owed him money for a car or something.

377 songs have been made by sampling Prince according to Whosampled! And on the other side of things he sampled 87 songs himself so not against it at all by the looks of things

I watched his on stage version of Nothing Compares 2 U for the very first time on The One Show on BBC1 tonight. I have to say I really loved it.

In music terms it's without a doubt a much better version of the song than Sinead O'Connor's version.
