The joys of contacting support. In my first message I said I tried it in multiple USB ports and different PCs. Guess what the first thing they asked me to do a day later? I cant play games if my mouse only has 3 buttons like some pleb.

All signs point to its dead Jim so let's skip the crap and get me a replacement.

Drives are good, DDR4 chillin after 10 hours of Memtest, CPU happy to be tortured... and my known-good HD6850 I replaced my 380 with is s***ting out BSoDs and even BIOS and Win7 startup freezes after half a dozen scorched-earth driver reinstalls.

    I don't even.

I need some feedback on homeplugs.

I'm flicking through amazon reviews of 2 different brands but nobody's mentioning latency, just speeds. I need to know if they're viable for online PvP. I don't need much speed and I don't mind if I lose even half the speeds I get (50mbps) from direct wired as long as the latency remains low for fighting games. Most negative reviews of them complain about them just turning off or going into standby. Anyone got experience using them or having any such issues? Drop some brand names if you've had good experiences, I could use reccomendations.

I was using homeplugs for a while there in my last place. Pings wired were usually around 5-10ms, with homeplugs they were also around 5-10ms.

As for speed, the house had very crappy wiring, so it wasn't great, but it was still around 70-80Mbps. Probably much better if they're closer.

I've used these, and these. Both were great, and pretty comparable (and actually work together too, which ice nice).

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick response - yes it does help. They were one of the ones I was already looking at and about to buy but thougt I'd check here. Might as well give these a go since those speeds seem fine and amazon is good with returns anyway even if the worst deos happen.

    Thanks again.

No problem. I'd probably go with the second set I linked though. While both are billed as 500Mb units, AFAIK the first set only come with 10/100 connections, so they can't actually use all of the speed they're rated for.

I could be completely wrong on that one, but I seem to remember seeing that somewhere. As I never broke 100Mb because of crappy wiring it was never really a concern for me.

With 100Mb ports you'll never go above 92-95Mb. With 1000Mb ports you can get up to 150-200Mb with a really good DLAN link, 500/600Mb rated speeds aren't seen outside the lab.

Yeah, I knew the rated speeds weren't a thing, just wasn't sure what the max was as I'd never tested it. I think I tried it once, with both homeplugs in the same 2-port socket, and I got 420Mb. :P

Aw shucks. Already ordered the first link you posted. Would've been nice to future proof that purchase but it won't really hurt me now since the bottleneck for speeds in my apartment are like 62mbps or something anyway and I'm only paying for 50. I guess I have a 100mbps cap even for LAN activities now, though.

No no. No more buyer's remorse. Not until I actually try the things out :P

If it's via Amazon you can very easily cancel your order. Nothing really happens until dispatch prep.

Hmm. I checked. They're a bit more expensive and don't have free shipping to UK (i use parcel motel). I think I'll stick with the order I made. On a very tight budget ATM.

Well, Dabs have wound up operations.

Slightly concerned now about my €500 monitor....

Managed to get 2 Dell 23" monitors for 50 quid total off of dabs before they closed up. Pricing error that was honored :D

Its April, is it possible there wont be a new GPU out in 2016? Neither Pascal or whatever island seem to be appearing.

Read both Nvidia and Amd releasing a stop gap updated version of previous gpus.

Nice. They were good for that actually. I ordered 4 Hiper 620W PSU's at 17.19 a piece a year ago, they were meant to be 71.99. All were honored! I suppose it's about not taking the piss, there are people out there whose first move would be to order 20 monitors/psu's.

I got my Freesync monitor in the end, thankfully.

Was pointed out to me by a guy in work. I think between everyone in work we must have ordered about 40 of them... all at €25 quid each instead of like €200. And they were sent by UPS :pac:

Where? I heard that both Polaris and Pascal are coming out later this year, though I suspect their launches are slipping (and for Pascal at least may well be on paper) and they're going to be bandwidth-starved, GDDR5 still being the only economical memory tech available and both GPUs likely trying to keep to 256bit memory bus width or lower to increase the amount of usable GPUs not slaughtered by fab defects.

That said, neither line are based on old tech but neither line are meant to be high-end and with even Pascal on GDDR5 the odds of them beating the GTX980, with or without suffix, seems slim. They're more targeted at replacing current 370/380/390/960/970 lines.

Also, rumour is that Vega is slipping due to HBM2 and Pascal+ (GP102) has been or is being redesigned to run on GDDR5X or even GDDR5 to beat AMD to market by an unknown duration. So yeah, things are looking bad for the next-gen top-tier appearing this year and even if nVidia manages it it may be at the cost of major sacrifices and yet more bandwidth issues.

PC Gamer had articles on both being delayed for above reasons.

I was actually going to buy whatever winner came out this year :(

My 10 year old PSU is finally starting to give up the ghost :( It had a good run!

Now I can delve into the wonderful world of modular PSUs.

Have you guys seen the new version of boards they're rolling out in the next few weeks? It's absolutely dreadful and I think it's going to kill traffic but they don't seem to agree at all.

Click on 'turn on beta' at the bottom of the home screen....

Between AdBlock, ScriptSafe, themes, and the fact that I never visit the front page, I don't think I'll mind too much. Doesn't look great though, I'll admit.

It's fairly awkward to use on mobile too, I normally welcome change but don't like this

Ewh, where's my dark theme gone? :ermm:

Can also confirm i cant find the "turn off beta" button on mobile lol
Looks terrible but maybe its because i am just so used to the touch site on mobile. Be cool if when it goes live they add a "Turn on legacy Version" buttom

I'm still on the old "--boards.ie Beta" skin from I'm guessing the early 00's. IMO way better than any of the newer changes.

That's the vbulletin 3.x default skin, and what I still use as well. It'll be a horrible day when we are forced away from it to use the new monstrosity of an interface. I'm sure we'll get used to it though, but I really hate it.

That poll had over 97% of respondants saying they didn't like it when I checked it earlier.

I would encourage you guys if you're not happy to post in the Feedback thread.

At this point I think all they care about is $$$, one of the heads just posted this:

Not sure what strain of crack they're smoking but in my opinion they're going to kill the site with this nonsense.

Dav is normally on point, I think they're just suffering from idle developer syndrome. Takes a couple guys to keep the site up but does't take 80hrs a week so they forge on fixing the unbroken.
