You'd think Reddit and itch.io would take care of this affliction.

Tried it for a few days, really annoyed me. Little distinction or demarcation between the text and the site/menus. Also from a design perspective, they have forgotten that Google and other sites have trained us that the top and left hand side of a screen are only useful if looking to navigate.

It's cleaner, but at the expense of a lot of screen real estate. The TALK TO dropdown almost covers an entire 1080p screen... I actually just realised that I have a few extra pixels in height on this screen so it probably does cover it all. That means you have to move to a different dropdown and then move the mouse off the dropdown in order to get back to the screen you were on. I don't mind change, but at least consider usability too.

Also not sure what the story is with the touch site but it seems to have been replaced all together by some bastardization that is much less functional on mobiles, no idea if it's on purpose or not.

After reading a bit of the feedback thread it does not look like leavimg feedback will matter, the boards team seem to have made up there mind anyway.

Also just a quick price query:
    i5 3570k stock cooler
    Asrock extreme 4 Z77
    8Gb 1600Mhz ram

    Was thinking about €240?
Got them a couple of months ago to mess around with hosting a game server but was more hassle than was worth so gonna just get rid now.

Most definitely looks like that, start archiving what you can, we're entering shark jump territory.

Unfortunately the legacy site has become so buggy in the last couple days it's unusuable for me, and the new site is also quite buggy on top of annoying the **** out of me.

I got a lot more work done today than I normally do :P

Iv downgraded from my trusty Reference r9 290 to a GTX760 but I have 200 to spend on a new card. Would a r9 380 or GTX960 (both 4gb) be enough of an upgrade over a 760 to be considered worthwhile?

Only got rid of the 290 because it was loud af.

The 380 isn't too far off the 290 afaik, it's the middle ground between the 280X and 290, so I suppose if those levels of gains are worth it for you. 760 is worth about €130-140 atleast I would think so it's not an expensive upgrade

Cheers, i have the 200 from the sale of the 290. I was going to give the 760 to my nephew for his PC so my options would be to buy another 760 for 100 or a r9 380 for 200. I think id like the extra grunt. I dont play games often but its nice to have the horsepower for high on 1080p which the 760 struggles with.

Would it make sense to wait and save to get a 390 or wait for Pascal even later in the summer?

The 380 is way off the 290, it's slower than the 280X I thought?

Maybe look it up Recurve, always possible I'm mistaken. Especially when I've been doubted :pac:

760 to 960 isn't worth it anyways, so if 380=960 then save for a 390 or wait for Pascal

What a about Going for a second hand 770 for about 150? My old one was pretty damn good at all the new games on fairly high or ultra settings. I'm thinking of getting another one myself to tie me over for a few months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭Recurve360

Thanks guys for the feedback. I think ill wait and see if anything pops up in the next few months, another alternative is a non reference 290. Im in no rush as I have the 760 for the time being :)

No, 6 and 7 series Nvida cards are performing like garbage the last while, there is a whole ongoing discussion about whether Nvidia are doing it on purpose to force upgrades. Waste of money. I've seen benchmarks in 2015 titles where the 780Ti loses to a GTX960, and the GTX680/GTX770 perform worse than an R9 270 which is just ridiculous - remarkably, AMD cards are not affected in the slighest and continue to perform excellently.

Get a HD7970 Ghz instead if looking for a 2nd hand card that budget.

lads do you think G-Sync 4k 60hz is worth it.

Im thinking of getting a 4k monitor but not sure should I go for G-Sync or not

This monitor looks interesting but no G-Sync

Can't speak for Gsync but I have a Freesync monitor and I'm not exactly blown away, it's a nice feature but going forward I would put more priority into screen quality over it.

That's a very interesting take. I'd love to see what NVIDIA would counter with if we had some sort of market reversal three years down the line.

140W CPU with a H80i, yay or nay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Judging from this (you can change load to 150W) I'd say nay...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Missed that part of that article before, interesting how their results shuffle at different loads (H75 is good at lower loads but fails horribly at high load comparatively).

150W, low fan speed (7v) with H80i GT is 15 odd *C delta. 30 Degree room, 45 Degree CPU, that isnt so bad.

240mm would be cooler but mean warm intake into the case (GPU) but sticking to 120mm I can have rads throwing heat out along with a blower style GPU to keep the internal air nice and cool.

    Hmmm hmmmm hmmmmm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Another H80i type thing on the GPU an option? Might even out temps a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Possible, but would be a pain when changing GPU which is more regular than platform changes.

Really custom loop would be ideal but not ready to go there just yet.

    PITA upgrades, money, time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Long overdue new build with a bit of budget creep going on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Gotcha. I'd shoot for 240mm on the CPU then if you can. Even the crappiest of 240mm AIOs will outperform thick 120mm ones.

It would mean more heat in the case, yeah, but GPUs are so efficient these days (especially with Pascal/Polaris) they don't need much cooling. Probably simply because the dies are so massive compared to CPUs.

Might be best, will have a play with the beancounting.
