Just heard this news, I'm gutted.
Too many legends have died already this year.

Devastated since the news broke today. My first concert was Prince in 1990. It was controversial then that the concert would go ahead considering the reviews of his previous tour " Lovesexy " The GAA were up in arms about the concert going ahead in Pair Ui Caoimh saying it was a little too raunchy for their grounds.

Please let the rumours about AIDS be untrue

Really shocked when I heard that today. A true legend. I know this year has been bad for celeb death but I can't think of anyone except Bowie. Who else was there?

    Glenn Frey and George Martin.

    Prince?

It doesn't seem possible, he didn't have to obey the normal laws of physics and biology like the rest of us.

We've lost a true and proper legend, a legitimate musical genius.

Certainly not physics. Skip to the end of the vid. Where dafuq does that telecaster go?!?

    Raspberry beret.
The first song that I loved on my own, no parents music influence. Heard it in a shop one day getting my shoes for back to school. Must have been 6 or 7.
    Life long fan since.

Mother's face at the sight of the ' lovesexy' album. On cassette!!!!!!!

Prince in 1995 went to what was called the POD now The Red Box I think and remember reading he said it was the best nightclub venue he had ever seen in Europe.
At his concert in Cork I was lucky enough to be right up front and apart from remembering being in musical bliss remember also how nearly angelical looking he and all his backing singers were.
Then during the concert there was like a bit of instrumental and the crowding started doing this corny ole ole ole ole ( Ireland were in the middle of Italia 90) and Prince went "hey I thought I was the one doing the show here"
Also remember the support group was some traditional Irish piece with the fiddle. Couldn't figure that one out. The crowd booed when they played. Wasn't the right act for supporting the legend that is the iconic rock funk star Prince.
    RIP Prince.

Hard to find videos on Youtube, so I'll post this homage. I would have never listened to Prince if it hadn't been for these guys.

Prince is dead and MTV is showing "My Super Sweet 16 Mega Meltdowns"

Time to turn the lights out on humanity, Sign O The Times indeed...

Ah in fairness mtv died years ago. It's all kardashian style garbage these days. Music tv my left ball!! Bbc4 has taken that mantle.

Genuinely sad about this, loved most of his stuff. Also, purple rain, staple of every slow set around the country in the early 90's!!!

I didn't think anybody under thirty would have a clue about him

I'm in my mid-20's and I've been a fan of his for years.

    There are always exceptions.

I suppose his point was that Prince kind of fell off the radar in the mid '90s (at a stretch) and before that he was HUGE, so most young'uns wouldn't really know him that well.

Sure, I'm 35, and I feel that Prince was a little before my time...in his prime at least.

Was never really a huge fan of the music he produced apart from a few songs.

Was undoubtedly one of the best musicians of the last 50 years though. Even if you don't like his stuff you could almost be guaranteed that stuff you did like was produced by people inspired in one way or another by him.

You do know that MTV have a bucket load of channels and that music is played constantly on everyone of them apart from the basic MTV channel.

What is going this year!! All these legends of stage and screen dropping dead.

I love Prince even though I am too young to remember when him in the 80s when he first came out....Raspberry Beret and When Doves Cry are among my favourite songs of all time.

    RIP Prince.

My husband was a massive fan. Is a massive fan. He brought out all his concert stuff and memorabilia last night and we watched hours of clips on the news interspersed with some of Prince's great songs, old and new. What a talent. I'm so glad I got to see him live in concert once.
