I scrubbed in a new rear tyre, then after, realised I also actually need a new front and new brake pads

    That's funny.

Put on some bar end mirrors... then realised I didn't have a big enough spanner to remove the standard mirrors :D

Had some view of behind me this morning though!!! :pac:

One adjustable wrench purchase later, and I'm just using the bar end mirrors :)

Also took the windscreen off, gives the bike a lower profile. Felt so different when I sat on it this morning.

Next job is probably to get it sprayed, but I'll need both money and advice on the frame work... Seems daft getting the tank and body panels sprayed, but the frame not being done.

Fitted new hot grips to the funduro. Almost impossible to get the throttle side on. Also fitted an Ultimate Addons power pack

Couldn't get out for a spin today so settled with giving it a scrub, threw on a coat of wax and fit some Evotech crash mushrooms.

I also tried to put some red rim tape on. But I don't have a front paddock stand and found it quite difficult without it so that job will have to wait for another day.

Was kinda thinking that myself when I stood back and looked at it on the bike.
    Im in 2 minds now.

I think it takes away from the "flow" of the bikes aesthetics.
When i add stuff to a bike i think whatever is added looks like it was meant to be there and its not something added on.

I think the carbon effect there just takes away from the bike purely because the multiple colors on the Mudguard match the colors o nthe fairing.

It may not look so out of place is the bike was a single color all over

I agree, not for me. Stunts the front flow.

Its more or less invisible there. May aswell just be black

Just my 2 cents stewy, but put back on that stunning original mudguard!
Your R1 has one of the nicest colour schemes I have seen on any bike.
Whatever about covering the frame and engine, there is no way i'd take some of those beautiful colours off the bike.

edit: oh, and your wheel rim tape goes better with the original mudguard.

I just had a stupid idea,

What is I took the carbon blade shock covers off the R1M mudguard and put them onto the sides of the painted mudguard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭goodlad

I think it will look weird. Again, purely because the color scheme of the bike.

If you are going to add on shock covers i think they need to be black/blue/white

Stuck these on the bike today.
Had to pull both end cans off the bike to get a perfect fit and trim down the metal band to size.

Started the bike up with the end cans off....bloody hell,me ears. Some sound off a big bang engine with no end cans.Akin to the M1 MotoGP bike:eek::D

Also dropped the footpegs down 1 level to give my legs some extra comfort.

Might be worth servicing the calipers while you have a wheel off. Its something I always try to do because it gives you a chance to check the pads and make sure everything's working exactly as it should be you scrub in the new tyre!

Tbh the tyre was already scrubbed. Took a nice spin around the country for a few days and checked the bike over beforehand and all was grand-ish. Figured the tyres would make it till I got back + a little more. I was wrong though and got caught needing a new rear half way through.
Got sorted in a shop and thought nothing more of it till I went for a short spin a few days later after getting home and felt the brakes ****ed. I'd get away with the front tyre for another while but I'd rather change it sooner than later.
As soon as I get the bits and the time I'll be giving the calipers a going over properly when changing everything.
Tis terrible how long the finger gets sometimes

Got out this morning and did my first proper bit of work since I bought the bike.

Front right indicator was snapped at the stalk and hanging off by its wire so I picked up some LED replacements on ebay.

    N5U5Ho2.jpg

Got it off the bike and snipped the plastic connecter plug off. Soldered that onto the new indi and threw some electrical tape on.

Im pretty happy with the look of them, could be a bit brighter though. Im gonna pick up some resistors to slow the flashing and stick them on when i do the back.

Comparison. Didnt get a snap with both sides done.

Hopped on the Aprilia on Sunday looking forward to a good spin on it.
Pushed starter and bike turns over but won't fire!

Got around to sorting it today.
    Just needed new plugs.

Bit of a pain..seat off, side panels off, tank off and move airbox out of the way.
Even at that it's a bit tight to get at the plugs on the front cylinder.

The plugs on the rear cylinder were much easier to get at...

Fingers were crossed starting her as she is a bit more fussy than the jap bikes(everything needs to be spot on).
    Fired first touch!Phew!!!!!
    All back together again!!!!!

I removed the baffle on my scorpion can a while back and replaced it - way too loud. Coming to work on Monday noticed bike sounded rough/louder. The baffle has come loose and was sticking out! 3 little bolts/screws are gone. Probably have come loose from vibration.

Somebody mentioned self tap screws to keep it in place. Any idea where id get replacement little screws or will any generic be of use?

Today I swapped out the old carbon side panels for new twill carbon side panels.
The new panels match up with the rest of the carbon just nicely now.:)

Robert in All Metal Fastners in Finglas will sort you out with some stainless baffle nuts and bolts, just throw a few coins in the collection bucket on the counter and he will look after you.;)

If not AMF then go to Tucks Fastners and they will sort you out.:)

Today I put the Tech Spec snake skin tank grips on,(thanks to Goodlad for the heads up on them) and also glued on the carbon tank sliders, have to leave the bike sitting for 24 hours for the silicone to cure.

Dont think theres much more to do to the R1 at this stage.:o

Now for the 996,let the fun begin.:pac::D

Stuck on some shorty brake and clutch levers.

I only use two fingers for braking so thats perfect, using two for the clutch will take some getting used to though!

    Loving the colour too :D
