Warren Gatland's alma mater Hamilton BHS first XV are playing an U20 Presidents XV at Blackrock RFC on Wednesday night. Apparently they've already had 2 wins up north including beating the Ulster Schools team. Any of our Nordie posters see them or hear anything about the games?

From what I've heard the Hamilton team is pretty good. I think they have 4 national titles over the last 9 or 10 years.

They beat Inst by 20 points on Friday night and they won the Ulster Schools Cup this year. Assuming they were at full strength (hard to know with exams coming up) that Inst side would have 3 or 4 Irish U18 players in it.

The Rugby Paper claims the new LTA is done and dusted, and is twice as much as it was before:

    http://www.therugbypaper.co.uk/featured-post/25644/exclusive-rfu-agree-220m-deal-for-their-premiership-clubs/

If they are saying this then that means it's likely miles away from being agreed and will probably be worth about half as much.

The French player who was shouting at Romain Poite has received a 15 month ban

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,546 ✭✭✭swiwi_

The French are absolute jokes when it comes to disciplinary matters so I don't have much faith it'll happen but that Oyannax player should be banned for a very very very long time.

    Ye of little faith IO...

TBH, I'm not surprised. They have been very variable when it comes to punshing foul play, but once ref abuse was involved, I expected them to come down hard - the French don't appreciate that sort of attack on authority, and I reckon the refs union could have quite feasibly gone on strike/blocked the roads with tractors etc if he'd been left off with a slap over the wrist.

Fair play to the French, no-one wants rugby turning into soccer.

A 15 month ban? If he came from a tier 1 rugby nation it would be an 8 week ban tops.
I hope there's an appeal lodged immediately

I'm not condoning what he did. He deserved a big ban, but 15 months? Given his age that basically ends his career. Would a French international have got that length of a ban? Maybe I do the LNR a disservice and they would hand out an equally long ban for a French player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,047 ✭✭✭Bazzo

Are France not a tier 1 nation any more?

    He's Ivorian, not French.

That said I think 15 months is fine and I doubt it has anything to do with his nationality. Yes, it's probably the end of his career but I don't know if that should impact the decision of the citing committee and behaviour like that deserves a very length ban.

I'll look out for the full written judgment but I'd say a large part of the suspension relates to Tian's attempt to confront the officials after the game (43 seconds in). This was far worse than Dylan Hartley's cheat comment at Wayne Barnes. I also think his age/experience counts against him. We also don't know, maybe someone can clarify, if he has any previous suspensions. If Delon Armitage did that then he would deserve 15 months given his rap sheet.

No Irish players in the shortlist for European player of the year. Logical enough.

Premiership clubs are also pushing hard for the Championship’s unwieldy promotion play-off system to be scrapped and replaced by a traditional first-past-the-post arrangement to prevent ambitious sides like Bristol becoming marooned in tier two.

In other words "The fact that Bristol and Yorkshire are still in the Championship is scuppering our plans to stop promotion and relegation, so we need to find some way to get them promoted asap"

I fairness though, a playoff to come up a league is ridiculous. The team that finishes top deserves promotion. Even in the pro 12 having a playoff for a winner is just a spin off to generate games and money and big TV moments, but to be promoted it should be first past the post.

He got 99 years from his club , the Argentinian Union banned him for 28 years..

    Fully deserved though

Flat out criminal assault to be honest..lucky to avoid criminal conviction for that.

Argentina vs Australia at Twickenham ain't cheap: http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/the-rugby-championship-argentina-v-london-08-10-2016/event/350050778A2A12CA?artistid=3001747&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=225 It's on the last weekend of fixtures also so it's likely to be a dead rubber.

McCaw wants Schmidt for NZ coach. And so shall it come to pass?

No he doesn't. He was asked the usual leading Q to which he gave the usual diplomatic response. And the Irish media did the rest. He's not opposed to it of course but nor is he leading a campaign.

The press pretty much print what they want. I remember getting stopped in the Dundrum shopping centre years ago by the Irish Examiner. Asking questions about the government.

"Would you say the government are doing a great job?"

    "Not particularly"

Next day...MF lashes government and says they have failed the electorate.

Yeah that's exactly what I said.

This. They were clearly after a headline by asking the question. McCaw was hardly going to lol and say "no way".

Schmidt doesn't have the pedigree that NZ want in their coaches so if he really wanted to coach them
He would have to go back to NZ for a few years and be successful
    As a super rugby coach

    Go Martin!!

Does anyone remember his daughter on the late late show and she had a particularly short skirt on. She sat with her legs crossed and you could practically see her arse!! The comments on boards were priceless. Posters asking why Pat Kenny didn't tell her she was showing so much flesh!!

"So Theresa how did it feel like growing up in a republican house? And by the way pull your skirt down love...I can see both cheeks of your arse!!"
